But the night wasn’t completely by the books. Here’s a look at some of the award show’s biggest curveballs:
Surprise: “This Is Us” (NBC)
Admittedly, this race was a tough one to call: Good arguments could have been made for any of the nominees. But “Stranger Things” was a surprise win last year, and the SAG did it again, crowning the NBC tearjerker. The last time a broadcast series took home the trophy was in 2006 for ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Snub: “Stranger Things” (Netflix)
Speaking of “Stranger Things,” the Netflix series went 0-for-4 tonight. Nothing for David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, the stunt team, or the cast — depriving viewers of yet another rousing speech from Harbour and Winona Ryder’s facial
And this year, many of the nominated casts wore glitzy, color-coordinated looks that are so glamorous and so different from their on-screen costumes that we broke down each and every standout style, below.

The This Is Us cast clearly sent out a Pearson family group text before they hit the carpet,
“Heathers” is back and nastier than ever. A red-band trailer has dropped for Paramount Network’s reboot of the beloved 1988 dark comedy, and the mean clique at the center of the story looks decidedly different than the original Heathers, all of whom were cis-gender, thin white girls. “Fat kids can be popular,” and Asians too, we’re told in the spot. “Gays and Jews are over,” but genderqueer is in. Not everything has changed: lunch-time polls are still a thing, and Veronica’s diary remains a vital part of the story.
“I wish Heather Chandler (Melanie Field) would just die so that I can finally be free,” says Veronica (Grace Victoria Cox). As is the case in the film, the show sees Veronica plotting the murder of her frenemy alongside her new boyfriend, J.D. (James Scully), who is described as a “domestic terrorist” and “teenage Charles Manson.”
“The Handmaid’s Tale” boasts 10 cast members on the voting ballot, ahead of only Netflix’s “The Crown” at five. Comparatively, the other nominated dramas each feature more than a dozen actors: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” at 30, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” at 17 and NBC’s “This Is Us” at 13. In recent years “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey” always had the biggest casts, with “Downton” beating the HBO fantasy series in 2014 and 2015.
The original film focused on Veronica (Winona Ryder) and her rebel boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater), dealing with the social order in high school. The update features a new set of popular-yet-evil Heathers. Only this time around the outcasts have become the high school royalty. This definitely makes for an interesting twist.
Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk) will be portrayed by Jasmine Mathews; Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty in the film) is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath (Brendan Scannell); and Heather Chandler (originally
