‘Glee’s’ Chris Colfer does double duty on TV

9 February 2011 4:50 PM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

By Greg Hernandez

HollywoodNews.com: It was a wonderful double dose of the talented Chris Colfer on television last night!

First, the Golden Globe Award winning actor had a sweet storyline as part of the Valentine’s Day episode of ‘Glee’ then he was a guest on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman.’

On ‘Glee,’ Kurt remains smitten with his Dalton Academy classmate Blaine (Darren Criss) and thinks Blaine is planning a big Valentine’s Day surprise for him. But it turns out that Blaine is crushing on a guy who works at The Gap!

I love the scene where Kurt seeks solace from Mercedes and Rachel saying: “This is absolutely devastating.”

Then the more he talks about why he thought Blaine was into him he has a epiphany: “Oh my God, I made up the whole thing in my head, didn’t I?”

Well what gay guy hasn’t done that! »

Titanic front of ship scene voted most romantic movie moment

8 February 2011 2:34 AM, PST | Bloginity | See recent Bloginity news »

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's front of ship scene in 'Titanic' has been voted the most romantic movie moment of all time. 'Titanic's front of ship scene has been voted the most romantic movie moment of all time. The Oscar-winning film - which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet - topped a poll by Italian liqueur Disaronno to find the most popular love scene, in which their characters Jack and Rose go to the front of the doomed cruise-liner and pretend to fly. The heart-warming moment beat Andrew Lincoln declaring his love for Keira Knightly through signs in 'Love Actually' while Demi Moore and the late Patrick Swayze's sexy clay turning came third. Patrick - who passed away in September 2009 from pancreatic cancer - made the list again as his famous line, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner", from 'Dirty Dancing' was sixth, »

Sleepless In Seattle Review Pt. 2 d: Nora Ephron

6 February 2011 1:40 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Meg Ryan in Nora Ephron's Sleepless in Seattle Sleepless In Seattle Review Part I Inspired by An Affair to Remember, Nora Ephron and her fellow co-writers have our hero and heroine brought together by fate — in the form of your typical movie brat — at the top of the Empire State Building. In that Cary Grant-Deborah Kerr vehicle, the meeting ends up never taking place — a car interferes with Kerr's dash to "the closest place to heaven on Earth." (Though that would actually have been the top of Mt. Everest.) By the time Sleepless in Seattle reached its climax, I was ardently hoping for a meteor hit that would send Annie directly to heaven itself; but realistically speaking, no one in their right mind could believe from the get-go that anything would prevent Baltimore's Annie from having a tête à tête with Seattle's Sleepless. Sleepless In Seattle Review – Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan

6 February 2011 1:35 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Sleepless In Seattle (1993) Direction: Nora Ephron Screenplay: Nora Ephron, David S. Ward, Jeff Arch, and Delia Ephron (uncredited); from an original story by Jeff Arch Cast: Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan, Bill Pullman, Ross Malinger, Rosie O'Donnell, Gaby Hoffman, Victor Garber, Rita Wilson, David Hyde Pierce, Rob Reiner Oscar Movies Meg Ryan, Ross Malinger, Tom Hanks, Sleepless in Seattle In Krzysztof Kieslowski's Red, the last installment of his "Three Colors" trilogy, the word "magic" is never bandied about. No need to. Magic is just about everywhere in that lyrical tale about love and fate. In Nora Ephron's Sleepless in Seattle, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, the word "magic" seems to crop up every other minute. Ephron and fellow screenwriters Jeff Arch, David S. Ward, and (an uncredited) Delia Ephron were apparently trying to create screen magic through self-hypnosis. If you say it often enough… »

New this Week: ‘The Roommate,’ ‘Sanctum’ and ‘Boys Don’t Cry (Bd)’

2 February 2011 6:00 AM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:

The RoommateMinka Kelly, Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet

SanctumRichard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Allison Cratchley

Movie of the Week

Sanctum

The Stars: Richard Roxburgh, Ioan Gruffudd, Allison Cratchley

The Plot: An underwater cave diving team experiences a life-threatening crisis during an expedition to the unexplored and least accessible cave system in the world.

The Buzz: This film looks stunning. I’m excited to see it in IMAX 3D. With a cast of relative unknowns (save Richard Roxburgh of Moulin Rouge) the star of this one looks to be cinematographer Jules O’Loughlin.

This is S.O.P. as far as Hollywood marketing is concerned, but I’ve always been annoyed when production credits are used to dupe the cinematically challenged populace. This film is produced by James Cameron, not directed. Direction credits go to Alister Grierson, a relatively untested director; Sanctum being only his second feature, »

For whom the bell tolls: Boxing on film

28 January 2011 6:03 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

There have been many great boxing movies over the years, but most of them are about white champs – and there aren't many of those in the real world

The ratio of good films about boxers to bad films about boxers is extraordinarily high. That may be because there is something inherently thrilling about the manly art, but it may also be because Hollywood doesn't make a movie about boxers every week, whereas it does make a movie about young men who treat women badly 52 times a year. It may also be because the great movies about boxers become lodged in the public's memory, while the bad ones (The Main Event, a woeful 1979 outing starring Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal immediately comes to mind) simply vapourise. It may also be because so many movies about boxers have been directed by talented directors (Martin Scorsese, John Huston, Michael Mann, Martin Ritt, Jim Sheridan, »

They have a lot of respect for each other." Gebhardt believes that Irwin, 41, will get through her breakup from John, 59, without a problem. John Mellencamp Yanks ‘Mellencamp’ from Wife Elaine Irwin! He Wants His Name Back!

21 January 2011 2:40 PM, PST | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Even though they were married for 18 years, John won’t let Elaine use ‘Mellencamp’ after the divorce!

Unkindest cut of all indeed: Elaine Irwin-Mellencamp, 41, who has two sons with the musician — Hud, 16 and Speck, 15 — will be asked to return to her maiden name after the divorce is completed. RadarOnline obtained the petition for dissolution of marriage filed by John Mellencamp in Indiana and article six clearly states, “wife should be restored her maiden name of ‘Irwin’.”

Looks like the 59-year-old doesn’t think his third wife deserves to keep her hyphenated last name.

It’s the latest insult added to injury for Irwin, who has seen Meg Ryan getting pretty cozy in NYC and in Martha’s Vineyard with John. The actress has been seeing Mellencamp for a few weeks now since his September separation according to People and things continue to simmer for Meg and Mellencamp.

Film Fail #7 – Five Film Star Interviews Gone Wrong

18 January 2011 11:32 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Its a well rehearsed tradition by now. The interviewer pretends that they are speaking to the most fascinating film-star in the world and the film-star laps up the praise whilst plugging their latest film. Nothing is too personal and the enthusiasm is easily faked.

This is the standard rule for most dull and formulaic film interviews although occasionally we get the rare treat when things go a little off script. The following list highlights five occasions where egos, lack of research and just general idiocy turn a regular interview into a cringe-worthy piece of car crash television.

5.) Interviewer Mistakes John Cusack For Kevin Spacey

You’re a film student whose about to interview John Cusack. What should your first line be? A down to earth joke? A standard bit of banter about travel? Gush that it’s such an honour to meet your favourite actor (probably a lie but most »

Source: Meg Ryan Enjoying Media Attention On Her Love Life

11 January 2011 9:15 AM, PST | VH1.com | See recent VH1.com news »

We always figured that most celebrities, save for the reality show types and the celebutante starlets, enjoy their privacy. That’s why it’s so hard to believe the report that Meg Ryan, who just revealed that  she’s dating John Mellencamp weeks after he announced his separation from Elaine Irwin, is reveling in this new attention. A source told PopEater “Meg couldn’t be happier,” a friend of the actress tells me. “Not only has she got a great new guy, she’s back in the headlines. It’s not easy going from being one of the highest paid actresses in the world to an anonymous New Yorker. Meg’s loving all this attention again.” We have to call bulls—t on this source. Ryan has famously tried to ignore the limelight of Hollywood, and has said in  the past “You figure out a way to walk around and not be noticed. »

In Proof of Life (2000), a kidnap thriller set in fictional South American country Tecala, Meg Ryan plays Alice Bowman, one of the least convincing hippies ever committed to film. On Alice, hippie seems like a passing trend rather than a lifestyle choice.

Meg Ryan’s costumes are a mix of sarong skirts with embroidery, cotton vests, tie-dyed t-shirts, big belts, linen shirts, waist cincher, leather jacket, waistcoat, sandals, even a matelot sweater. Add in a $300 hairdo with a generous application of lip gloss and Alice Bowman, all in all, looks pretty fresh considering her husband has been trapped in captivity, or quite possibly dead, for several months.

Being as Clothes on Film’s less than esteemed founder and editor (that’s me) is moving house this month, there will be less posts on the site than usual (sorry). I run Clothes on Film and write most of the posts, but not without the help of some select, extremely knowledgeable and talented contributors. Without them and you readers popping by regularly to enjoy the articles, this site would be absolutely nothing. A »
