'Color City' Goes "Woof, Woof, Woof!"

20 November 2008 11:45 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

I might be dating myself with this title, but I couldn't help it. (The Arsenio Hall Show, get it!?)

The Hollywood Reporter posts that Arsenio Hall, Craig Ferguson, and Rosie Perez are lending their voices to the upcoming animated feature, The Hero of Color City. This is the project that Magnolia picked up back in 2006, and that signed Christina Ricci in June of this year. And now we've got two talk show titans and the tough cop from Pineapple Express added to the mix of color.

The film focuses on crayons who try and save Color City from an "evil tyrant," whilst living between two worlds -- the magical city itself and the "real world" preschool where they work. Now, I could understand markers, but how exactly do these crayons get used and still live? If there's one thing I remember from my preschool days was that crayons got massacred »

Colourful Character For Christina Ricci

20 November 2008 12:11 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

We've waited so long for some more inanimate objects to come to life, ever since the Poddington Peas or the Shoe People. So imagine our joy when it was announced that Christina Ricci will be starring as Yellow, a waxy little colouring crayon in her next film. Yes, really. The Hero Of Color City is about a bunch of crayons who must fight an evil tyrrant who threatens to rid their city of its colour and joy. Directed by Becky Bristow, sometime director of animated TV show The Wild Thornberrys and an animator on Rugrats The Movie, it is produced by Exodus Film Group, behind this year's Igor - which co-starred one of the Color City voices, Arsenio Hall. Also joining the line-up are Rosie Perez (last seen on the big screen in Pineapple Express), and talkshow host Craig Ferguson. The Hero Of Color City looks set for a 2010 release, »

Rosie Perez, Arsenio Hall to voice 'Color City'

19 November 2008 2:00 PM, PST | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Animation company Exodus Film Group has made several new deals for its cartoon-crayon tale "The Hero of Color City."

The firm has pacted with New York book company Simon & Schuster for a publishing deal to complement the feature. It also has made a number of casting deals, signing on Rosie Perez, Craig Ferguson and Arsenio Hall to voice characters in the picture.

The S&S deal will encompass a group of books aimed at young children (roughly ages 2-7), with an emphasis on coloring books that play off themes from the movie.

Becky Bristow's film, which previously had signed on Christina Ricci to voice the lead, is an animated fable centering on a group of crayons that band together to stop a tyrant from robbing their world of color.

Perez most recently starred in "Pineapple Express," while Ferguson and Hall, known for late-night talk shows, have had roles in family-oriented movies, »

Ricci Stunned By Political Influence

19 November 2008 11:00 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Christina Ricci was stunned when she spoke to U.S. politicians as an activist for rape victims - because she never expected her celebrity status would get them to listen.

The 28-year-old became an activist for Tori Amos-founded organisation Rainn (The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) after the sexually-charged marketing campaign for her film Black Snake Moan launched in 2006.

But Ricci admits she was reluctant to speak up, fearing she would just embarrass herself.

She says, "When I was invited to speak to members of Congress I was like, 'Uh, are you sure? I might say something stupid.'

"To me, Washington D.C. always seemed like a place you could never get into. But it's surprisingly accessible. You can actually talk to the people who govern and write legislation - and they responded."

And Ricci has continued her fight, urging celebrities and civilians to make more of an effort by donating more than their cash.

She adds, "In the beginning a lot of my support was just financial - I think it's important that a certain percentage of everything you make goes to charity, any charity. But you should also give your time - you can pick your corner of the world and give it your time." »

The Mac Guy vs. Liam Neeson

8 November 2008 7:32 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Not like this is even up for a debate, but I'll ask you anyway. Who would win in a fight? Qui-Gon Jinn, or Oskar Schindler, or Jean Valjean, vs. the Mac guy. Sorry, Justin Long, but you don't stand a chance against Liam Neeson, even though you'll apparently go head to head with him in After Life. Long and Josh Charles (In Treatment) have both accepted roles in the movie, which already stars Christina Ricci as a woman trapped between life and death and Neeson as a funeral director who might be trying to bury her alive. The Hollywood Reporter says Long will play the half-dead woman's boyfriend, who becomes suspicious of the funeral director. Charles will fill in the typically thankless role of the friend. The movie will start filming, like, now-- shooting starts Tuesday in New York-- so Long and Charles have some arrangements to make. This movie »

Casting Bites: Josh Charles, Justin Long, and Nick Nolte

7 November 2008 3:03 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Josh Charles started out strong, but sure fizzled, didn't he? I mean, he started his career with Hairspray, before heading to the Dead Poets Society, Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, and soon after, the sexually dysfunctional Threesome. But now he's cameo guy, and there's a new one on the way.

The Hollywood Reporter posts that Charles and Justin Long are joining the Christina Ricci and Liam Neeson-starring After.Life. Long will play the boyfriend of a woman caught between life and death (Ricci), while Charles plays his friend. (Poor guy, relegated to token roles.) This is that long-in-gestation feature that once starred Kate Bosworth, and even had a poster released waaaay back in February of 2007. But it finally seems to be moving forward.

Meanwhile...

Four Leaf Tayback, also known as Nick Nolte, has grabbed a role in My Own Love Song, according to Variety. Pretty »

Cinematical Seven: Greatest Supporting Performances in Horror Films

28 October 2008 8:02 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

In researching this list, I made two realizations: most horror films don't bother with supporting casts; the supporters are often ghosts and monsters and supernatural forces (the other humans tend not to listen). And also, there are more great performances by women in horror films. Consider just the list of women who were nominated for -- or won -- Oscars for horror films: Patty McCormack, Janet Leigh, Ruth Gordon, Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Sigourney Weaver, Kathy Bates, Jodie Foster, Juliette Lewis, Toni Collette, etc. Perhaps women are more intuitively in touch with the supernatural. Either way, I think I came up with a pretty good list:

1. Maria Ouspenskaya in The Wolf Man (1941)

Her name's a mouthful, but once you learn to say it, you'll never forget it. She was born in 1876, which put her at about 65 when The Wolf Man was made. She was a theater actor, »

On DVD: "Six in Paris," "Arch of Triumph"

By Michael Atkinson

One of the loveliest freeform ideas to find patronage and popularity in the New Wavey 1960s was the omnibus film, a rarely cohesive but always tempting quasi-genre defined as a collection of exclusively commissioned short films. These projects usually began with a general theme but were always most interested in gathering the generation's coolest hotshot filmmakers and encouraging them to whack off and make their special kind of havoc, but in compressed form. The aesthetics of the genre are questionable -- never is the entirety of an omnibus very satisfying -- but its smash-up ranginess of conflicting styles and potpourri perspectives make the movies irresistible. (Favorites of any connoisseur would include 1962's "The Seven Deadly Sins," 1963's "RoGoPaG," and 1969's "Love and Anger," all of which feature the era's most promiscuous omnibus-er, Jean-Luc Godard.) They're still being made: the Korean New Wave collection "If You Were Me" (2003) is a knockout, »

Mariah, Patrick, Christina and More Get Artsy at Whitney Gala

21 October 2008 6:00 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Last night the stars got cultured at the Whitney Museum American Art Gala in NYC. A beautiful Christina Ricci and Emma Roberts stayed on trend in their dark and stormy dresses while Nick and Mariah were red carpet ready as usual. Becki Newton lightened things up a little in her busy pattern, but from the color palette across the board the darker months have hit Manhattan. Donatella Versace helped throw the party and had some man candy on her arm, the face of her line Patrick Dempsey, for the night. The theme of this year's gala was "Whitney — Past, Present and Future" but seeing the star studded red carpet the art wasn't the only exciting sight last night. To see more from the party including Jane Krakowski, Juliette Lewis, Katie Lee Joel and others just read more. Weekend Movie News Wrap Up: October 19, 2008

19 October 2008 9:33 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Sunday again and that means that it is time for the Weekend Movie News Wrap Up.

This week:

We see who is top of the box office; Kevin Smith ups his budget and goes into space; Brad Pitt goes on an Odyssey and plays an Unfair Game; Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci do Life and Ronin zooms to the small screen.

Box Office

Marky Mark Wahlberg is the box office champion with Max Payne. The film should manage about $20 million over the weekend giving 20th Century Fox their first solid hit in months.

Oliver Stone’s W bucked the political movie trend by making a solid bit of cash. Grossing around $12Mm for the weekend the film should be a modest hit. Considering the current political overkill going on in the press this is a considerable coup.

The Secret Life of Bees had a modest opening too, and should match »
