Warners' Di Bonaventura exits for production pact

4 September 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Just seven weeks after he was named to the newly created corporate position of president, worldwide production at Warner Bros., Lorenzo di Bonaventura is turning in his executive stripes and opting for a new life as a producer with a first-look deal at the studio. The unexpected move, announced late Tuesday afternoon, caught Warners insiders unaware and sent many of them reeling. For his first assignment, di Bonaventura will take a producing position on Constantin, an adaptation of the DC-Vertigo comic book Hellblazer, to which Keanu Reeves is currently attached to star. The surprise development grew out of discussions between di Bonaventura and Alan Horn, Warner Bros president and chief operating officer, who agreed Tuesday to allow di Bonaventura, a 13-year veteran of the studio's corporate ranks, to segue into a producing role. In the wake of di Bonaventura's departure, the executives who reported to him under the new structure announced in July will now report directly to Horn. They include Jeff Robinov, president of domestic production, Steve Papazian, president of physical production, and Dawn Taubin, president of domestic marketing. It is unclear -- and Warners would not comment on -- whether Robinov will also inherit di Bonaventura's position as head of worldwide production or whether another executive would step into that role. »
