Could an Austin Powers/ Dr. Evil musical and TV show be on the way?

23 minutes ago | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The 20th anniversary of the first Austin Powers movie is fast approaching (in 2017), and that movie’s director, Jay Roach, has been talking to Forbes about reviving the franchise. While there doesn’t seem to be any plans for anything specific to mark the anniversary, Austin Powers and his nemesis Dr. Evil may be revived is some other way.

Speaking with Forbes, filmmaker Roach said: “I am aware of [the anniversary] but I haven’t thought about it too much. I had thought that it was a long time since but didn’t realize that such a milestone was coming up so I should start thinking about it a bit harder. Now you mention it, it hits me that 20 years ago we were in the middle of shooting and editing my first feature film. It brings back a lot of loaded feelings.”

So if not for the anniversary, are there any plans »

Shrek 5 Script Is Finished, Will Eddie Murphy Return as Donkey?

16 September 2016 12:52 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Since the last Shrek movie, nearly a decade will have past by the time Shrek 5 hits theaters, and that's okay with everyone involved, from the filmmakers to the fans. Shrek Forever After felt a little tired, and it was clear that DreamWorks Animation needed to take a break from the adventures of this Ogre and his talking donkey. But the next sequel is starting to heat up, and it appears that the script for Shrek 5 is done.

Eddie Murphy has recently been making the press rounds for his upcoming dramatic turn in Mr. Church, and several sites asked the comedian whether or not he'd be returning as Donkey in Shrek 5. There had been some rumors that he was done with this animation franchise. But apparently that's not the case. Speaking with Cinema Blend, Murphy confined that the script for Shrek 5 is done, it's good, and it should be on screen by 2020 at the latest. »

Margot Robbie Smolders In First Look At Vaughn Stein’s Noir Pic Terminal

9 September 2016 8:08 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Now that Margot Robbie has carved out some downtime from Task Force X and the role of Harley Quinn – one that never fails to attract rampant fanfare across the four corners of the Internet – the Suicide Squad star can shift focus to more drama-oriented fare.

Before stepping onto the ice ring as the disgraced figure skater for Tonya Harding biopic I, Tonya, Robbie will soon headline Vaughn Stein’s noir thriller Terminal as Annie, a “dynamic” character that becomes the center of attention of two duelling hitmen.

Ramping up the noir sensibilities, The Hollywood Reporter has today lifted the lid on our first look at Robbie in the femme fatale-like role, staring intensely at the camera with cigarette in hand. Little is know in terms of plot, but THR does hint that Robbie’s Annie is more involved in the case at hand than initially thought. Could she been masking traits of a killer? »

Wayne's World 3 Could Happen Says Mike Myers

26 August 2016 5:04 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Are we about to get a Wayne's World revival? Arriving in 1992, the first Wayne's World movie was nothing short of a phenomenon. The character was a break out on Saturday Night Live and hit the big screen in a timely fashion to capture that zeitgeist. The sequel, which arrived just a year later in 1993, didn't fare so well, and there was a lot of turmoil around the set, with Mike Myers said to be feuding with both the director and his co-star Dana Carvey. After just two movies, the saga was short lived for many reasons. But now, it sounds like Wayne might be gearing up for another big screen adventure.

In the twenty-four years since Wayne's World hit theaters, Dana Carvey and Mike Myers have patched up their differences, and have even appeared together in character on SNL in the years since, including a very popular sketch they did »

Eight Terrible Casting Choices in Films

19 August 2016 9:46 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Casting is a hugely important part of the filmmaking process. Unfortunately, sometimes Hollywood gets it very wrong.  When the wrong person gets the part, it can spoil the whole movie. Here are eight instances where bad casting damaged a big movie.

Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel trilogy: This bit of bad casting not only ruined a film, it wrecked three films. While the Star Wars prequels had numerous problems, the worst was the portrayal of iconic villain Darth Vader—Aka Anakin Skywalker—as a sulky, petulant teenager. Christensen’s bland performance made the problem 10-times worse. How do you follow the voice of James Earl Jones with the whiny voice of Christensen? He also had no chemistry at all with his co-star and love-interest Natalie Portman, who played Queen Amidala.

Jack Black as Carl Denham in King Kong (2005): Jack Black didn’t know what movie he was in here. »

‘Bad Moms’ Producer Suzanne Todd: Why the Veteran Producer Likes Staying Outside the Box

Many in Hollywood pair Suzanne Todd with her younger sister and producing partner Jennifer, long known as Team Todd. They produced a raft of movies together, many at freewheeling New Line Cinema, including teen coming-of-age classic “Now and Then” and Mike Meyers’ Austin Powers franchise. They also put on the map Christopher Nolan (“Memento”) and Ben Younger (“Boiler Room”). And while they both produced Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” with Joe Roth at Disney, for its sequel “Through the Looking Glass,” Jennifer was busy running Pearl Street Films, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s production company, while Suzanne carried on with the “Alice” sequel. And so she went solo on “Bad Moms,” which Stx opened well this weekend.

While it can be argued that there are a great many areas of weakness within the Canadian film and television industry there are two areas where my beloved northern home are clear international leaders: Stories about incest and short form comedy. You want family dysfunction? We've got Lots of that. And sketch comedy? Yep, we got that, too. This is, after all, the land of Sctv and The Kids In The Hall. We are the land that gave America John Candy and Rick Moranis and Martin Short and Catherine O'Hara and Mike Myers and Jim Carrey and Andrea Martin and Samantha Bee and literally a host of others.
