Movies Forgotten In Time: I Come In Peace

25 December 2009 2:36 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Five years after his now legendary performance as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, Dolph Lundgren was enjoying considerable success having starred in a trio of films that include Red Scorpion, (the original) The Punisher and as popular toy figure He-Man in Masters of the Universe. The films ranged from okay to just plain awful, but Lundgren had an onscreen presence that was more than just his six foot five frame. The guy had personality and for a native of Stockholm, Sweden, he could easily adopt an American accent. The nineties saw Lundgren in a string of action films that included Showdown in Little Tokyo with the late Brandon Lee, Universal Soldier with Jean-Claude Van Damme and the Keanu Reeves vehicle Johnny Mnemonic which to this day remains Ludgren's last film that had an American theatrical release. By the close of the decade Lundgren's films were only released straight to video sin the U. »

12 Action Movies Set During Christmas Season

24 December 2009 11:08 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Christmas is supposed to be a time of giving, peace and good will towards men. But in Hollywood, its also a time for death, destruction and nearly every form of mayhem.  Throughout the 80's 90's and (soon to be history) 00's more and more action films seem to take place during “the most wonderful time of the year”. Whether it be a heist, monster invasion or assault by pirates, so much onscreen action occurs on this jolly day that it's a miracle ole Saint Nick isn't killed in the crossfire. Here are just a few action films where Christmas is actually the last thing on the minds of characters fighting for their lives.Batman Returns (1992) Set during the Christmas season where a tree lighting ceremony in Gotham City serves as a battleground for the struggle between Batman (Michael Keaton), The Penguin (Danny DeVito) and Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer). Expendables Raw Footage Scene

22 December 2009 10:56 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Remember this image that was released a while back of Sylvester Stallone standing over those dead bodies wielding a couple of pistols from his new movie, The Expendables? Well, AICN have stumbled across some new raw footage that I think leads up to that photo.

AICN point it the fact that you have to remember this clip has had no other effects added to it, it is simply one shot from a crane camera and therefore don’t be surprised when it looks a bit naff!

The Expendables is a clash of the 80s & 90s hard men and has a cast which, as well as Stallone includes Anold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li and flying the flag for the girls, Charisma Carpenter and now (I still can’t believe it), the late Brittany Murphy. It’s out summer 2010 and we are looking forward to »

Sin City actress Brittany Murphy dies at age 32

21 December 2009 1:12 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy has died at the age of 32 after going into cardiac arrest, it's been confirmed.

Among her many roles, Murphy played sex-siren barmaid Shellie in 2005's Sin City, adapted from a graphic novel by Frank Miller. It also starred Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen and Jessica Alba.

News of Murphy's death emerged following an emergency call earlier today from the Los Angeles home where she lived with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, whom she wed in 2007.

Murphy, who also starred in Clueless and 8 Mile, was said to have been found slumped unconscious in the shower.

She had reportedly suffered cardiac arrest, meaning her heart had suddenly stopped functioning. Medics failed to revive her and she was taken to Cedar-Sinai Medical Centre where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The actress was recently reported to have been fired from the Puerto Rico film set of thriller The Caller for 'difficult' behaviour, »

Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams

Director: Jay Roach

Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.

Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".

Dolph Lundren appointed ambassador to Marbella because he's famous and lives there

4 December 2009 7:03 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

Somehow we missed this news: Dolph Lundgren is now the official ambassador for Marbella.

We know what you're thinking. A) Dolph who? B) Why? And C) Where's Marbella?

Marbella is a beach resort city in Andalusia in Spain.

And Dolph is infamous for his role as Russian boxer Ivan Drago in Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky IV." And for uttering the immortal line, "I win for me. Me!"

Oh, and he also used to date Sylvester Stallone's former Viking Woman girlfriend, Brigette Nielsen.

Which is ironic since he's starring in the new mercenary movie, "The Expendables" again with Stallone, as well as Steve Austin, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eric Roberts, Bruce Willis, and Brittany Murphy. Read about the production .

And watch the trailer above. The film is due out in August 2010. Dolph appears towards the end. Honest.

Dolph's also reportedly in talks with the producers of "Conan" about a role in the remake. »

Blu-Ray Review: Rocky Balboa Fights His Way to ‘Undisputed Collection’

29 November 2009 2:01 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – There are very few characters as iconic as Rocky Balboa. A few images, sound bites, or even just a few notes of a song and audiences of the right age are transported back to the first time they saw the Best Picture-winning “Rocky,” the film that made Sylvester Stallone a star over three decades ago. That beloved sports film and the five sequels that followed have been collected on Blu-Ray for the first time in “Rocky: The Undisputed Collection”.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0

The original “Rocky” looks a little more dated with each passing year, but the spirit of the film is still effective. Watching it again for the first time in years, I was struck by how many films that followed it have copied the basic beats and tone of the film. Stallone’s smartest move with “Rocky” was keeping it simple; making it a story to which everyone could relate. »

This Week in Trailers: 'Toy Story 3,' 'Greenberg,' 'Universal Soldier: Regeneration'

29 November 2009 3:58 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

I'm one of those people who would be fine with a new Toy Story trailer every week. It doesn't work like that, of course, but I have such great memories of the first two movies and such high hopes for the third, that the more stuff I see, the better. We did get a new international trailer over the past few days, so that helps soften the blow that we have to wait until June to see the threequel.

There was also our first look at the latest Noah Baumbach film, Greenberg with Ben Stiller, which should in no uncertain terms not be confused with our first look at Universal Soldier: Regeneration with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. It's a simple mistake to make, I realize, but Greenberg is the one without the supersoldiers.

On with the trailers:

Jean-Claude Van Damme Video Extravaganza! New Trailers for "Universal Soldier Regeneration" and "The Eagle Path"

28 November 2009 7:45 AM, PST | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Last year, Jean-Claude Van Damme surprised everyone with the film "Jcvd." It was a great movie and the action star served as the heart of the flick.

Now, Van Damme returns with not one but two new action films. One, has the actor embracing his Luc Deveraux character again in the "Universal Soldier" franchise, and the other, Van Damme returns to the director's chair in "The Eagle Path."

First, let's take a look at the fifth installment of the "Universal Soldier" franchise called "Universal Soldier Regeneration." This one's directed by John Hyams and stars Van Damme and Dolpg Lungren (!) yeah!

"Universal Soldier Regeneration" is a direct-to-video release (tsk, tsk) and will arrive February 2nd of 2010.

Now here's "The Eagle Path." The last time Van Damme directed a film was 1996's "The Quest." This time, not only did the actor helm the project, he also wrote it! Interesting trivia y'all, did »

'Funny People' Takes The Stage, Tom Hanks Finds His 'Demons' And More, In The DVD Report For Nov. 24

24 November 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

It's hard to believe, but Judd Apatow, the mega-filmmaker who has changed the face of Hollywood comedy, has only directed three films. Having made his mark in television ("Freaks & Geeks," "Larry Sanders") and some screenwriting, Apatow finally exploded into the theatrical world on the back of 2005's "The 40 Year Old Virgin." "Knocked Up" would follow in 2007, and then in 2009, "Funny People," a decidedly more mature comedy that straddled serious dramatic elements. Now arriving on DVD and Blu-ray, will the pic -- which stars Adam Sandler as a dying comedian who mentors younger upstart Seth Rogen -- finally grab a wider fanbase than it found in cinemas?

"Funny People" features a strong audio and video transfer, and comes in both theatrical and unrated versions. Extras are plentiful as well, with the two-disc edition featuring filmmaker commentary, on-set diaries, gag reels, deleted and extended scenes, featurettes on subjects like stand-up, vintage prank »

Dolph Lundgren, Star Of The Original 'Punisher,' Hasn't Seen The Recent Remakes

24 November 2009 12:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

From Splash Page: No matter how many times Marvel's Punisher films start over from scratch, Dolph Lundgren will always be the first-live action Frank Castle.

The iconic action star wrote, directed and headlined in his latest direct-to-dvd film "Command Performance" and returns to the big screen in 2010 for Sylvester Stallone's "The Expendables." As far as upcoming comic book films go, however, "Conan" is the only one that has his attention right now, and he said he hasn't been keeping up with the skull-shirted vigilante he first portrayed in 1989.

"No, I haven't seen any of [the new 'Punisher' movies]," Lundgren told MTV News. The Swedish-born actor has kept a tight schedule since he began directing his own movies like "The Mechanik" and "Diamond Dogs," so it's understandable that he might not be able to find the time.

Trailer for ‘Universal Soldier: Regeneration’ Hits the Web

24 November 2009 7:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

In the milieu of “better-than-they-have-a-right-to-be” action movies, I need to add 1992’s Universal Soldier. From the team that later brought us Stargate and Independence Day, Universal Soldier starred Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolpf Lundgren back when those names actually meant something at the box office.

Still, even with a mediocre script and some stilted acting, the movie actually managed to be pretty good and even more importantly, fun. Now, many years later and after at least one sequel already down, the very forgettable Universal Soldier: The Return, we now are going to get a third installment of the franchise, cleverly entitled Universal Soldier: Regeneration. And yes, we’ve got a trailer for you, so don’t worry.

This one goes direct to video this time but does feature returning stars Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. It also brings Ufc heavyweight champion Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski into the mix, which could prove interesting. »
