A photo posted by French Montana (@frenchmontana) on Jul 24, 2016 at 12:09am Pdt It's been quite an eventful month for Calvin Harris. Following a bunch of drama involving his ex-girlfriend, Taylor Swift, the DJ partied it up with Kim Kardashian at Jennifer Lopez's star-studded birthday bash in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Lucky for us, Khloé Kardashian's ex, rapper French Montana, was also there and took to Instagram to share a group photo from the night, which he simply captioned, "Happy bday @jlo." Kim, who was in town for a club appearance, also took to Snapchat and uploaded footage of herself singing along to Kanye West's now-infamous "Famous" song at the club. While it's unclear what these two talked about, sources told Us Weekly, "Kim and Calvin did talk and interact, smiling and chatting for awhile." Box Office: ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Heads for $60 Million Opening Weekend

22 July 2016 1:25 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paramount’s “Star Trek Beyond” is dominating the U.S. box office, blasting off for an impressive weekend of as much as $60 million at 3,928 locations, early estimates showed Friday.

It’s a solid start for the 13th film in the durable franchise, following a summer that’s seen notably disappointing performances from several sequels.

That negative trend appears to be dragging down Fox’s animated comedy “Ice Age: Collision Course,” which looks to under-perform in the $22 million range at 3,992 venues. The fifth “Ice Age” movie may wind up trailing the third weekend of “Secret Life of Pets” and the second weekend of “Ghostbusters” in a battle for second place.

New Line’s low-cost horror-thriller “Lights Out” is overperforming with initial estimates showing a debut between $15 million and $20 million at 2,818 sites.

Star Trek Beyond,” the third film in the rebooted sci-fi series, opens Friday at 3,928 sites and appears to be performing in line with projections. »

Ice Age: Collision Course Review

22 July 2016 11:49 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Ice Age: Collision Course is apocalyptic in the most literal sense, with the fuzzy, wooly heroes of the now 14-year-old franchise fighting off extinction by diverting a glowing meteor that threatens to wipe out every living creature on earth. When it comes to kids movies, this animated junkpile is bizarrely, awkwardly morbid: one of the promotional posters reads “kiss your ice goodbye” in big letters, and almost every joke, plot development and idea the movie flings at you is as off-putting, if not moreso.

It’s a genuine wonder how this fifth installment managed to find its way onto the big screen when it’s clearly meant to go the way of the dinosaurs. (And by “the dinosaurs” I mean those baby dinos from the Land Before Time, a franchise that had enough sense to go the direct-to-video route from the second installment on.) The series’ charm has been worn down for years, »

Ice Age: Collision Course Review

22 July 2016 11:37 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Ice Age: Collision Course Could Have Been Meatier But Instead It Crashes HardIt’s time to put this animated series on the extinct species list.

Five movies in, the Ice Age franchise has clearly run out of ideas. The latest installment, Ice Age: Collision Course, actually recycles a whole sequence formerly released as a separate short film titled Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe, which played ahead of last fall’s The Peanuts Movie. That same sequence was then reused as a teaser trailer for the new Ice Age sequel back in December.

Now, following some Cosmos-parodying voiceover from Neil deGrasse Tyson, the outer-space-set sequence opens the new feature, and the rehashing is a terrible way to start off. For adult fans of the animated series, anyway. Small children will likely appreciate the familiar beginning, just as they appreciate watching the other four Ice Age movies over and over and over.

'Ice Age: Collision Course' Review: Thaw and Order

22 July 2016 10:47 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

What's the use of getting all pissy about a kiddie cartoon? Watch Ice Age: Collison Course and see how you feel. The fifth entry in the Ice Age series is a loud, lazy, laugh-starved cash grab that cynically exploits its target audience (I use the term advisedly) by serving them scraps and calling it yummy. Even two-year-olds can see through the hustle.

You can't blame the animators, who do what they can to spark the visuals. But screenwriters Michael Wilson, Michael Berg and Yoni Brenner are running on less than empty. »

Box Office: ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Blasts Off With $5.5 Million on Thursday

22 July 2016 7:57 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paramount’s “Star Trek Beyond” has launched impressively with $5.5 million in Thursday night preview showings at 3,100 U.S. locations.

New Line’s horror-thriller “Lights Out” debuted decently with $1.8 million on Thursday night and Fox’s animated comedy “Ice Age: Collision Course” opened with $850,000 from 2,858 locations.

About 20% of the “Star Trek Beyond” grosses came from 387 Imax screens, where it grossed $1.1 million. Paramount noted the Thursday night preview number is comparable to “Spectre,” which opened with $5.3 million in November and went on to post a $70.4 million opening weekend.

Star Trek Beyond,” the third film in the rebooted sci-fi series, opens Friday at 3,928 sites and is expected to dominate weekend moviegoing with a solid $55 million, with some analysts projecting it could hit $60 million. That’s down from the $70.2 million launch of 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” and the $75.2 million bow of 2009’s “Star Trek” — both directed by J.J. Abrams.

Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious 6”) directs the new film, »

Film Review: Ice Age: Collsion Course

21 July 2016 10:21 PM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

If you’ve ever pondered why the world exists, Ice Age: Collision Course offers a theory—Scrat, the franchise staple saber-toothed squirrel unleashed a sequence of cosmic ping-pong while on his endless hunt for an acorn. But if you’ve ever wondered why the Ice Age series endures, well…I’m afraid I can’t help you with that one.

There has been an unwritten truce between animation studios and parents since at least the last glacial period: the shops make entertaining cartoons with subtle, smart messages for adults, and the grownups bring the kiddies to the theater. Ice Age seems determined to upset the natural order. I suppose kids old enough to understand them may be amused by the parade of poop and butt jokes. But, more likely, those who understand scatology will be too old to care for the film’s mostly unfunny one-liners and clownish physical humor. »
