Crowd-Pleasing Hits Pepper Walk of Fame Honoree Brett Ratner’s Resume

19 January 2017 10:00 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Brett Ratner’s rise through the directorial ranks as a helmer of consistent studio hits was swift and immediate. A veteran of the music-video world, his feature debut, “Money Talks,” became a low-budget success in late summer 1997, and would cement his strong relationship with actor-comedian Chris Tucker.

Chris helped me get my job on ‘Money Talks,’ ” Ratner says. “When the original director left the project, Chris apparently said to the producers that he knew this ‘cool white boy named Brett Ratner’ and that’s how it happened. I knew I could work with Chris and that it would be a lot of fun. ‘Money Talks’ made sense because I had come out of music videos, and it fit with what I had learned. It happened very fast. I was 26 when I got ‘Money Talks,’ and I’d done over 100 music videos, but back then, you had to do commercials and »

Another Trailer for Autobahn Action Film 'Collide' with Nicholas Hoult

18 January 2017 7:16 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"We've all got our reasons to crazy, reckless things in life..." Open Road Films has debuted another new trailer for the action thriller Collide, starring superstar actors Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones. This film was supposed to be released last August (see the first trailer here), but after generating pretty much no buzz they delayed it until this February. I'm still not interested, and this still looks as generic and bland as it did before, even with a great cast. Besides Hoult and Jones, this also stars Anthony Hopkins (as a mob boss) and Ben Kingsley (looking wacko), plus Nadia Hilker and Clemens Schick. The story is about an American backpacker caught up in a drug smuggling ring while trying to pull off a heist, taking him "on the run from his employers across Munich's high-speed Autobahn." Of course it's all about the action. Enjoy. Here's the newest trailer (+ international »

Nicholas Hoult & Felicity Jones Drive For Love In New Trailer For ‘Collide’

18 January 2017 1:23 PM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Geez, Open Road are really kicking off 2017 by getting their garbage out of the way. Last weekend they opened the Jamie Foxx vehicle “Sleepless” without screening it for press, and watched it tank hard over the holiday weekend. And next month comes the frequently delayed “Collide,” and I also won’t be surprised if it also opens without being shown to critics.

Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, a zany Ben Kingsley, and Anthony Hopkins, all collect paydays for the the Eran Creevy (“Welcome To The Punch“) directed movie about a dude who has to go to some crazy lengths to protect his girlfriend from some very bad dudes.

'Beauty and the Beast' Star Emma Watson Explains Why She Chose Belle Over Cinderella

18 January 2017 12:00 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Emma Watson made her movie debut at the age of 11 in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and literally grew up on screen. But it wasn't until the series concluded in 2011 that we started to get a sense of her range as an actress, apart from her signature role as Hermione Granger. She acquitted herself quite well in My Week With Marilyn and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, capably handling key supporting roles. Watson really stood out in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, as a fame-obsessed young woman who happily breaks into the homes of celebrities to steal their material goods. Darren Aronofsky's Noah allowed her to showcase her dramatic abilities, such as in this scene opposite Anthony Hopkins. About four years ago, Watson was in very early talks to star...

The Best Of The Best: The Greatest Movie Actors and the roles that made them great

Author: Dave Roper

The prospective candidates for admission to MiB were hand-picked because they were the best of the best of the best. That’s a lot of superlatives. Eric Roberts and Chris Penn were two of the more unlikely members of a Tae Kwon Do team that took on Korea in The Best of the Best and across pretty much every athletic and artistic theatre of endeavour you can think of, debate rages as to who is the best of the best. Today we look at the greatest movie actors.

This new series of articles is not intended to lay such arguments to rest. Instead it will hopefully prompt some discussion and (polite) debate as we consider, within certain film-making disciplines, who might be considered to be the best and what is their best work. Highly subjective, of course, but that is whence springs healthy debate. We’ll get to actresses, »

Tom Hiddleston teases Doctor Strange’s role in Thor: Ragnarok

We recently got a new synopsis and behind the scenes image for the upcoming Marvel sequel Thor: Ragnarok, and now Tom Hiddleston has spoken out regarding news that Doctor Strange will be making an appearance in the film.

Speaking to MTV, Loki himself was playing pretty coy with major details, but Hiddleston did provide his general thoughts about the state of play.

Doctor Strange has very intensely cerebral, time-bending powers,” said Hiddleston. “At the end of Thor: The Dark World, Loki’s on the throne. What happened to Odin? So maybe Doctor Strange has to help out with that particular conundrum…”

So perhaps a clashing of minds between Loki and Strange could be on the cards – a meeting that is sure to rally excitement. We will have to wait for more details of course but Flickering Myth will be sure to keep you updated when future news drops.

A Brief History of Superhero Movies at Awards Shows

As we near the Golden Globes on Sunday, there’s a distinct possibility that Deadpool could change the way awards show season has historically treated comic book movies by walking away with a best musical or comedy Globe.

Comic book movies, despite becoming one of the most dependable genres at the box office over the past decade, haven’t fared as well in the scrum of early-year awards shows. But it’s not all bad! While quite a lot of superhero movies have been nominated for the “technical” awards — makeup, sound, visual effects, art direction, etc — they tend not to »

Optimus Goes Evil in First Transformers: The Last Knight TV Spot

7 January 2017 12:54 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The first Transformers: The Last Knight TV spot is just 14 seconds in length, but it sets up the premise of this latest sequel succinctly. Optimus Prime has gone rogue. He's angry. And not above killing his own. The latest video from the Paramount sequel asks fans to choose a side. That might not be so hard after witnessing Optimus kill his longtime friend and comrade in the Autobots army Bumblebee, in what is one of the most shocking franchise twists to date.

Paramount released the first trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight at the end of 2016. And its final scene, where Optimus Prime tries to kill Bumblebee, had everyone in awe. While there are theories as to why this is happening, we won't have an official answer until the movie hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
