Rated: Savages (2012)

30 December 2012 3:12 PM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Quentin Tarantino’s films always seem to find the perfect balance between thoughtful story and thoughtless violence. It’s a formula which few other-- if any-- filmmakers have gotten right. Next up in the batter’s box is Oliver Stone and his new movie Savages

Oliver Stone films haven’t found much love lately. Aside from 2006’s World Trade Center, you have to go back to 1995’s Nixon to find a Stone movie that resonated well with critics. In my opinion, you have to go back to 1987’s Wall Street to find an Oliver Stone movie that resonated well with audiences. There’s no doubt that the man is skilled at making movies, but he seems to have lost whatever it was that allowed him to make good movies long ago.

The end result of his latest film, Savages, is more of the same. However, this film’s largest faults »

Ewan McGregor, Stella McCartney Awarded Order of the British Empire

29 December 2012 12:29 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Let the OBE-Wan Kenobi puns commence! Ewan McGregor has made Queen Elizabeth II's year-end list of Order of the British Empire (OBE) honorees, along with red-carpet favorite designer Stella McCartney. McGregor received his recognition for both his acting and his charity work. "I'm delighted and touched to be on the New Year's Honours List," he told the U.K.'s Mirror. The award caps a big year for McCartney, who last month was named Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Her work's popularity with such celebs as Salma Hayek, Alicia Keys and Kate Bosworth was likely a factor in both that honor and her OBE—and her sleek, stylish Team Gb Olympic uniforms probably »

Top Ten Most Disappointing Movies of 2012

28 December 2012 9:04 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Listing the best films of any year comes down to a matter of ordering -- Which film will I say was the absolute best? Listing the worst films of a particular year comes down to being honest with yourself -- Did I dislike it enough to call it one of the worst? However, when it comes to disappointments it's a different story. As a movie critic, maybe it's different for me. People tend to believe critics should walk into every movie without anticipation or excitement. Then, if that perception is held up, those that disagree with your opinion will either say "Yeah, but you didn't want to see it anyway!" or "You were always going to like that film." I do my best to let my opinion be known before seeing most films (running a blog of daily opinions helps). I do my best to avoid expectations (not watching trailers »

Comedy movie Here Comes the Boom takes one part of the story of Warrior and injects the kind of laughs Kevin James provides.

James plays 42-year-old high-school biology teacher and former college wrestler Scott Voss. When budget cuts threaten to cancel some of the school’s programs, including laying off the music teacher (Henry Winkler), Voss decides to raise money by fighting in mixed martial arts bouts. Naturally, everyone thinks he’s crazy, especially the school nurse (Salma Hayek). But we’ve got a feeling he’ll end up inspiring people.

Some of the creative forces behind Ugly Betty are reteaming for another ABC dramedy. Deadline reports that Salma Hayek and Silvio Horta are working on a show called Bastards, about a Cuban-American family who's shocked to discover that the dad fathered a child with the family maid many years ago. There better not be any snakes at this Video Game Awards show.

New Smash show runner Josh Safran tells EW that viewers can expect fewer random musical numbers, like the bowling alley performance and the Bollywood dream sequence, though there still could be dream sequences, just ones that aren't so glaringly out of place.

Silvio Horta and Salma Hayek are teaming up again, six years after the two worked to bring Ugly Betty to ABC. According to Deadline, the two are working on Bastards, a drama about a "colorful" (and I'm guessing wealthy) Cuban-American family who learns that there's a bastard relative out there, the first revelation of many secrets within the family.

The fifth season of Leverage — currently TNT's longest-running show airing new episodes — will air its finale on Christmas Day, and with the prospect of a sixth season still uncertain, series producer Dean Devlin wrote an open »

Completing the A-list team behind the show is producer Mark Gordon, who will also executive produce. Written by Horta, Bastards centers on a colorful Cuban-American family who have their lives turned upside down when it’s revealed that the family patriarch had a child with the family maid over 25 years ago. Now his wife will do anything to protect her children’s inheritance and prevent her family’s deep dark secrets from ever seeing the light of day. Bastards originated with an idea by Hayek. Salma Hayek says motherhood is a challenge. The 'Savages' actress has a five-year-old daughter Valentina with husband Francois-Henri Pinault and while she loves being a mother, Salma, 46, admits it can be difficult. Because when you believe that you already know how to handle them, they become different. They change and evolve constantly but still depend on you. Anne Hathaway's shame: She worries about wanting to be thinner?

5 December 2012 7:59 AM, PST | Pop2it | See recent Pop2it news »

There's a pressure in Hollywood for women to be thin. This isn't any secret, nor is it a surprise. But with so many actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and Salma Hayek standing up for their curves, it's especially upsetting to find out someone you adore -- and someone who is already thin to begin with -- is concerned they should be skinnier.

That's how we felt when we read Anne Hathaway's Glamour cover story, where she admitted her shame about feeling uncomfortable in her body, and wondering if she needs to be thinner. Hathaway has already dropped a shocking 25 pounds for her role in "Les Miserables," and apparently she still feels like she's not the right size.

"I still feel the stress over 'Am I thin enough? Am I too thin? Is my body the right shape?'" she says. "There's an obsessive quality to it that I thought I »
