Child Actress Says Mel Gibson Often Screamed and Made Her Cry on The Man Without a Face Set

56 minutes ago | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Gaby Hoffmann was only 11 years old when she worked with Mel Gibson on his directorial debut, "The Man Without a Face," back in 1993. Now that the actress is 31 years old, she decided to open up about her experiences working with Gibson. "[Gibson] screamed at me. Oh, God, he really screamed at me. He just started cursing and screaming at me. I think I was acting like a kid instead of a professional actor [and it set him off]," she revealed. When asked if he ever made her cry, Hoffmann replied: "Yeah. Oh, yeah." The actress went on to say that another famous director didn't enjoy working her. "I happened to work with a bunch of slightly difficult male directors when I was a kid," she explained. "I don't think John Hughes ('Uncle Buck' director) liked me." »

Gaby Hoffmann: Mel Gibson "Screamed at Me," Made Me Cry as a Kid

Mel Gibson's ire makes no exceptions for gender or age. Former child star Gaby Hoffmann was just 11 years old when she starred in Gibson's directorial debut, the 1993 drama The Man Without a Face. "I think I happened to work with sort of a bunch of slightly difficult male directors when I was a kid," she told HuffPo Live. Battle speeches

20 hours ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Bold, brave, inspiring – here are five of cinema's most rousing calls to arms. What would you add to the list?

This week's clip joint is from Peter Turner, who blogs at I Love The Film. Follow him on Twitter here.

They are bold, brave, inspiring and a bit terrifying; a great battle speech will send men to war at their leader's side. Here's some of the best examples of those eve of battle speeches bound to give you shivers

1. Braveheart

Forget Mel Gibson's dodgy Scottish accent and the thousands of parodies it spawned; William Wallace can still deliver one hell of a stirring speech. He may not be the seven foot tall giant that the men before him were expecting, but he is able to quickly turn them from frightened and fearful to ready to wage war with only the power of his promise of freedom.

Jumping Off Point: Stephen Goldblatt talks about the Lethal Weapon franchise

22 hours ago | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Trevor Hogg chats with Academy Award nominee Stephen Goldblatt about working with Richard Donner and lensing the first two Lethal Weapon movies...

Richard Donner, Danny Glover and Mel Gibson filming the original Lethal Weapon.Teaming with Richard Donner (Superman), Stephen Goldblatt (The Help) captured the cinematic antics of Mel Gibson (The Year of Living Dangerously) and Danny Glover (Places in the Heart) in Lethal Weapon (1987) and Lethal Weapon 2 (1989).  “Michael Riva [The Color Purple] who has unfortunately passed away was the designer of the two Lethal Weapons that I worked on, he made remarkable sets.  For example the big sequence in Lethal 2 where the iconic Hollywood house comes down the mountainside, all of the interiors were shot on a set even though the place was large enough to have accommodated us.  We built the set for various practical and safety reasons so we could tilt it and blow it up without anybody being killed. »

Dedicated website invites clergymen to utilise Superman myth as a mechanism for 'educating and uplifting' Christian audiences

Hollywood studio Warner Bros is targeting Christian audiences in the Us with a campaign for its superhero blockbuster Man of Steel that explicitly compares Superman to Jesus.

It has set up a special website touting a nine-page pamphlet entitled Jesus – the Original Superhero. Clergymen are encouraged to "educate and uplift your congregation" using the resource, which also highlights a useful clip from the movie.

"Superman's mythical origins are rooted in the timeless reality of a spiritual superhero who also lived a modest life until extraordinary times required a supernatural response," the notes read. "Jesus was sent by his Father to bear our burdens, to right our wrongs, »

Miley Cyrus Named Worst Celebrity Role Model By Parents

18 June 2013 11:48 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Miley Cyrus is Not a good role model, according to a new poll.

CouponCodes4u.com surveyed 2,407 parents from across the country -- all of which had at least one child over the age of 8 -- and discovered that 58 percent admit that they believe celebrities should not be used as examples of positive role models for their children.

Those same parents then voted on which famous figures were the worst role models -- and here's what they came up with:

1. Miley Cyrus (68%)

2. Lindsay Lohan (65%)

3. Kim Kardashian (63%)

Also making the list: Amanda Bynes, Farrah Abraham, Rihanna, Ke$ha, Kourtney Kardashian, Heidi Montag and Taylor Momsen.

When asked why they had chosen the female celebrities in question, the majority of parents cited the celebrity’s inability to make positive life choices, while others said the star had "no actual talent" or felt they were being "oversexualized" in the media.

The New Mel Gibson?

Jane Lynch has taken her comedic wit to the silver screen, television and even broadway, but yesterday she decided to bring the laughs somewhere else -- the world of Twitter -- when she retweeted this:

Jane Lynch (@janemarielynch) June 13, 2013

Judging by the looks of it, she would be perfect for a remake, but we wouldn't want her to quit "Glee" or "Annie" anytime soon just to give Mel Gibson a run for his money. »

Mad Max Impressions - E3 2013

13 June 2013 12:17 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

I love Avalanche Studios, so when they announced that they were making a Mad Max game my heart skipped a beat. I love Mad Max. He is the epitome of a badass. So it makes sense that this game is badass.

Two developers showed us gameplay set in the barren wasteland. The map is massive with multiple areas. When I asked how big it was in relation to Just Cause 2 (one of the biggest game worlds created by Avalance Studios), they told me it was too early to tell. But I have a feeling it'll at least be on par. One of the big things they talked about was your ability to create your own iconic car. One of the coolest things they showcased was how realistic the physics were when driving the car. Just Cause is not known for its realistic physics, actually quite the opposite. But Mad Max »

Close up: How super is Man of Steel?

13 June 2013 9:31 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Catch up with the last seven days in the world of film

The big story

It's big. Very big. It could be the biggest ever. Man of Steel is here, the latest Superman film, directed by Zack Snyder and with Christopher Nolan's sticky fingerprints all over it. The film itself burst fully formed into the media at 4am on Tuesday morning, when the worldwide media embargo was lifted. Our first look review handed it three big stars, an assessment repeated when the capo, Peter Bradshaw, gave his verdict.

Critics across the planet weighed in, with the word being on the positive side of mixed. That of course cut no ice with the big cheeses at Warner Bros, who have already commissioned a sequel; nor with our man in the stalls, Joe Queenan, who took the exact opposite view to WB. Give the superheroes a rest, was his basic message. »

The 13 Most Hilarious Google Movie Searches

Ah, Google. The greatest information superhighway, where most of us cruise on the daily, searching for intel only an absurdly complex, fast-acting algorithm can provide (unless you use Bing). We look for recipes, statistics, images, ourselves … pretty much anything and everything.

Google is a judgment-free zone, thus you can ask it whatever you'd like without fear or embarrassment. It's a mostly secret enterprise, as far as your personal search history is concerned. But ever since the search giant introduced the auto-fill drop-down function Google Instant, it's given us delicious insight into what others most commonly seek out around a subject.

Vulture made great use of this last week when it looked at what people most commonly asked about when it came to the Google love-fest "The Internship." It inspired us to look at a broader spectrum of Hollywood, plucking the very best/ most hilarious/ most absurd/ most depressing queries. Really, »

New Poster For Heaven's Gate Restoration

12 June 2013 6:28 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

One of those mythical Hollywood disasters, spoken of in the same hushed tones as Ishtar, Waterworld* and any of Mel Gibson's recent utterances, back in 1980 Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate was talked about much more than it was seen. But its restoration and impending re-release gives film fans the chance to judge whether posterity has been kinder to the epic Western than critics were at the time.Momentarily sidelining cast members Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, Isabelle Huppert and Jeff Bridges, the new poster zones in on the noise and fury of the old West. One of the Cimino's greatest assets, the photography of Vilmos Zsigmond, captures the dust of the wagon trail. It's all authentic too, as Cimino insisted that his cast learnt all the tasks demanded by the West. Two years after The Deer Hunter collected five Oscars and plenty of critical cachet, the fallout dealt a killer blow to Cimino's career. »

Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1980′s

11 June 2013 6:34 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

As all lovers of crime, suspense thriller, war, western, horror and science fiction films know, creating a truly great cinematic villain is no easy task.  When it happens, it’s virtually impossible to forget that character.

We’ll now take a look at the greatest film villains of the 1980’s.

The criteria for this article is the same as my previous article Cinema’s Greatest Villains: The 1970’s:  the villains must be from live-action films-no animated features-and must pose some type of direct or indirect lethal threat.  The villains can be either individuals or small groups that act as one unit.

The villains must be human or human in appearance, so no shape-shifting alien from John Carpenter’s amazing 1982 The Thing, no Aliens from James Cameron’s classic 1986 sequel and no Predator from John McTiernan’s beloved 1987 film of the same name.

Also, individuals that are the central protagonists/antiheroes »
