Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon's daughter Ava is proving she already has a talent for acting - she loves to do imitations. The American tot can speak with an English accent - and she's only two. Mother and daughter have just spent three months in London, where Reese has been filming The Importance Of Being Earnest alongside British stalwarts Dame Judi Dench, Colin Firth and Rupert Everett and the little girl picked up the accent while hanging around other toddlers on the set. »

Branagh Repelled By Nazi Holocaust Planner

17 May 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Kenneth Branagh's most difficult role was playing Adolf Hitler's "soulless" henchman Reinhard Heydrich in the new TV movie Conspiracy. Heydrich was the mastermind behind a 1942 meeting of top Nazis, which sealed the fate of the European Jewish population. This pivotal meeting is the subject of the new Home Box Office movie, which also stars Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci. And Branagh admits that Heydrich was a real challenge for him and ultimately one of his most disturbing acting experiences. He says, "Heydrich was unique for the ferocity and the cruelty of what he did, and the ruthless efficiency with which he did. In my preparation I thoroughly researched him, but I found that when it came to playing him, the inner man seemed invisible. Our scriptwriter, Loring Mandel, tried to do a psychological profile of Heydrich, looking for elements of behavior that may not appeal but perhaps lend to understanding his character, whether it be hatred of parents, a childhood trauma, some physical or mental disability, something that might illuminate his motives. Nothing seemed to make conventional psychological sense. His utter lack of compassion, lack of pity, revealed a man who has a buried conscience. There is something purely evil about him that is absolutely repellent and I'll be very happy not to wear his uniform to play him ever again." »

Colin Firth: I'm Not A Star

27 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Despite the massive success of his new movie Bridget Jones's Diary, actor Colin Firth insists he's not a star. The 40-year-old Brit, who stars alongside Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant in the hit film, has appeared in movies such as The English Patient and Shakespeare In Love, but is reluctant to deem himself a celebrity. He explains, "It's exhausting to have expectations all the time. And I talked myself out of that years ago. Such as they were. I think that when one starts out, I didn't have that sort of burning ambition to be famous. Partly because it just never entered my head it could be possible. Partly because it wasn't what interested me." »

Colin Firth Causes Problems For Bridget Jones Sequel

26 April 2001 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Bridget Jones author Helen Fielding has found a flaw in the adaptation of her sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason -- Colin Firth has to be in it twice. Firth is currently on the big screen playing Bridget's perfect man Mark Darcy in the blockbusting movie starring Renee Zellweger, but in the book's sequel, Firth actually appears as himself, which Fielding realizes could cause some confusion for audiences. She says, "I wrote the part of Mark Darcy for Colin Firth, and I do hope he will come back for a repeat of his lovely performance. If he does, he will simply have to don a large beard and handlebar mustache and play himself as well." Working Title, who produced the first Bridget Jones movie, scripted by Richard Curtis, will not disclose details of conversations of talent. »
