What Donald Trump’s Favourite Film Says About Him

13 November 2016 6:00 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

This week, Neil Calloway looks at the 45th Us President’s favourite movie…

If you haven’t been too busy watching and re-watching the international trailer for Rogue One, you may have noticed that there was a Us Presidential election this week, resulting in Donald Trump being elected to the White House.

During the election campaign, as happens, trivia about the candidates’ cultural tastes comes out during interviews and profiles, in an attempt to make those who are running for office seem more like normal people instead of narcissists who believe only they can save the world.

When asked about his favourite movie, Donald Trump didn’t say Razzie Award winning 1990 film Ghosts Can’t Do It, in which he had a cameo alongside Bo Derek, nor did he chose Home Alone 2: Lost In New York which he also appeared in. Neither did he name either of the Sex and the City films, »

Donald Trump won the Gop nomination but he isn’t winning any acting Oscars or Emmys anytime soon. “Ghosts Can’t Do It” (1989) “I think you like to make mischief,” Bo Derek tells his character. He responds with a smirk, “You noticed that.” “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (1992) Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) asks The Donald himself for directions to the hotel lobby. “Lady Boss” (1992) Trump charms two lunching ladies, one of whom is Joan Rivers. “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” (1994) The sight of the Gop presidential candidate and his then-wife Marla Maples cause Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro) to faint, while Will (Will Smith) sees it. »

What These Stranger Things Kids Lack in '80s Know-How, They Make Up for with Enthusiasm

31 August 2016 2:20 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo may play two characters living in the '80s on Stranger Things, but that doesn't mean they're well-versed in what was trending that era. People has an exclusive video of the two young stars testing their '80s knowledge (or lack thereof) with former Glee star Darren Criss, 29, and as expected, they don't ... know much. From Swatch watches and a crimping iron to Christie Brinkley and Bo Derek, the tweens have to take a few passes before they hit their stride during a game of Heads Up! Only natural, though, that the tides turn when the movie Beetlejuice comes up, »

Review: "The Legend Of Tarzan" (2016) Starring Alexander Skarsgard

12 July 2016 6:30 PM, PDT | Cinemaretro.com | See recent CinemaRetro news »

By John Lemay

For many years Tarzan was a staple of cinema—in fact from its very onset. The first Tarzan feature, Tarzan of the Apes, came out in 1918 and was followed by close to 50 other adaptations in the last century. His star started to fade in the late 1960s and there were no Tarzan features in the 1970s save for one. The 1980s somewhat provided his last gasp on the big screen with movies like the Bo Derek vehicle Tarzan, the Ape Man (1981) and- more impressively- the well-received Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.  The 1990s saw only 1998’s Tarzan and the Lost City and the 1999 Disney animated version. In fact, for all many “youngsters” know Tarzan may as well have originated with the Disney cartoon. For the first time in many years, we finally have a new big-budget live-action iteration of one of the screen »

Review: This 'Tarzan' may not be the king of the jungle, but he still swings

3 July 2016 12:30 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

When I’m planning to review a film, I try not to read any criticism of that film until after I’ve already organized my thoughts and written and published my own piece. I don’t like having anyone else’s take in my head as I’m writing, positive or negative. I don’t want to be put into a position where I’m either defending or attacking someone else’s opinion. I want my reviews to be my active thoughts, not a reactive response to something. In the case of The Legend Of Tarzan, though, they evidently gave the east coast a one-day head-start on the rest of us. Even though I was in the middle of my move into a new apartment on Wednesday, the day I was set to see the film, I saw enough headlines go by on social media to be able to tell »

Best of June Icymi

30 June 2016 6:00 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

Three of our current June mini-series are not quite over and spilling into July a teensy bit (Olivia de Havilland & Screen Tarzans & Halfway Mark) but it's that time again to look back on the month that was since the calendar stops for no one! One series that is over is our Fyc's for Emmy hopefuls including full tough to narrow down ballots for drama and comedy prizes. But all this off-current cinema distraction was fine because this summer movie season hasn't exactly been fire, if you know what I mean.

Box Office Preview: Can ‘The Purge: Election Year’ Topple Newbies ‘The Legend of Tarzan’ and Spielberg’s ‘The Bfg’?

30 June 2016 4:40 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Two costly new releases, “The Legend of Tarzan” (Warner Bros.) and “The Bgf” (Buena Vista), which reportedly cost over $300 million combined, look unlikely to dislodge Pixar/Disney’s high-flying “Finding Dory” from its third weekend in first place. And it is possible that a $10 million new entry, “The Purge: Election Year” (Universal), could edge out both as the best of the newbies.

But with “Dory” coming off a $73 million weekend, it should have little trouble topping $35 million for the three day total and over $40 million for the four. That should best all the first week entries, though their order remains a question mark.

Independence Day is one of three major holidays (Christmas and New Years Day along with it) that has no fixed weekday. That makes comparisons with other years more tricky. Last year July 4 fell on a Saturday (Friday was also a day off), with the result that the »

Swing, Tarzan, Swing! Ch.6: Two Horny Simpletons Walk Into the Jungle...

20 June 2016 5:57 PM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

As we approach the release of The Legend of Tarzan (2016) we're ogling past screen incarnations of the ape man...

While there's plentiful competition for "Worst" Tarzan movie in the first 90 years of ape-man cinema, there's no competition whatsoever in the annals of Official Tarzan movies for "Least Tarzany" of all Tarzan Movies. That dubious honor belongs to the infamous 1981 Bo Derek film. Despite sharing a name with the original Weismuller film, Tarzan is, for the first time in history, a 100% bonafide Supporting Character. That's reflected in the credits where Miles O'Keeffe is third-billed and has not a single line of dialogue and in the poster, in which he doesn't appear at all!

For younger readers explanation is definitely necessary this time. Some stars maintain name recognition after their heyday even if younger generations aren't exactly sure why they're so famous. Other names provoke blank stares. Bo Derek, still very much »

50 Years of Fame! Inside the Twists of Fate That Led to Jodie Foster's Wild Ride as a Child Star

12 May 2016 9:10 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Here's one from the what-if files: What if Jodie Foster's star-making turn never happened? The double Oscar winner, who's celebrating half a century in show business, almost never got the chance to make Taxi Driver, the movie that cemented her place in Hollywood history. Sure, we think of Foster as Hollywood royalty now. But the actress, whose fourth film as a director, Money Monster, comes out Friday, might just be yet another anonymous Yale grad if it weren't for fate. The 53-year-old first got into the business by a stroke of luck. Her mother, Evelyn "Brandy" Almond, toted 3-year-old »

This latest image comes courtesy of star Sophie Turner, who debuted Dazzler on her personal Twitter page. We're not sure who the model is playing Dazzler. Here's what the future Dark Phoenix had to say about this LP from the white jumpsuit wearing mutant.

Why Did Margot Robbie Punch Alexander Skarsgard During a 'Tarzan' Sex Scene?

30 March 2016 10:52 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

While The Legend of Tarzan is aiming for a PG-13 rating, this adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' popular novel series is serving up its sex scenes on the slightly violent side. As director David Yates explains it, he sees Jane, played by Margot Robbie, as a raw, wild creature who knows how to tame Lord Greystoke, played by Alexander Skarsg&#229rd. Especially when it comes to his bedside manner. The director actually had the actress slap, then punch Tarzan during one of their erotic love making scenes.

"They're doing this love scene together, and I said [to Robbie], 'Just slap Alex while you're making love, just kind of give him a punch. It was sort of an earthy, sensual moment of her enjoying sex with Alex, and the only bruise he picked up during the entire shoot was probably that punch from Margot. Which says a lot about her feistiness."
