Classics That Might Have Been: 25 Unmade Films (Part 1)

Unmade Classics: Part 1 of 2:

The film industry is a place for ideas but not all those ideas will reach the big screen. Many projects are announced each year and most of them will reach the pre-production stage but many will go no further. Only about half of the films announced will ever be completed. For various reasons, many intended movies will just fade away. Some may die during the script writing stage, while other will actually begin production before the whims of fortune cause the demise of the project. Here is Part One of a list of 25 tantalizing unmade films that could have been classics.

The Adventures of Flash Gordon: In the mid-1970s, George Lucas was enjoying critical success from his American Graffiti films. Being a life-long science fiction fan, he was planning to make a big-Budget film version of Flash Gordon. He had many ideas for »

Quentin Tarantino Wants to Collaborate with Johnny Depp, Michael Caine, and Meryl Streep

31 December 2012 8:40 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Quentin Tarantino's latest film Django Unchained is currently in theaters, and is on track to be the filmmaker's biggest hit at the box office. The director recently appeared on The Charlie Rose Show, where he revealed that he would one day love to work with actors such as Johnny Depp, Michael Caine, and Meryl Streep. Here's what he had to say about the possibility of working with Johnny Depp.

"We would love to work together. We've talked about it for years. Not that we get together and talk about it for years, but from time to time. We're obviously fans of each other. It just needs to be the right character. I just need to write the right character that I think Johnny would be the right guy to do it with. And if he agrees, then we'll do it. And then it'll be magical. I haven't written the »

15 Awesome Films That Ruled 2012

31 December 2012 6:13 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

In terms of volume and quality, 2012 has been an absolutely stunning year for film. I cannot remember the last time there were this many films produced and distributed by some of the best directors in the business, all within one year. Ridley Scott returned to the sci-fi genre with Prometheus; Quentin Tarantino recently returned in full idiosyncratic fashion with Django Unchained; Ang Lee has blown the majority of us away with his glorious celebration of life in Life of Pi; Steven Spielberg tackled presidential history with Lincoln; Christopher Nolan bought the curtain down on the Batman series with The Dark Knight Rises and Sam Mendes breathed new life into 007 with Skyfall. Picking this list is not an easy one. The beautiful thing about a top 15 list is that it accepts films that are not exactly Oscar worthy candidates but were entertaining none the less.

So, these are what I consider »

Quentin Tarantino Wants to Work with Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep & Michael Caine

30 December 2012 10:38 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Like many high profile filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino has developed a small stable of actors that frequently appear in his projects. Whether it’s because that actor is particularly suited to the director’s style of filmmaking or the director is just a fan of his or her work, a bond can be struck between the person in front of the camera and the one behind it.

In Tarantino’s case, that list of regular players includes such acclaimed talent as Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman and Harvey Keitel. However, in addition to those names, Tarantino has given established stars a chance to either revitalize their careers (John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, Pam Grier in Jackie Brown) or shake up their own filmography by dipping their toe in Tarantino’s playground (Brad Pitt in Inglourious Basterds, ...

Quentin Tarantino Says He & Johnny Depp Would Love To Work Together; His Wishlist Includes Meryl Streep & Michael Caine

30 December 2012 7:44 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Quentin Tarantino has a stable of familiar actors he works with, but for his latest film, "Django Unchained," the director switched it up, casting two actors he's never worked with before for prominent roles: Jamie Foxx as the lead and Leonardo DiCaprio as the villain (arguably there are lots of new faces including Kerry Washington, Don Johnson and more). Tarantino was on Charlie Rose recently and the talk show host asked about how he came to work with DiCaprio and then segued into another question: he was suprised that Tarantino's never worked with actor Johnny Depp, who like DiCaprio, is one of the biggest name actors in the world. Maybe not so surprisingly, Tarantino said he and Depp have discussed working together in the past and hope to do so some time in the future. "We would love to work together. We've talked about it for years," Tarantino said of Depp. »

Phil’s Top 10 Films of 2012

Well here it is. After hinting at some of the films on Twitter and promising that this will be unlike any top ten you see this year, I’ve finally compiled my Top 10 films of 2012. However, I originally compiled my list before seeing Pitch Perfect, which I felt Had to be included in this list; therefore my choices for ninth and tenth film on the list now share tenth place.

I’ve also included a hell of a lot of honorable mentions (enough to take this up to a Top 25 if I had included them all), three of which are short films. Three short films which happen to be the best I’ve seen in years and give some of the feature-length films released this year a run for their money. Consider everything on this list a recommendation of the highest order…

2012: Odd spots

Was 2012 the year of the misjudged movie cameo?

Ryan Reynolds in Ted

As any lazy writer (hello) will tell you, if a joke's worth making, it's worth making twice. Seth MacFarlane already had Ryan Reynolds play gay in Family Guy, and he cameos as a sexy, silent, "Van Wilder lookalike" in Ted. Ha ha! Again.

Aziz Ansari in Shut Up And Play The Hits

The comedian didn't even mean to be in the LCD Soundsystem farewell film; he was talked into crowdsurfing by a mate at the gig. Aziz says it was "fun". Because it's not a good night out until you've been groped, lost your phone and wallet and kicked at least three people in the head.

What to watch over the holidays

28 December 2012 4:18 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

What are the films you always tend to watch over the Christmas period? Here's one reader's selection – let us know yours

This week's Clip joint is by David Keeble, who you can follow on Twitter here and via his website here. Got an idea for a future Clip joint? Send a message to adam.boult@guardian.co.uk.

No matter how old we get, most of us love to put on movies that make our Christmas feel that extra bit special. Here are five I will always watch, without fail:

Home Alone

Macaulay Culkin's performance as the young Kevin McCallister in Chris Columbus's film was a cracker. He was also helped by the hilarious performances of Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as two bungling robbers. Sure, it's a somewhat stereotypical Christmas film to choose, but it undeniably has a lot of heart and a strong central message about the importance of family. »

Asked if she gets jealous, Helena said: 'No, because Tim is not having sex with Johnny! No, I rejoice in the friendship! Johnny is a marvellous man and a wonderful friend. 'He is also godfather to our son Billy, and they have a wonderful relationship because Johnny is a dad himself. In Billy's eyes, Uncle Johnny can do no wrong.' Johnny Depp Cheated On Vanessa Paradis With Stewardess — Report

Being typically low-key in regards to his personal life and partnership with Vanessa over the past 14 years, there has been a shocking report as to why the couple has split.

Perhaps Johnny Depp had been flirting with the idea of being a part of the mile-high club, since he reportedly sacrificed his relationship with Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two children, to repeatedly hook up with a sexy, young airline stewardess.

Julie Ellis, 27, has been Johnny’s personal flight attendant for a few years now. Friends of Julie told Star Magazine, “She [Julie] says they have insane sexual chemistry and can’t keep their hands off of each other.” The pair was photographed getting too close for comfort boarding a flight out of Van Nuys, California on Dec 15. Julie told Star herself, “I love my job. Someone took a picture that shouldn’t have been taken.” But did she ever »
