Osbournes bite into biopic

30 October 2002 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

NEW YORK-- Ozzy Osbourne is close to signing a deal with a major studio for a biopic about his wild life and times, according to his wife, Sharon Osbourne. Osbournes fans hoping the self-proclaimed Prince of Darkness will star as Himself will be disappointed. He wouldn't be in it himself, she said, but named the person atop her wish list of thespians who might portray her husband: Johnny Depp. "I have a dream of who it could be, but I don't know if he'll do it," she said. He's a brilliant actor. Osbourne revealed her movie plans in an interview about the upcoming 10-episode season of her MTV series, which has been scheduled to premiere Nov. 26. Refuting reported rumors that her treatment for cancer could push the debut into next year, Osbourne said she is in relatively good health given the circumstances and won't shy away from depicting her struggle with the disease on the air. We're still an open book, she said. »

A fire has hit the Hollywood set of Johnny Depp's new movie Pirates Of The Caribbean, causing $525,000 worth of damage. According to a Los Angeles Fire Brigade spokesman no one was injured in the blaze at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. The fire was extinguished after 50 minutes. The spokesperson says, "The cause is now under investigation, but it involved the set preparation and a type of foam that they carve into different shapes to use." A Disney source insists the fire won't hold-up production of the film - which co- stars Lord Of The Rings actor Orlando Bloom and Oscar- winner Geoffrey Rush. The flick is due to hit theatre screens next summer. »

Gilliam Vows To Make Don Quixote Flick With Depp

7 August 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Twelve Monkeys director Terry Gilliam insists his ill-fated biopic of Don Quixote will eventually be made. The former Monty Python cartoonist had to abandon production on the film, which was set to star Johnny Depp, after a catalogue of disasters. F16s from a nearby Nato base made filming impossible by repeatedly flying over the set, while French actor Jean Rochefort, set for the role of Quixote himself, got a prostate infection and had to return to Paris. Finally a huge storm hit the set and carried off essential equipment. But Gilliam says Depp is on board for a reshoot if he can find $40 million and buy the script back from the German insurance company which now owns it. He says, "The film is in my head. I've watched it there thousands of times. I just want to get it out. All I know is that in September 2003, Johnny has a window in his film commitments, and all my efforts are concentrated towards that. We're gonna buy back the script, get the crew together, and probably recast some roles. But it's going to happen." A documentary, Lost In La Mancha, about the making of the film, hits cinemas around the world over the next few months. Gilliam's poor luck has been blamed on a Don Quixote curse, which also hit a previous effort to make a movie by Orson Welles, who died without ever realising his dream. »

Hollywood star Brad Pitt has upset residents of an Australian tourist resort - by refusing to shoot his new movie there. The movie star is moving Down Under for six months while he makes new film The Fountain, with Cate Blanchett and Johnny Depp, there. The film was due to be shot in studios on Queensland's Gold Coast - but according to British tabloid the Daily Mirror, Brad has been urging movie bosses to move the shoot to nearby Cairns, because he thinks the Gold Coast is "a shlocky tourist area". A source told the newspaper, "Brad, who was introduced to Cairns by Keanu Reeves said it had great food, great ambience and the locals leave you alone because they're used to big names." The Mexican star isn't the only big Hollywood name to disapprove of the West Coast resort. Depp Is Ricci's Number One

17 July 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Christina Ricci's ideal man is her three-time co-star Johnny Depp. The stunning 22-year-old acted with Depp in Sleepy Hollow, The Man Who Cried and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. And while she knows he's off-limits as a married man, Ricci reckons the dark-haired star is definitely the coolest guy in Hollywood. She says, "He's the kindest, most loving man ever. There's nobody like him, because nobody can be that fabulous. I've worked with him three times and we have a lot in common. We don't like to talk to other actors while we're working and we just deal with the director. The impact Johnny had on people was amazing to watch. Forget the women - even the guys followed him around. They'd offer to carry his coffee cups, roll his cigarettes or wear a hat from his club The Viper Room. He's the coolest guy ever. That man is 39 and still looks 22. And to those people who might think I'm cool, I'd like to point out that I haven't slept with someone as cool as Kate Moss, like Johnny did. But he's strictly off limits to me. He's married and that rules him out. Also, the first time we met I was nine and he was already 27, so I can't imagine it." »

Britney's Body On Surgeons' Most Wanted List

15 February 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

She may not be overjoyed with her own looks, but Britney Spears has a body most other women would pay for. The curvaceous pop siren has emerged as having the most popular body among women wanting plastic surgery. A survey by a pair of Beverly Hills surgeons found Britney's svelte figure and pert assets were the ideal among women seeking to enhance their own looks. Bizarrely, Britney has complained about her looks, saying she hates her feet, fingernails and nose. The same survey found women want Heather Graham's piercing eyes, Heather Locklear's cute nose, Halle Berry's cut-glass cheeks and Denise Richards' ample lips. The findings come from consultations with about 1,500 female patients during the past year, Doctor Richard Fleming, co-director of the Beverly Hills Institute Of Aesthetic & Reconstructive Surgery, says. Fleming, who conducts the annual survey with his partner, Doctor Toby Mayer, adds, "There is a limit. We have to deal with what we're presented. If Roseanne Barr comes in and wants to look like Britney Spears, I don't care, it's just not possible." Male patients also had their idols of good looks, with Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt leading the pack for best eyes, Oscar-winning Traffic star Benicio Del Toro named number one for best lips and Johnny Depp for best jaw. Russell Crowe has the most favored chin, while the newly muscular Will Smith tops the list for most desirable male body. »

Depp's Amazing Lack Of Ego - And Fat

18 January 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Film-makers The Hughes Brothers were amazed by Johnny Depp while making new movie From Hell, because of his lack of ego - and fat. The movie-making siblings, Allen and Albert, marvelled at how humble their leading man and woman, Heather Graham, were - but were particularly amazed at how Depp's junk-food diet failed to impact on his waistline. Albert says, "You would think that there would have been egos but Johnny and Heather are really sweet people, and incredibly hard workers." Allen adds, "It's funny how skinny Johnny is, all he eats is Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonalds and crappy food! He's proud of it. He takes his shirt off, and there's not one bit of fat. He's 38-years-old and he looks like he's 25." However, Depp, who's married to sexy French star Vanessa Paradis, reveals the secret of his physique lies in his upbringing. "I was born and raised in Kentucky. I was weaned on pork fat and grease. It's part of my chemical make-up. I need it!" »

Demme Autopsy Inconclusive

18 January 2002 | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Film-maker Ted Demme's sudden death on Sunday was likely the result of "natural causes", according to the Los Angeles Coroner's Office. Toxicology tests and a thorough look at the burly 38-year-old's medical history - a process which could take several weeks - will now be conducted. Demme was pronounced dead Sunday at UCLA Medical Center in California. He had been brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest after collapsing at a celebrity basketball game at nearby Crossroads School. The popular director of films such as the Denis Leary kidnapping satire The Ref, the Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy prison comedy Life and the hit Johnny Depp drug saga Blow had seemed destined to become as well-known and admired as his uncle, Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme. A former football lineman in college, Ted Demme was less than six feet (1.8 meters) in height but, according to the coroner's office, "in excess of 200 pounds (90 kilograms)." He reportedly played basketball as often as five times a week. He was known to joke about his shape and size. In a 1998 interview with the Los Angeles Times he said, "It's an encouraging thing that studios are hiring, big, husky guys... We're the minority that has been deprived of work for years. The millennium will be good for the husky. Watch out, you skinny bums." »
