The Exorcist Series To Debut In September; Scream Queens, Lucifer, Gotham And More Score New Season Premiere Dates

16 June 2016 2:45 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Making the transition from book to big screen to small screen is none other than the seminal horror classic, The Exorcist. With the most recent incarnation filming now, and a somewhat divisive teaser already in circulation, the question has been: when can we actually see this revised take on William Peter Blatty’s iconic novel?

As Fox released its Fall 2016 schedule today, we now know when to expect this next slice of possession to hit the box: Friday, September 23rd at 9pm. Rather amusingly, the series premieres directly after Hell’s Kitchen, and looks to be retaining that slot all season. Despite taking its cues from the aforementioned tome, and the scary-as-hell 1974 movie, Fox’s approach to the show is a sorta-kinda reboot. It won’t follow the trials and tribulations of Regan McNeil, instead focusing on a new family wracked with horror when their daughter is taken hold by an evil spirit. »

“What fresh hell is this?” Fox has officially set calendar slots for their fall TV schedule, including the premiere dates for The Exorcist, Scream Queens Season 2, and Lucifer Season 2.

Inspired by the 1971 novel and the 1973 film that both bear the same name, The Exorcist will make its series premiere on Friday, September 23rd at 9:00pm Est. Scream Queens, meanwhile, will return for its second season on Tuesday, September 20th at 9:00pm Est, and fans of Mr. Morningstar can watch Lucifer Season 2 debut on Monday, September 19th at 9:00pm Est. Below, we have the official press release with full details:

Press Release: Fox has set the fall premiere dates for its new and returning series.

All-new episodes of Gotham and Lucifer return Monday, Sept. 19. On Season Three of Gotham (8:00-9:00 Pm Et/Pt), the origin story continues and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super-Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City. Season Two of Lucifer (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) promises to be a mother of a season, as Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) is tasked with finding his family’s matriarch, while continuing to take down criminals alongside Lapd Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German).

Tuesday nights of comedy begin Tuesday, Sept. 20 with the return of Brooklyn Nine-nine, New Girl and Scream Queens. Entering its fourth season, Brooklyn Nine-nine (8:00-8:30 Pm Et/Pt) returns after a season finale cliffhanger in which Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and his by-the-book boss, Captain Holt (Andre Braugher), were forced to enter the federal witness protection program. Then, the sixth season of ensemble comedy New Girl (8:30-9:00 Pm Et/Pt) continues to follow Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and the gang as they attempt to find their respective places in the world, while begrudgingly accepting the responsibilities of adulthood – from marriage to career advancement – with often hilarious results.

From award-winning executive producers Ryan Murphy (“The People V. Oj Simpson: American Crime Story,” “American Horror Story,” “Nip/Tuck”), Brad Falchuk (“American Horror Story,” “Glee,” “Nip/Tuck”) and Ian Brennan (“Glee”), Season Two of Scream Queens (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) graduates from the college campus and into a hospital with a haunted past, as a new and terrifyingly funny mystery begins. Returning for Season Two are cast members Emma Roberts as Chanel Oberlin, 2016 Golden Globe Award nominee Jamie Lee Curtis as Cathy Munsch, Lea Michele as Hester Ulrich, Abigail Breslin as Chanel #5, Keke Palmer as Zayday Williams, Billie Lourd as Chanel #3, Glen Powell as Chad Radwell and Niecy Nash as Denise Hemphill. Additional cast members to be announced.

Beginning Sept. 21, Wednesdays are explosive, with the series premiere of Lethal Weapon and the return of Empire. Based on the hit movie franchise of the same name, Lethal Weapon (8:00-9:00 Pm Et/Pt) follows iconic cop duo Riggs (Clayne Crawford, “Rectify”) and Murtaugh (Emmy Award nominee Damon Wayans, Sr., “My Wife and Kids,” “In Living Color”), as they work a crime-ridden beat in modern-day Los Angeles. Empire (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt), broadcast television’s biggest hit, is a powerful drama about a family at the center of a music dynasty. This season, Empire Entertainment founder Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) sets his sights on a new streaming service; as his ex-wife, Cookie Lyon (Golden Globe Award winner and Emmy Award nominee Taraji P. Henson) pursues a new romantic interest; and his sons, Jamal (Jussie Smollett), Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) and Andre (Trai Byers), struggle with fame and ambition.

All-new episodes of Rosewood return, followed by the series premiere of Pitch, beginning Thursday, Sept. 22. Set against the vibrant backdrop of one of the world’s hottest cities – Miami – medical procedural Rosewood (8:00-9:00 Pm Et/Pt) enters its second season as top private pathologist Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr. (Morris Chestnut) and tough-as-nails Detective Annalise Villa (Jaina Lee Ortiz) solve the Miami Pd’s most challenging cases. Pitch (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) is the dramatic and emotional story of Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury, “Under The Dome”), who becomes the first woman to play Major League Baseball – under the glare of a white-hot media spotlight. From executive producer Dan Fogelman (“Crazy, Stupid, Love.”), the inspiring series also stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar (“Franklin & Bash,” “NYPD Blue”), Ali Larter (“Legends,” “Heroes”), Mark Consuelos (“Kingdom,” “All My Children”) and Dan Lauria (“The Wonder Years”).

Friday nights are terrifyingly entertaining, beginning Sept. 23, with the return of Hell’S Kitchen and the series premiere of The Exorcist. Season 16 of Hell’S Kitchen (8:00-9:00 Pm Et/Pt) welcomes a new batch of ambitious chefs who will brave Chef Gordon Ramsay and his fiery command of the kitchen as he puts them through an intense culinary academy. Then, The Exorcist (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) returns as a contemporary psychological TV thriller following two very different priests tackling one family’s case of terrifying demonic possession. Directed by Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”), the series stars Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Geena Davis (“Commander in Chief,” “Thelma & Louise”), Alfonso Herrera (“Sense8,” “The Chosen”) and Ben Daniels (“Flesh and Bone,” “House of Cards”).

Sunday Funday returns beginning Sept. 25, with the season premieres of Emmy Award-winning comedy Bob’S Burgers (7:30-8:00 Pm Et/Pt) and the unprecedented 28th season of The Simpsons (8:00-8:30 Pm Et/Pt), followed by the premiere of hybrid live-action/animated family comedy Son Of Zorn (8:30-9:00 Pm Et/Pt). Featuring the voice of Jason Sudeikis (The Last Man On Earth, “Horrible Bosses,” “We’re the Millers”), Son Of Zorn follows an animated warrior from a faraway island in the Pacific Ocean, who returns to Orange County, CA, to win back his live-action ex-wife (Cheryl Hines, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) and teenage son (Johnny Pemberton, “21 Jump Street”). Rounding out the night are the 14th season premiere of creator Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy (9:00-9:30 Pm Et/Pt) and Season Three of the critically acclaimed live-action comedy The Last Man On Earth (9:30-10:00 Pm Et/Pt), created by and starring Emmy Award nominee Will Forte.

Fox Sets Fall Premiere Dates: Mark Your Calendars!

16 June 2016 12:17 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Fox is the second network to announce its fall schedule, and that's a good thing, because its new shows are pretty darn good.

The extremely well done and engaging Lethal Weapon will lead into Empire on Wednesdays, while the highly anticipated Pitch will follow Rosewood on Thursdays.

The Exorcist, starring Geena Davis, will follow Hell's Kitchen on Fridays. See what they did there? With Lucifer remaining on Mondays, that's a lot of hell to go around!

Finally, Son of Zorn, which looks excellent for a partially animated addition to the lineup, will fall in on Sundays, right in the middle of their already successful series of programming.

What I like about that is the way it's sandwiched is farthest back on both ends are live action comedies, and up close before and after are The Simpsons and Family Guy. Right in the middle is a live action comedy with an animated lead. »

Winona Ryder on Beetlejuice sequel: 'It would be great'

14 June 2016 11:26 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

If you say Beetlejuice three times, will they make a sequel? The long-discussed follow-up to Beetlejuice got an endorsement from one of the film’s key players — Winona Ryder. The woman who played Lydia Deetz in the 1988 flick told Collider, “It would be great if it happened,” but it sounds like nothing is for certain. “I don’t really know what’s going on with that. Obviously, it was an iconic film. The only way it could really ever be done is with Tim [Burton] and Michael [Keaton],” Ryder said. “There’s something that really resonates with all ages, with that film. It’s interesting… if it was the right circumstances.” Ryder’s comments come a little more than a month after Burton discussed the sequel’s possibility with Collider. “It’s something that I’m interested in,” Burton said. “It’s something that I really would like to do in the right circumstances, but it’s one of those films where it has to be right. It’s not a kind of a movie that cries out [for a sequel]… But there’s nothing concrete yet.” The original film, which also featured Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Catherine O'Hara, grossed an adjusted $148 million. It also landed a spot on the American Film Institute’s list of Top 100 comedies. »

Directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi.

Featuring the voice talents of Sara TakatsukiKasumi Arimura and Hana Sugisaki (Japanese)/Hailee Steinfield, John C. Reilly and Geena Davis (English).

A troubled teen finds peace in a beach-side town and a mysterious new friend, Marnie…

Studio Ghibli likes to take us on a journey. Whether we are moving house in My Neighbour Totoro or seeing the surreal world of Spirited Away, the experience is always unforgettable. When Marnie Was There, the latest Ghibli release, carries us a little closer to home than the more playful exploits we’ve experienced, but it weaves a personal and meaningful tale of family, friendship and those tricky teenage years into the mix. Instinctively, the use of the name ‘Marnie’ sends me to Hitchcock. Indeed, When Marnie Was There shares an intriguing investigative key (and a tall silo not unlike the bell tower) that »

The Famous Role George Clooney Hates That He Lost To Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt and George Clooney, quietly, have made a ton of great movies together. The real-life friends have collaborated on everything from Coen Brothers comedies to a trilogy of Ocean’s capers. But back in the day, the two reportedly went out for the same roles, with Pitt getting the better on Clooney for at least one specific role that haunts the one-time Batman to this day. Decades ago – long before he played Tyler Durden or Benjamin Button – Brad Pitt was cast as the handsome thief J.D. in Ridley Scott’s Thelma & Louise. Naturally, Pitt’s looks and charisma helped earn him the part, but as it turns out, he edged future bestie George Clooney for the role. Geena Davis, who played Thelma in Sir Ridley’s classic, recalled that she learned this fact while sitting opposite Clooney on a flight. As »

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe do chalk and cheese in Lethal Weapon writer Shane Black’s old-school buddy pic

Ryan Gosling’s private investigator makes most of his discoveries by falling off, over and into things

In the late 80s, Shane Black’s Lethal Weapon script became a touchstone for saleable, hard-boiled, odd-couple buddy pics, movies that combined action, comedy and wise-assed verbal vulgarity in varying measures. 1991’s The Last Boy Scout built on Black’s fondness for smart, nihilistic profanity, predating the arrival of Reservoir Dogs, after which anything involving swearing, guns and cine-literacy would be lazily labelled “Tarantino-esque”. In 1996, Black made headlines by earning a record-breaking $4m for penning the script for what became the Geena Davis/Samuel Jackson thriller The Long Kiss Goodnight. But it wasn’t until 2005 that the writer finally turned director with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, a tongue-in-cheek La neo-noir, the mistyped tagline for which ran: “SeX. »
