Ridley Scott Not Opposed To Bringing Back Russell Crowe For Gladiator 2

27 April 2017 6:23 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

He’s resurrected the Xenomorph in time for next month’s Alien: Covenant – after famously declaring that the beast was done/cooked – and it seems Ridley Scott has been swayed about another iconic character of his: General Maximus Decimus Meridius.

It was Russell Crowe who first donned the sword and sandals for Gladiator almost two decades ago – collecting an Oscar for Best Actor in the process – and even to this day, mooted reports of a sequel continue to litter the interwebs. Case in point: Me.Movies (via Screen Rant) caught up with Ridley Scott to talk all things Alien: Covenant, and it wasn’t long before the outlet quizzed the illustrious filmmaker on the status of Gladiator 2.

Last we reported, Scott and musician Nick Cave had drawn up tentative sequel plans that would have involved Maximus returning from the afterlife to confront Christ and his many disciples. It’s quite »

Gladiator 2: How Ridley Scott Planned To Bring Maximus Back For The Sequel

26 April 2017 12:30 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

There are a lot of strange stories in Hollywood. Creative types are a strange bunch, and if you ever corner someone who’s been in the business for any significant amount of time, you’ll likely hear a significant number of crazy stories (if you’ve never read William Goldman’s Adventures in the Screen Trade, or Which Lie Did I Tell?, they’re chock-full of them — highly recommended). However, every so often, you come across a rumor so weird that there’s no way in hell it could be true, right?

One of those rumors revolved around A-list director Ridley Scott and a sequel to the 2000 hit, Gladiator. Yes, That Gladiator — the one where Russell Crowe dies at the end — That Gladiator was going to get a sequel. Even stranger is the fact that the sequel would have brought back Maximus. Rumors continued revolving around that script — that involved Maximus in the afterlife, »

30 Things We Learned from James Mangold’s ‘3:10 to Yuma’ Commentary

26 April 2017 8:21 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

“No one, and I mean no one wanted to make this movie.”

James Mangold delivered one of this year’s best films with Logan, and among its many acclaimed aspects is its vibe and feel of a modern-day western. It’s something he’s done before with Cop Land, but Mangold also made a point of directing an actual western as well.

Keep reading to see what I heard on the commentary track for…

3:10 to Yuma (2007)

Commentator: James Mangold (director)

1. He assumes the first question we might have for him regarding this film is “why” make a remake at all? “That original film had had such power on me ever since I saw it when I was seventeen years old, and I felt that the story could have power again in a very relevant way now.”

2. While he thinks most remakes are motivated by greed in his eyes for easy, recognizable »

New international trailer for The Mummy lands

21 April 2017 9:47 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

A new international trailer for the upcoming redo of The Mummy over at Universal Pictures has landed on our doorstep. The new promo hails from the Far East and once again gives us an early look at Tom Cruise and co. in the forthcoming remake of the classic monster movie.

In addition to this new trailer, director Robert Kurtzman has also been speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his new film, and just who we may expect to see alongside The Mummy in the film. After all, we’ve already seen Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll in the existing trailers.

“The movie’s called ‘The Mummy,’ not ‘The Mummy Meets 12 Other Monsters,’” Kurtzman told the outlet. “If we create a world that feels interesting and scary, then we will have succeeded in setting up the larger universe.”

Fair enough.

The Mummy debuts in cinemas from the 9th June 2017.

International Trailer For The Mummy Presents A History Lesson As EW Summons New Action Shot

Nick Morton, meet Princess Ahmanet.

Two months out from release, Entertainment Weekly has summoned an all-new action shot for The Mummy, Universal and Alex Kurtzman’s bold reboot that places Tom Cruise in the grubby boots of Morton. A former military man with experience in the Middle East, by the time Kurtzman’s budding franchise-starter opens in June, Nick Morton will have uncovered an ancient, all-consuming evil the likes of which he’s never seen. Down below, you’ll get a sneak peek at that encounter between god and man, as Tom Cruise gingerly approaches the Mummy, who is securely (?) bound by all sorts of restraints.

As writer-director Alex Kurtzman tells EW, Sofia Boutella’s deity is “a woman who wasn’t content to be put in her place and wanted something more.” You’ll get a sense of that history via The Mummy‘s new international trailer (see above »

The Mummy: Why Princess Ahmanet’s So Evil, & ‘Monster Avenger’ Possibilities

20 April 2017 3:57 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Sofia Boutella’s Ahmanet in the upcoming Tom Cruise flick, The Mummy, looks like a terrifying psychopath. If we’re to believe the trailer, it seems like she went on a murderous rampage before being locked away fro her malice. Unfortunately, thanks to Tom Cruise’s character, Nick Morton, her rage has been unleashed upon the world and everything in it.

But where’s the motive behind Ahmanet’s rage? Is there some rhyme behind her malevolence, or is she just a bona fide crazy person?

Thanks to the folks over at EW, we now have some extra insight into her backstory. Apparently, Ahmanet’s father had promised to maker her pharaoh, but after he had a son, he went back on that promise, and it appears that may be the catalyst of her bloodthirsty frenzy.

Deadpool 2: Kevin Feige Rubbishes Talk That Josh Brolin Playing Cable Is An Issue

18 April 2017 2:27 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s going on five years since Josh Brolin made his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, tucked away in a mid-credits scene in Joss Whedon’s Avengers movie. In those intervening years, the Mad Titan has in many ways acted as the McU’s master puppeteer, quietly pulling the strings from the shadows (read: his levitating throne) as he worked to assemble all of the necessary Infinity Stones to fill his all-powerful Gauntlet.

This all folds into the narrative of Avengers: Infinity War, Joe and Anthony Russo’s upcoming sequel that will bring together all of the major players of the McU for a truly epic clash with Thanos, and it shouldn’t be all that surprising to hear that Josh Brolin is set for his biggest Marvel role to date.

As we learned last week, the actor is now poised to follow up Infinity War by playing »

Five Things I Still Like About the DC Extended Universe

Anghus Houvouras with five things he likes about the DC Extended Universe…

I’ll tell you what I don’t like: having to type the words ‘DC Extended Universe’. It just sounds stupid. That really has nothing to do with the following column, but I always wonder who the hell coined that awkward franchise phrase every time I write about this subject.

The Justice League trailer arrived last month, and if you’re anything like me you really enjoyed it. Also, if you’re anything like me you might be genetically predisposed to schizophrenia, so go see a mental health professional as soon as you finish reading this column.

I loved the trailer. It featured so many thing I liked about adaptations of DC’s most popular characters. Even though the movies have been divisive amongst fans and frequent punching bags with critics, there are still things about this universe to like. »

“I have lied, killed and broken trust, but when I stand before God I’ll have one thing to say to weigh against all the rest…”

With that one simple but oh-so-passionate line of dialogue, the ongoing Droughtlander became a little less painful Sunday after Starz dropped its first official tease for season 3 of Outlander that was almost immediately leaked online for all those non-subscribers. So much for trying to get folks to tune into the premiere of The White Princess on the west coast! (The network will make it available for social media on Monday morning).

Bill Condon In Talks To Direct The Bride Of Frankenstein

13 April 2017 7:03 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Hot off the success of the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, which is now sitting at $1 billion at the worldwide box office, Bill Condon is in talks with Universal to direct their remake of The Bride of Frankenstein. The project is part of the studio’s new cinematic universe, one which features all of their classic monsters and kicks off shortly with the release of The Mummy. From there, we’ll also be getting The Invisible Man, Van Helsing, Creature from the Black Lagoon and many more.

On board to produce The Bride of Frankenstein are Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, with a script from David Koepp that apparently has “kind of a feminist bent to the new story.” The original, which released in 1935 and was directed by James Whale, is a classic of the genre and starred Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester. There’s no word yet on casting for the remake, »

Tom Cruise toes the line between life and death in the latest, downright spooky TV spot for Universal’s reboot of The Mummy.

Coming to us by way of the film’s Twitter account (via Cbm), the all-too-brief promo doubles down on Nick Morton’s (Cruise) close brush with death. In fact, after his military plane goes down in spectacular fashion, Tom Cruise’s lead wakes up in the morgue, and it seems he’s developed an inexplicable connection to the long-lost Princess Ahmanet. After eons spent buried underground, and one crude awakening later, Sofia Boutella’s deity prepares to unleash her wrath upon the unsuspecting masses, and it’s up to Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis), Sgt. Vail (Jake Johnson), Dr. Henry Jekyll (Russell Crowe) and the team of Prodigium to confront that ancient evil head on.
