Wayne Crawford, ‘Valley Girl’ Producer, Dies at 69

13 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Wayne Crawford, who produced indie hits including “Valley Girl” and “Night of the Comet” and acted in dozens of films and TV shows, died April 30 in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was 69 and had been ill for some time, according to a colleague, Gregory Small.

The 1983 “Valley Girl,” which he also wrote, was directed by Martha Coolidge and starred a punky Nicolas Cage with Deborah Foreman. The film included a New Wave greatest hits soundtrack, but notably didn’t include the Frank Zappa song “Valley Girl,” which Zappa would not allow.

His other films as producer included “Peacemaker” and “Mortal Passions.” As an actor, he appeared in the TV series “American Heart” and “Okavango” and made numerous guest appearances.

Born in Geneva, New York, Crawford began his career as an actor in New York, working Off-Broadway and on truck and bus tours around America. While acting in a low-budget movie in South Florida, »

Julia Roberts Paid $3 Million for Four Days of Work on 'Mother's Day': Report

17 hours ago | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

At least someone had a happy "Mother's Day." Critics and audiences did not embrace the star-studded rom-com, which has a depressing 8 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and opened to fourth place at the box office with $8.3 million. However, Variety reports that Julia Roberts walked away with a $3 million paycheck for her supporting role, which reportedly took four days to shoot.

You get that money, pretty woman!

If true, that breaks down to $750,000 a day, which sounds like Monopoly money from here and shows Roberts is still able to command major cash after a long career in showbiz. Variety added that it's nowhere near the record $20 million she got at the peak of her career in 2000 for "Erin Brockovich," but that comparison isn't quite fair. She had the lead role in that film, not a supporting job that only took four days. Not just anyone could've done Erin Brockovich justice, »

Actors who Almost Played Famous Roles

30 April 2016 4:14 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Did you ever see an actor/actress in a famous role and then hear later that they were not the first, or even the second choice to play the iconic part? Many of the legendary movie characters began as a vehicle for a different star than the one who we know-and-love in the part. Here are a few of the greatest examples of famous "Almosts'.

Christopher Walken As Han Solo: George Lucas had a very hard time finding his Han Solo in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). This character was the last of the lead figures to be cast. Lucas’ leading contender at one point was none other than Christopher Walken. Just think about the possibilities in that performance! However, a chance meeting with Harrison Ford (Who was working as a carpenter at the time) inspired Lucas to cast Ford in the part instead, which launched him into super stardom in the 80s. »

A new Trailer for “Snowden” shows off the biopic as a potential Oscar player

27 April 2016 12:49 PM, PDT | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

Earlier today, a new full length Trailer dropped for Snowden, the Oliver Stone helmed biopic of a certain notorious whistleblower. This conspiracy/political thriller seems right up Stone’s wheelhouse, with an A-list cast on to help, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the title role. We’ve only seen little teases for the film so far, along with a delayed release from last year (when the movie apparently wasn’t finished yet) to this year, so it’s pretty much been an X factor. Now, a bit more is known, so some musings can be done. Of course, you can see the Trailer at the end of the piece, but for now, let’s dive in and see what we can potentially make of this one… For those unaware, this is a biopic of Edward Snowden (played here by Gordon-Levitt), who we see go from dedicated work in the military to »

"There's something going inside the government that's really wrong and I can't ignore it..." Open Road Films has debuted the first full trailer for Oliver Stone's Snowden, the Hollywood movie about Edward Snowden starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Most may remember that we originally debuted a teaser trailer for this (with no footage only audio) last year but the film was delayed almost an entire year for release. Now we finally get a good glimpse at all the footage and the story that we will be following and it actually looks pretty good. Shailene Woodley co-stars as his girlfriend Lindsay, and the cast includes Nicolas Cage and Zachary Quinto. This looks way better than the awful hacker movie Blackhat, but not as impressive as Fincher's The Social Network, somewhere inbetween those two. I'm planning to see this. Take a look below. Joseph Gordon-Levitt Nails Voice of 'Snowden' in Oliver Stone Film Trailer

27 April 2016 8:12 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The official trailer for "Snowden" is here, showing director Oliver Stone in full political paranoia mode, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt doing an impressive job as the titular hero/traitor.

If you've spent any time listening to Edward Snowden talk about his experience leaking classified intel from the National Security Agency (perhaps in the documentary "Citizenfour") you have an idea of his voice and cadence. Jgl nails it in the trailer, which starts with Snowden being discharged from Special Forces training after breaking both legs, and taking him through his employment at the CIA to his decision to leak information about Nsa surveillance activities.

The trailer illustrates Snowden's shock about the level of government spying, painting him as a brilliant, almost Bourne-style operative. But we also see more of Snowden's personal life, with Shailene Woodley as his girlfriend Lindsay.

Released by Open Road Films on Wednesday, the trailer offers the first look at Gordon-Levitt’s Nsa whistleblower.
