Jesus Returns in First Big Lebowski Spin-Off Set Photo

22 August 2016 5:10 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Last week, a report surfaced that actor/director John Turturro's new film Going Places is actually a Big Lebowski spinoff, with the actor returning as Jesus Quintana. The film was already said to have started shooting in New York City, which is essentially a remake of 1974 French film Les Valseuses centering on his Jesus character, with Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon and Audrey Tautou also set to star. Today we have the first photo from the set with John Turturro as Jesus, thanks to one of the actor/director's co-stars.

Susan Sarandon shared this photo on Instagram, with the brief caption, "The Man. John Tuturro on location. Love you." The actress also tagged the location as "The Sands at Lido Beach" in Lido Beach, New York, which is situated between Queens and Long Island. John Turturro is also directing this spinoff from his own script, which follows two thieves, John Turturro »

Crowdfunding: An Awkward, Instructive Tool for Student Filmmakers

19 August 2016 8:30 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Last month, I finished a Kickstarter campaign for my first short film: “Alpacaland,” a horror comedy inspired by a movement of late 1930s Soviet propaganda musicals set on farms. I looked at crowdfunding as a resource to help give the project funding I couldn’t otherwise offer. To cast a wide net of interest, I updated the page every day, asked a dozen friends to help with social media, and tried to make the project sound like a legitimate independent film worthy of the site I write for.

The experience was successful, buoyed by a number of supportive friends and family members. Yet for a while, it was an awkward, messy experience, bordering on obsessive and self-doubting. For weeks, our social media mark struggled to extend well beyond donors who knew a member of the team. I started asking students I knew at Wesleyan, Nyu and other schools if their experience was similarly strange. »

John Turturro in Production on ‘Big Lebowski’ Spinoff ‘Going Places’

18 August 2016 12:51 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

John Turturro has started shooting the dramatic comedy “Going Places” in what’s believed to be a spin-off of the Coen brothers’ “The Big Lebowski.” The project is currently filming in New York.

Turturro is directing, starring and wrote the screenplay, inspired by the 1974 French film “Going Places” (Les Valseuses), which starred Miou-Miou, Gérard Depardieu and Patrick Dewaere, directed by and based on the novel by Bertrand Blier.

As with the French film, (the French title is slang for “the testicles”) Turturro’s version follows a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude backfires time and again. In the French film, Depardieu and Dewaere played young men who travel around France, committing petty crimes and running from the law. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape.

17 August 2016 12:07 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The Coen Brothers are not known for making sequels to their movies, and have made it quite clear that the prospect doesn't interest them very much. But that doesn't mean we won't ever see some of their beloved characters return. In fact, we may finally be seeing some characters from The Big Lebowski make their way back to the big screen in the near future. How, you may ask? Well, It looks like a new spinoff movie involving John Turturro's character Jesus Quintana is currently being filmed in New York.

A new report from Birth.Movies.Death claims that the movie Going Places, which he is currently filming and is said to be a remake of a 70s French movie, is actually a Big Lebowski spinoff. The script was reportedly written by Turturro himself, and he has assembled a cast that includes Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou and Susan Sarandon. »

With Margot Robbie getting praise for her performance as Harley Quinn, Luke Owen looks back at what could have been the character’s first on-screen appearance…

Following the box office success of Batman Forever and the impressive dailies for Batman & Robin, it was announced in February 1997 that Joel Schumacher would be returning to direct the fifth movie in the franchise. Joining him on this adventure would be screenwriter Mark Protosevich, who had previously written the script for Batman & Robin as well as one of Warner Bros.’ many attempts to adapt I Am Legend. “A few months ago, there were twelve movies being shot on the Warner Bros. lot, and [Warner Bros. executives] Bob Daly and Terry Semel asked to see a sample reel of each film,” Schumacher said at the time. “Each director put together dailies from the film. After Bob and Terry saw ours, they ordered another script for Batman.”

‘Carol’: Same-Sex Kissing Scenes Edited Out of Delta Flights for Not Meeting ‘Guidelines’

Watch: Rooney Mara’s “CarolInterview

Somebody thinks the sight of Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara kissing in “Carol” is not suitable viewing at 30,000 feet. As AfterEllen reports, Delta (and other airlines) showed a version of the film that had every kissing scene between the two actors edited out. When a viewer complained to the airline about the cuts, she received this response from Delta:

On behalf of Delta Air Lines I apologize for your disappointment with our in-flight movie selection. As you can imagine, choosing entertainment that meets all of our passengers’ needs is a tricky business. Although we try to show a variety of videos that have been edited for an airline audience, I’m sorry the edits for the movie “Carol” offended you…Please know it is never our policy to discriminate on the basis of race, gender, age, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation or similar classification. »

NBC’s Bob Greenblatt and Jennifer Salke on Donald Trump, Comedy Woes and New Dick Wolf, Paul Haggis Dramas

Even if Donald Trump loses the race for the American presidency, there isn’t room for him back at his old stomping ground.

“He will never be back on the Celebrity Apprentice, as long as I’m here,” NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told reporters. Would Trump be welcome to star in another show on the network? “I have no idea at this point.”

Did “The Apprentice” and “Celebrity Apprentice” play a role in Trump’s ultimate candidacy? Earlier this summer, NBC’s alternative programming president Paul Telegdy told us “yes.” Greenblatt said he was less sure there was a correlation.

“[‘Doonesbury’ creator] Garry Trudeau was predicting Donald Trump would run for president 15 years before,” he noted. “I think it surprised all of us that [Trump] would want to do this. I guess that’s what’s great about this country.”
