7 Great Modern Heist Scenes, From ‘The Dark Knight’ to ‘Point Break’

17 August 2017 8:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

No one quite puts together a heist scene like Steven Soderbergh, but he has plenty of company. Soderbergh is back to his heist roots this week with the release of “Logan Lucky,” which injects some “Ocean’s Eleven” style into a homegrown robbery cooked up by the Logan brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver), who set out to drain a local speedway during one of its biggest race days of the entire year. Aided by a predictably motley crew, including the wild-eyed Joe Bang (Daniel Craig) and their talented driver sister (Riley Keough), the Logans’ plan is ambitious and fun, but it also seems like the kind of thing that only Soderbergh could cook up (it involves digging, vacuuming, cake and prosthetic arms, of all things).

10 Things You Should Know About Cable to Make You Psyched He's in Deadpool 2

16 August 2017 2:31 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Josh Brolin has come a long way from The Goonies, Thrashin' and the bad guy of the week opposite Johnny Depp in a killer episode of 21 Jump Street. And right after he's finished throwing a moon at Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers Infinity War, Brolin will step away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to mix it up with Fox's world of merry mutants in Deadpool 2. Hollywood rights issues are keeping X-Men related characters from interacting with the rest of the Marvel Universe onscreen, but that can't stop our favorite actors from crossing over as different characters.

Ryan Reynolds started teasing the cinematic debut of Cable in the post-credits scene attached to Deadpool, the years in development surprise box office smash that took meta-humor and R-Rated anti-hero action comedy violence to previously uncharted heights. Remember that Ferris Bueller inspired bathrobe riffing in that post credits scene? Plenty of audiences actually »

Daniel Craig Confirms He Will Return as James Bond

15 August 2017 9:09 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Daniel Craig has made it official: He’ll be returning for another movie as James Bond.

Craig confirmed the news that had been widely expected during his appearance on Tuesday’s edition of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.”

Colbert pressed Craig about his quote, when he joked that he would “rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than return to the role. Craig said he gave that interview two days after “Spectre” finished shooting, when he was still exhausted.

“Instead of saying something with style and grace, I said something really stupid,” he said.

31 underrated movies well worth a look

Simon Brew Aug 18, 2017

Looking for a film to watch, that you might not have considered before? Try some of these...

Sometimes, we figure, you come to a site like this just to find out about a film you didn’t know about. That you want recommendations of movies that you might not otherwise have uncovered. This list, then, has no theme, save that the films on it are really good, and didn’t get much of an audience first time around. That, or they seem to have been forgotten. It’s a real mix, but hopefully, there’s something on here that appeals..

The Brady Bunch Movie

The Brady Bunch films never really seemed to do much business in the UK, and that’s a real pity. No foreknowledge of the series is required, and the first movie takes the Brady film and transplants them into 1990s America, with no »

20 Years Back: Celebrating the Cinematic Delights of 1997

12 August 2017 12:34 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Tom Jolliffe celebrates the cinematic delights of 1997…

1997. It doesn’t feel that distant but we’re now talking 20 years. This was the year I left school. That officially makes me old as fuck I believe. Lady Di passed, Tony Blair became Pm, Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule, Mike Tyson had a Holyfield Ear pie and more. The Spice Girls reigned supreme. Hanson were Mmmbopping all over the place and confusing horny teenagers who thought the girl singing lead was hot.

In film, the year is significant. This was the year the Titanic did the opposite of sink (erm… float). James Cameron’s historical (which icebergs aside wasn’t that historical) epic was seen by pretty much everyone on Earth. It probably grossed a further Trillion Wibblewangs outside the Milky Way (I just invented an alien currency). It thundered away as the highest grossing film ever (if you don’t »

We Bet You Don't Know John Legend's Real Name

11 August 2017 10:35 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Have you ever wondered how some celebrities get their names? Some stars are given names from their parents that scream "super star," like January Jones (sounds like a superhero, right?) and Pierce Brosnan (so Hollywood). Others change their names along the way for more pizazz like, Lana Del Ray (born Elizabeth Grant) or Emma Stone (born Emily Jean Stone). The biggest surprise however is when you learn that one of your favorite celebrity's real name is Not the name you've known them as . . . like John Legend. While John Legend sounded like a made-up name the first time we heard it - come on, whose last name is actually as cool and as fitting as Legend? - we eventually came to believe that the "Love Me Now" singer was in fact given that name from the start, but we were wrong! John's birth name is actually John Roger Stephens, and if we're being technical here, »

Marc Webb has always had a special connection with the location he is exploring in films. Needless to say that in his latest, The Only Living Boy In New York, the city is just as much a part of the story as the boy in question. The film stars Callum Turner as a young man who realizes his father is having an affair.. Things get all the more complicated when he himself gets involved with his father's lover. 'The Only Living Boy in New York' Review: Weak Riff on 'The Graduate' Is a Waste

10 August 2017 7:51 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Marc Webb, who directed one of my all-time favorite rom-coms, (500) Days of Summer, gets it all wrong this time with The Only Living Boy in New York. How do major misfires like this happen? Blame the screenwriter. Summer showed the light touch of Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber; Boy is credited to writer Allan Loeb, whose growing rap sheet includes the excruciating Collateral Beauty and The Space Between Us. Even the best actors – and this coming-of-age movie boasts a handful of them – can't fight this much tin-eared dialogue.

‘Only Living Boy in New York’: Marc Webb Says He Needed to Direct Something on a Smaller Scale After ‘Spider-Man’

8 August 2017 10:21 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

At Monday night’s New York premiere of the indie drama “The Only Living Boy in New York,” which took place at the Museum of Modern Art, the film’s director, Marc Webb, told Variety that after working on “The Amazing Spider-Man” and its sequel, he was happy to take a break and helm something on a smaller scale. Though, “if they’ll have me, I’ll return to doing bigger movies in the future.”

He then elaborated on the need for a change. “I needed a little bit of that after the ‘Spider-Man’ thing, where there’s so many expectations,” he said. “This was really fun to make, and low stress. It was a bunch of people in a room messing around, having a lot of fun.”

The premiere was held by Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions, and Webb said he appreciates that Amazon lets their movies have a theatrical run before they hit the Amazon »

Cable Is Finally Ready For His Close-Up In Latest Deadpool 2 Still

“We all have that one, grumpy, heavily-armed Uncle from the future.”

One week after unveiling Zazie Beetz’s Domino to the world, Ryan Reynolds has gone ahead and shared our first peek at Josh Brolin’s Cable as he’ll appear in Deadpool 2.

Sporting a cropped haircut and that signature cyborg eye, the Avengers: Infinity War actor certainly looks the part, and though 20th Century Fox seemingly searched far and wide to find their Nathan Summers – Pierce Brosnan, Kyle Chandler, Stephen Lang, Michael Shannon, and Hellboy actor David Harbour were all reportedly in contention at one stage or another – director David Leitch has gone on record to say that he “couldn’t be happier” with the addition of Josh Brolin. And that’s despite some ardent comic book fans taking issue with the actor playing Cable along with Thanos for Marvel’s upcoming Infinity War.

Few would argue that the likes of Shannon, »
