This summer, "E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial" turns 30 years old. One of the most iconic films in history, Steven Spielberg's 1982 classic tells the story of a young boy named Elliott (Henry Thomas) and an alien who's been stranded on Earth. Eventually, he and his little sister, Gertie (played by the cherubic Drew Barrymore), befriend the creature and name him E.T., hiding him from their mother and returning him home. While the famous flick has its fair share of iconic scenes, none is more recognizable than the moment Elliott bikes through the park with E.T., launching into the air and flying across the night sky. While it's (sadly) not possible to experience this type of travel, you can visit the park -- Porter Ranch, located in Northridge Los Angeles -- where that scene, along with several of the movie's other famous moments, were filmed. Location as Character: The 1982 classic owes »

After several decades stuck in development hell, the plans to turn John Kennedy Toole’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel "A Confederacy of Dunces" may finally have a chance at Paramount Pictures says Vulture.
Set in New Orleans in the early 1960s, the story follows an educated but slothful 30-year-old man living with his mother who must set out to get a job. In his quest for employment he has various adventures with colorful French Quarter characters.
The latest names attached to the project are "The Muppets" director James Bobin, "Cedar Rapids" scribe Phil Johnston and "The Hangover" actor Zach Galifianakis who're in either negotiations or are already attached to the project in those capacities. Scott Rudin is already set to produce.
Amongst the famous names to have been attached over the years are actors like John Belushi, John Candy, Richard Pryor, Chris Farley, John Goodman, Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, Alan Cumming, »

When you talk dream projects that you wish could become resurrected -- something we do for shits and giggles from time to time -- very high on our list is John Kennedy Toole's posthumously-published, picaresque novel "A Confederacy of Dunces" (published in 1980, eleven years after the author's suicide at the age of 32). Steven Soderbergh and Scott Kramer (producer for "The Limey") wrote a screenplay in the late '90s (we still have a copy lying around somewhere) and in the early aughts, they attached David Gordon Green to direct circa "Undertow," and names like Will Ferrell, Mos Def, and Drew Barrymore circulated for the lead roles (Barrymore would have co-produced).
But as Green told MTV in 2004, "There were too many cooks involved, too many producers [and] the egos of a lot of people." It didn't help that Soderbergh and producer Scott Rudin got involved in a nasty lawsuit over the project. »

When a Stranger Calls isn’t quite as stupid as Sleepaway Camp but it comes pretty close. The budget is low, the acting is somewhat ropey, and the dialogue drips with cheese. However, while you’re chortling at the stilted delivery and incongruous sound effects, you may find that the atmosphere slowly creeps up on you until you are forced to check under the bed for bogeymen. For all its faults, it has been highly influential – Wes Craven effectively pinched the whole concept for the iconic Drew Barrymore scene in Scream.
Based on an urban legend from the days when they were known as “folk tales,” the story begins with teenage babysitter Jill (Carol Kane) receiving a series of phone calls during the course of her evening’s duties. The anonymous stranger asks ”Have you checked the children?” and it seems that he is watching her every move. Police initially »

The couple were in town to promote the actress's wine, Barrymore Pinot Grigio, at the annual Nantucket Wine Festival, according to the Boston Herald. (The pregnant Barrymore, 37, presumably did not indulge.) Barrymore's wine, which reportedly boasts "hints of fresh apricot and lively citrus flavors," is being sold in New York for $20 a bottle. - Liz Raftery »

Proving once again that the entertainment industry is loath to take a chance on something new when something passable already exists, the 1998 Drew Barrymore-as-Cinderella movie Ever After is set to become a Broadway musical. The play will make its New York debut for the 2013-14 season. Days after celebrating their twins' birthdays - in Paris, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon arrived hand-in-hand at the Opera Gallery in N.Y.C. for an arty fundraiser.
