Is 2013 Really About to Break Historical Box-Office Record? Think Again.

30 December 2013 4:48 PM, PST | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

2013 domestic box office record: History is made (once again) — if you pretend inflation doesn’t exist (photo: 2013 North American box office no. 1 movie, ‘Iron Man 3,’ with Robert Downey Jr.) Even though Will Ferrell’s comedy Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and the latest Martin Scorsese-Leonardo DiCaprio collaboration, The Wolf of Wall Street, have opened more modestly than expected, while the Justin Bieber concert movie Believe has been totally discredited, the 2013 Christmas and New Year’s season has been quite strong at the domestic box office. According to Variety, figures are up 10% compared to 2012, while the total 2013 box office tally up to December 29 is a mere $1.6 million lower than the $10.837 billion record set last year. Does this latest record-breaking box office news sound too good to be true? Well, perhaps that’s because it is (too good to be true). See, Thor and Loki and Bilbo and Katniss »

Trailer Trashing - The Expendables 3

25 December 2013 8:46 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Oliver Davis reviews The Expendables 3... based entirely on the film's 50 second teaser trailer.

In a radical departure from the action movie franchise's usual tone, The Expendables' third installment ventures into comedy drama genre when everyone's favourite gang of aging bodybuilders are faced with the closure of their beloved aircraft hangar, where they meet to watch television, drink Bud Limes and plot 'one last mission(s).'

Even the revenge business isn't safe from the recession. After our heroes miss yet another rent payment on their Canadair Cl-215 amphibious flying boat, and the law suits from dispatched henchmen's families begin to stack up, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) and Co. have two choices: raise $2 million by the end of the month, or face losing the only place where they can safely hang out and store a number of dangerous firearms.

There's only one way they can raise that money in such little time. »

Expendables 3 Teaser Trailer Arrives

20 December 2013 2:37 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

What do you want when you settle down to watch an Expendables film? Is it lots of Sly and his aging action pack (plus one or two youngsters) blasting bad guys, cracking sort-of wise and bonding over difficult missions? If the answer is yes, you might be excited to watch the teaser trailer for the latest outing, Expendables 3. You will likely be disappointed, however, since the teaser is simply a shot of Sly and co walking away from the camera in a hanger, before turning, catwalk model-style to face us as their names appear. It’s not exactly the most exciting first look at the gang, but compared to yesterday’s fake trailer, at least this one represents the film.Stallone this time is joined by veterans Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger plus new (well, to the franchise) faces Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, »
