Catalog From The Beyond: Stir Of Echoes (1999)

2 hours ago | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

A lot of well-known actors get their start in low-budget horror flicks, but Kevin Bacon happened to cut his teeth in one of the most well-known horror movies of all time, Friday the 13th. Few actors star in a classic horror movie out of the gate and then find mainstream success on their own the way Bacon did. He doesn’t often wax nostalgic about his time at Camp Crystal Lake, although that seems less because he feels above it than it does that it was thirty-seven years and almost eighty roles ago.

Friday fans (like yours truly) will always remember him as Jack, the likeable guy who ended the summer of 1980 with one hell of a sore throat, but it’s important to remember that he also has some other phenomenal genre work to his credit. One such film didn’t have me expecting much at first, but by »

Comedy Actor Roundtable: Kevin Bacon, Kumail Nanjiani and More on Typecasting and Not Being "F—able"

9 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter - TV News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - TV News news »

Ask a table full of comedy actors to reveal the most embarrassing thing that’s happened to them on the job, and you’ll see grown men devolve into a gaggle of schoolboys. At least that’s what went down at THR’s roundtable on April 30: Three of the stars gathered on a Hollywood soundstage — William H. Macy, 67; Kevin Bacon, 58; and Anthony Anderson, 46 — told tales of passing gas midperformance; another, Ted Danson, 69, recalled an ill-timed belch; and Atlanta breakout Brian Tyree Henry, 35, dished on something called “ball smoke,” which required an explanation that left at least »

Watch the trailer for Andy Samberg’s mockumentary Tour de Pharmacy

20 May 2017 1:55 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

HBO and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and Saturday Night Live veteran Andy Samberg will be tackling the world of performance-enhancing drugs in the comedic Tour de Pharmacy, a mockumentary about the “dark and fictitious time in cycling history”: the 1982 Tour de France where everyone, apparently, was doping on drugs to win the race. Watch the trailer here…

In 1982, the sport’s most venerable, time-honored race was marred by the doping of virtually all of its competitors. Riddled with nefarious characters, that year’s competition was a hornet’s nest of moral depravity. Through the perspective of five riders, Tour de Pharmacy gives an inside look into the grim realities of the darkest event in a sport notoriously tainted by controversy.

The 50-minute comedy special was written by GirlsMurray Miller and is executive produced by Miller and Samberg. Joining Samberg in the film is a host of talent, such as John Cena, »

Kevin Bacon: ‘I thought I'd be sent to the TV graveyard’

20 May 2017 1:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Footloose made him a movie star – but now he’s coming around to the joys of the small screen. Kevin Bacon talks marriage, falling victim to Bernie Madoff, and I Love Dick

Everyone knows the shtick about Kevin Bacon. You know, the theory that anyone in the entertainment business can be connected to him by, at most, six removes: the Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon. So, to take an actor at random, Dolly Parton: Parton voiced the animated film Gnomeo And Juliet along with James McAvoy, who starred in 2011’s X-Men: First Class, in which Bacon played the bad guy. It works even with actors from previous generations, such as, say, Gene Kelly: Kelly directed 1967’s A Guide For The Married Man with Walter Matthau, who appeared in JFK, in which Bacon played a crooked gay hustler.

This game has been entertaining film nerds and stoned students for more than 20 years, »

I Love Dick Review – The Art And Longing Revolution Is Fueled By Fear And Loathing

17 May 2017 10:48 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Amazon‘s I Love Dick, much like the Chris Kraus novel from ’97, is often brilliant, and at the very least explores life and love with a degree of honesty that is practically taboo, but suffers from a prison of perspective similar to the one it calls out itself in relation to women filmmakers. Just as Chris (Kathryn Hahn) drives herself down a rabbit hole involving the ability of women to make films when they have to make them as people who grew up suffering from society’s oppression, I Love Dick struggles to deconstruct relationships, longing, self-worth, self-actualization, and so much more from, and by way of, the perspectives of people who think readymades are art and an in-depth analysis of some truly odd porn is deep thought.

There is much to love in the adaptation, especially Hahn’s charismatic aplomb, but there’s little to take away in the end, »

From I Love Dick to Louie: can TV shows help people understand art?

17 May 2017 3:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

I Love Dick doubles as a stealth art history lesson and joins a very select list of TV shows that get close to capturing what art and artists are all about

The second episode of Jill Soloway’s latest series, I Love Dick, opens with a clip of protagonist Chris Kraus’s (Kathryn Hahn) art film. It is terrible: cliché chauvinist kink in black and white. “I’m sure there’s an audience for this kind of stuff,” says Dick (Kevin Bacon), a hunky art instructor at the local institute. “I’m just not it.” But Dick’s work isn’t all that hot, either. It is, literally, a store-bought brick on a plinth.

TV Review: ‘I Love Dick’ on Amazon Starring Kevin Bacon, Kathryn Hahn

11 May 2017 8:38 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

I Love Dick” is a spiky, ambitious, open-hearted, and occasionally exhausting exploration of many things. There’s a lot going on inside each episode, and if the dizzying array of ideas is almost too much to grapple with at times, its greatest heights are worth the sometimes jagged ride.

At the core of “I Love Dick” are lively thoughts, theories, and questions about the genesis of creativity and the nature of female desire, and it’s also intensely interested in how those things co-exist, feed each other, and come into conflict. The show also plays around with the limits and attractions of traditional gender roles, the challenges of being in a committed relationship, and the importance (or lack thereof) of modern art, as well as ideas about connection, oppression, and how identities and energies can be co-opted or harnessed. And this roster of concepts just scratches the surface of what the show delves into in its eight »
