“My face does not suit serious acting!” – Johny Lever

5 May 2012 11:39 AM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

Johny Lever has been making audiences laugh for almost three decades now and has worked with all the major stars of Indian cinema, outlasting many of them in the process. At 50 plus, he is still going strong and was last seen in this year’s smash-hit comedy Housefull 2. He is currently in London on tour with his new show ‘Laugh till you fart’, where Bollyspice managed to catch up him, in what was an animated performance which still has us laughing!

Can you tell us about your show?

This show is a little like Housefull 2, but there the director asked you to leave your brains at home, here I’m asking to bring your brains with you and hopefully you will have more fun going home, than coming to the show! It is a three hour show, where you will be laughing continuously. I’ll try my best! »

Thn’s Top 10 Disney Movies: Part 2

5 May 2012 3:07 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

To celebrate the release of the legendary Beauty And The Beast in 3D, Thn is taking a look back at the very best Disney films of all time. To appease the purists, we have omitted any joint productions with Pixar (we need to give the others a fighting chance, after all). There is a multitude of cinematic greats in The House of Mouse, and we have found the diamonds in the rough. Numbers 10 – 6 can be found here, below you will find the top five.

So why don’t you just ruminate, whilst we illuminate the possibilities.

5. Beauty And The Beast  (1991)

Here it is. The movie whose return to the cinema we are celebrating at Thn. It will no doubt dazzle in 3D but even with a mere two dimensions, it is a magically romantic spectacle. We all know the story, let’s get down to what makes it so glorious. »

Universal 100 – London Location Tour

30 April 2012 8:46 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

As a man who spends most of his time in dark rooms, staring at a screen and ignoring the people around him, it would be unfair for me to pretend I’m some sort of expert on social convention. That said, I think it would be fair to describe the atmosphere as a little awkward, as our sizeable group of journalists, publicists and tour guides was confronted by the chap whose house we’d been photographing.

We’d been on a tour of locations used by Universal Studios films, and this startlingly pink house, our fourth stop of the day, featured briefly in Love Actually as the home of Kiera Knightly’s character. It seemed like as good a place to stop as any just minutes before, but now, as our tour guide explained the significance of the property to the oblivious, and somewhat confused homeowner, I began to doubt that, »

Why we're watching… Aneurin Barnard, 24, actor

14 April 2012 4:06 PM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The star of the Tim Burton-esque horror movie Elfie Hopkins could be the next Richard Burton

Wow, he's dreamy. Yes! Yes he is. But that's not why we're watching him. We don't want to run our fingers through his hair/find him at all sexy.

What's his talent? He's film poster boy of the year, starring opposite Jaime Winstone in Elfie Hopkins, a "quirky Tim Burton-esque horror". Then there's Citadel, which just won big at the South By Southwest festival; and Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes (with Alfred Molina and Jessica Biel).

How do you pronounce his name? A-nigh-rin. With a roll of the tongue on the "R" if you're from the Welsh Valleys.

So he's a Valley Boy? Yep, he's from the Ogmore Valley, near Bridgend. He's the son of a retired coal miner and a mum who works as a "factory girl". "Until," he says, »

Gervais Hits Back At Derek Critics

9 April 2012 9:01 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Ricky Gervais has defended his new TV show Derek over concerns the sitcom mocks those with learning difficulties.

The British funnyman plays the title role in the series, which is billed as the story of "a simple, vulnerable man working in an old people's home".

The show is yet to be broadcast but Gervais has already been forced to address critics who claim the comedy makes light of the mentally disabled, insisting the character does not have a "specific and defined disability".

Gervais says, "Derek is a fictional character and is defined by his creator, me. If I say I don't mean him to be disabled then that's it. A fictional doctor can't come along and prove me wrong.

"He's different. But then so are a lot of people. He's not the smartest tool in the box but he's cleverer than Father Dougal (from Irish sitcom Father Ted), and not as different as (Rowan Atkinson's comedy creation) Mr. Bean. He's based on those people you meet who are on the margins of society. Nerds, loners, underachievers."

Gervais previously came under fire from disability rights campaigners for using the word "mong" - a term which can be used to refer to people with Down's Syndrome - in his Science stand-up show and in a post on his Twitter.com page.

Derek will debut in the U.K. on Thursday. »

James Bond Clip To Be Crowbarred Into Opening Ceremonies

4 April 2012 12:58 AM, PDT | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

It must be a bummer trying to assemble an Olympic Opening Ceremony after the frontal-lobe melting spectacle put on for the Beijing Games of 2008.  I’m thinking something along the lines of how Pete Townshend probably felt sitting sidestage at Monterey while Jimi Hendrix inserted about nine hundred extra notes into the opening riff of “Hard Time Killing Floor,” just a few feet away.

How do you follow that?  If you’re the Jimmy Page performance helping to introduce London as the 2012 host, you probably don’t.  Remember when they tossed Pagey up on top of a double decker bus with Leona Lewis for a bit of “Whole Lotta Love”?  Well, if you don’t, you’re not gonna see it here.  Reading is boring enough.

Luckily, enough time has passed for the UK to gather together its finest creative minds so that they might really knock it out of the park, »

On The Rise 2012: 10 Actors We're Tipping For Stardom In The Future

29 March 2012 12:30 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Last week, we took a look at the relative dearth of leading men in Hollywood: why Tom Cruise, Will Smith, et al. remain at the top of the tree and why so few serious competitors have emerged since. But one of the most exciting things about our job is getting to watch the new names that emerge, breakouts who have the potential to join the A-listers, or at the very least, deliver a host of hugely exciting performances for decades to come.

So we've decided to kick off our On The Rise selection for 2012 by looking at some of the actors who we're tipping for big things in the next few years. Last time we made these kinds of picks and predictions we did pretty well, listing the likes of Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez, Jason Sudeikis, Adam Scott, Jake Johnson and David Oyelowo who have all gone on to become much-sought-after names, »

Blu-ray Review: ‘Johnny English Reborn’ Fails to Realize Comic Potential

7 March 2012 6:07 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Just as every country desires to have its own take on “The Office,” every country needs its own Clouseau. The sheer number of bumbling detectives in cinema are too vast to count, though a few deserve to stand out, such as Jean Dujardin’s suavely clueless Oss 117. Johnny English, on the other hand, deserves to be placed at the back of the crowd, in between Steve Martin and Roberto Benigni.

English is played by Rowan Atkinson, a comedic giant whose tremendous success on television has been difficult to repeat on the big screen. His most popular character, Mr. Bean, may be a crowd-pleaser on the small screen, but his grotesquely broad antics are rather tiresome to sit through in a full-length feature. In contrast, English is a far more tolerable character, yet his vehicles have fallen short of true comic inspiration. “Johnny English Reborn” is an improvement over its 2003 predecessor, »

Mr Bean likes his 20m Facebook fans | Media Monkey

5 March 2012 8:36 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Status update: looking generally confused. Rowan Atkinson's Mr Bean has celebrated the not insignificant milestone of more than 20 million fans on Facebook. Aka twice as many as Top Gear. And to think, they only ever made 14 half-hour episodes. And two films. And a packet of biscuits (in a deal with Dutch company Verkade, since you ask). That really takes the biscuit. And not to be confused with this Mr Bean biscuit, presumably. Anyway, 20 million fans, eh?

This Week in Blu-ray: Top Gear, Hugo, Mandrill and Johnny English Reborn

29 February 2012 8:00 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Tonight! We visit in with some of our favorite whacky Brits as they power through the seventeenth season of one of the greatest reality television programs in the history of time, space and everything else. We explore a historic, beautiful look at cinema’s start through the eyes of contemporary film’s biggest nerd. We watch a 9-foot tall man roundhouse kick an entire country. And we watch Rowan Atkinson continue to spit in the face of reason, churning out more laughs. Also, James May talks to a gurrrl. Top Gear: The Complete Season 17 If you are anything like me, then you’ve never really been much of a gear head or a car freak. That’s okay, we’re simply the kind of people who would rather be in the living room watching a movie than in the garage tinkering around with engine parts. That said, there’s nothing more magnetic to me than the »

Moviefone's Pick of the Week "Hugo" What's It About? Martin Scorsese tries his hand at family films with this adaptation of the award-winning children's book. Hugo Cabret is an orphaned boy who lives out of a train station in 1930s Paris; by day he works as the station's clocksmith, by night he tries to solve the mystery that connects his departed father to a broken toy robot. Soon he is swept up in an adventure involving a mean old shopkeeper (Ben Kingsley) and lost pieces of film history. See It Because: It's a gorgeous, heart-warming, one-of-a-kind movie. Every detail -- from the snow-covered skyline of Paris to the recreation of landmark moments in silent film -- pop with excitement and beauty. We struggle to find the words that can describe this movie appropriately; Scorsese's technical craftsmanship and passion for film history are a surprising perfect fit for this sweet, whimsical »

'Hugo' Leads The Week's New DVD and Blu-ray Releases

28 February 2012 8:13 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Hugo Paramount obviously timed the release of Hugo on DVD and Blu-ray to coincide with the Oscars and I would bet anything that, about midway through Sunday night's show, some of the folks over there were thinking, "Hey, we might be able to take home Best Picture if it continues at this rate." Well, Hugo didn't win Best Picture, but it did manage to get some people interested and asking, "What is Hugo?" I noticed an increase in visits to the Hugo page here on the site. And to have the film hitting DVD and Blu-ray in the midst of that interest certainly doesn't hurt.

As for the film itself, I'm not as big a fan as some out there. I know some people simply adore this movie while others are just sort of down the middle on it. I fall in the latter category, but one thing is sure, »

What to Rent: New DVDs This Week

Hugo Director Martin Scorsese tells the story of a young orphan who is secretly living in a train station in Paris. When he makes a friend (Chloe Moretz), they uncover a fantastical secret about her grandfather (Ben Kingsley). Hugo is definitely a more family friendly Scorsese film, but it reflects the same stunning technical elements we associate with the director. Hugo earned attention all award season, ultimately taking home five Oscars this week. One of the extras you can look forward to is a featurette about Georges Méliès's life, included on both the DVD and Blu-ray. 93% Johnny English Reborn Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson) has been fine-tuning his unique set of spy skills off in a remote region of Asia, until a major issue erupts in China, and the goofy spy is called to return to action. The ‘Johnny English Reborn’ Drinking Game

28 February 2012 4:43 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

It’s been almost a decade since the first Johnny English movie tore up the box office internationally and fizzled on American soil. But with that international success, it was inevitable there would be a sequel. Though, the spy film genre has changed with the Bourne films and James Bond reboot redefining its style, as well as the spy spoof movies (including the first Johnny English and the entire Austin Powers franchise) a thing of the past. That didn’t stop Rowan Atkinson from reprising his role as bumbling Mi-7 agent Johnny English in the sequel Johnny English Reborn, which had similar success overseas and similar failure here in the U.S. Still, fans of Atkinson’s comedy should enjoy this new installment in the series. And for those who aren’t sure if they’ll enjoy it, try watching it with a martini, shaken, not stirred. And now, to cover our butts… This »
