From 21 Jump Street to Baywatch and CHiPs: how Hollywood remade the remake

16 February 2017 9:45 AM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The new wave of 80s TV remakes delights in an ironic self-awareness – but when every recognisable brand has been plundered, what next for Hollywood’s directors?

The early 1990s were glory days for the pubescent male. And, by extension, grand times for the stars of Baywatch: Pamela Anderson, with her awestruck army of admirers; David Hasselhoff, his career bounding off into a sunset of irony, lasting far longer than anyone could have imagined.

But no one expected, 25 years later, to be betting on Baywatch for a second time. When news of the film remake broke, predicting its tack seemed easy: red swimwear stretched over wanly-cast reprisals of characters that were pretty wan to start with; some skimpy something’s-rotten-in-the-state-of-California plotline; possibly Hoff and Pamela cameos, too. The new version has all these things, but the trailer was still an upbeat surprise. With The Rock and Zac Efron’s bromance game looking strong, »

'Playboy' Brings Nudity Back to the Magazine After a Year-Long Ban on Naked Pictorials

13 February 2017 4:50 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

After one year of non-nude issues, Playboy is bringing naked photographs back to the magazine.

The move was announced by Chief Creative Officer Cooper Hefner on Monday.

Watch: 'Playboy' Magazine to Stop Publishing Nude Photos

"I'll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake," Hefner tweeted.

Hugh Hefner's 25-year-old son provided further explanation in an article published to the Playboy website. In it, Cooper gives a history lesson about the origins of Playboy, which was founded by his father 63 years ago.

"Underneath the brand's pop culture elements, which most frequently floated to the surface of newsworthy over everything else, it was clear my dad's aim when launching Playboy was to promote a healthy conversation about sex while also encouraging dialogue on social, philosophical and religious opinions," he wrote. "The idea behind the magazine was that while these topics were popular in people's »

First Trailer for 'The Institute' Thriller with James Franco & Lori Singer

7 February 2017 4:01 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"I assure you, our dear Isabella is in safe hands." Momentum Pictures has debuted the first trailer for a thriller titled The Institute, co-directed by James Franco and Pamela Romanowsky. Franco also stars in the film as one of the doctors at the "institute". Set in the 19th century, the story is about a young girl who checks into the Rosewood Institute, only to discover their methods for curing patients are totally twisted and violent. In addition to Franco, the film stars Allie Gallerani, Lori Singer, Tim Blake Nelson, Eric Roberts, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace, Pamela Anderson, Beth Grant, and Dominic Rains. I'm intrigued to see Franco directing a 19th century thriller, but this just looks instantly forgettable. Take a look. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Franco & Romanowsky's The Institute, originally from EW: In 19th century Baltimore, a girl stricken with grief from her parents' untimely death, voluntarily »

Pamela Anderson has never been shy about showing off her body throughout her career, and says she’s actually gotten more comfortable being undressed over time.

“I’m fairly comfortable in my skin,” the actress, 49, told Refinery29. “I love being a woman — soft, feminine, open. I do the best I can. I feel much more in control these days. I rely less on what others tell me. No matter what we look like, sexy comes from within.”

The beach is back in Baywatch Super Bowl TV spot

6 February 2017 12:20 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Paramount released a new TV spot for the Baywatch reboot during last night’s Super Bowl. The quick 30 second teaser maintains the spirit of the first official full trailer by presenting the tone as inspired by the meta humor stuffed in the highly successful modern-day Jump Street movies. Check it out here…

Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Zac Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.

Baywatch is set for release on May 19th 2017 sees Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) directing a cast that includes Dwayne Johnson (Fast & Furious 7), Zac Efron (Dirty Grandpa), Alexandra Daddario (San Andreas), Kelly Rohrbach (Two and a Half Men), Priyanka Chopra (Quantico), Jon Bass (Big Tim in Hollywood, Fl), Hannibal Buress (Daddy’s Home), Belinda (The Cheetah Girls 2) and Ilfenesh Hadera (Billions). Super Bowl Spot for 'Baywatch' Starring Dwayne Johnson & Zac Efron

5 February 2017 9:03 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"While you're watching the game, they are watching the bay." Paramount has debuted a Super Bowl TV spot for the summer comedy version of Baywatch, the movie, from director Seth Gordon. This is a fairly tame TV spot, just selling all the attractive guys and girls that are in this more than anything. Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson play two Baywatch lifeguards; also starring Alexandra Daddario, Priyanka Chopra, Pamela Anderson, Ilfenesh Hadera, Charlotte McKinney, Kelly Rohrbach, Hannibal Buress, plus of course David Hasselhoff. I'm still hoping this turns out okay, but this TV spot is not an impressive sell for this movie. You have to take a look at this anyway just because it stars Dwayne Johnson. Here's the new Super Bowl TV spot for Seth Gordon's Baywatch movie, direct from YouTube: You can still watch the first official trailer for Baywatch here, to see even more footage from this. »

Baywatch Super Bowl Spot: While You’re Watching The Game, They’re Watching The Bay

5 February 2017 7:15 PM, PST | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

While one could argue that Hollywood is a bit overly-obsessed with prequels, sequels, and reboots, one has to appreciate some of the liberal uses of some of the licenses they picked up. Perhaps the most interesting one in recent memory came in the form of the 21 Jump Street films, which was only Jump Street in name.

The producers of Baywatch have gone and taken that very same approach and applied it to Baywatch. In no way does this movie look like '90s show on which it is based (for the better), but it certainly looks like a lot of fun.

Take a look at the Baywatch spot down below!

The synopsis of Baywatch is as follows:

Baywatch follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.”

Watch Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron in ‘Baywatch’ Super Bowl Trailer

5 February 2017 6:18 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A new set of ultra-toned lifeguards will be hitting the beaches of Los Angeles this summer.

The latest trailer for “Baywatch,” the film adaptation of the hit 1990’s television series, was released Sunday afternoon during the Super Bowl on Fox.

Baywatch’ Stars: Then and Now (Photos)

In the film, Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), a forthright veteran lifeguard, goes head-to-head with a rash recruit named Matt Brody (Zac Efron). When the two discover that a criminal plot is in the works that is threatening their beach, they are forced to put aside their differences.

In the Super Bowl spot, they get into gear… very revealing gear, that is. When Efron tears off his pants to unleash an American flag-themed bathing suit, Johnson asks him, “What are you wearing?” Efron quickly answers, “Freedom.”

The film also stars Priyanka Chopra, who plays the lead antagonist of the film, along with Kelly Rohrbach playing C. »

Baywatch Super Bowl Spot Brings Us Back to the Beach

5 February 2017 5:35 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

This year, moviegoers will be getting two movies that started out as successful TV shows that have been converted into R-rated comedies. Warner Bros. has CHiPs, which looks to be a whole lot of action and a whole lot of sex jokes. Whereas Paramount Pictures has their new take on Baywatch, which looks to also have a lot of action and sex jokes, but they have The Rock and a bunch of good looking people in swimsuits on their side. That gave them the confidence to drop some big money and release a new trailer for Baywatch during the Super Bowl.

Dwayne Johnson teased the brand new trailer would be airing during the big game on his Instagram yesterday. In his post, he joked about the fact that he was the only guy wearing sneakers on the beach, but also that he has two trailers airing during the Super Bowl this year, »

Sundance Film Review: ‘This Is Everything: Gigi Gorgeous’

31 January 2017 5:40 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Gender transition processes are, understandably, of intense interest to those going through them. But at a time when the subject has been portrayed in so many nonfiction and narrative forms, the question arises: Lacking a compelling central narrative, are they inherently compelling to everyone else? Maybe not.

Directed by esteemed documentarian Barbara Kopple, “This Is Everything” profiles changes, bodily and otherwise, in the still-young life of a YouTube star who began attracting a following in that medium a decade ago, when she was Gregory. Now, Gigi Gorgeous is a celebrity and an Lgbtq role model — albeit one very much for the age of selfies, reality TV, and “branding”; in that she appears to be all shiny surface, with no ideas or message more complicated than “Be yourself.” There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a beauty in the ultra-conventional mold of Pamela Anderson (or even Angelyne), but there’s »

Summer is coming in revealing Baywatch movie motion posters

Author: David Sztypuljak

What’s better than the multitude of posters released for the Baywatch movie released last week……? That’s right….. the same posters in motion form! Yesterday we had the same treat for Disney’s Beauty and the Beast but today it’s the turn of The Rock, Zac Efron and their co-stars to strut their funky stuff in their Baywatch getup!

The tone of this new movie seems to be very similar to what we’ve seen in the likes of similar reboots of 21 Jump Street with a theme mocking the original for its faults but equally embracing what made the shows so successful.
