Rick Famuyiwa In Talks To Direct Martial Arts Movie: Son of Shaolin

26 July 2017 11:50 AM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Martial arts movies are true guilty pleasures -- one of the more overlooked and undervalued of all the film genres. I was raised on a steady diet of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Sonny Chiba, and Chuck Norris films. Later, I got to know Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Jean Claude-Van Damme, Steven Seagal for -- for the better or (sometimes) worse. These amazing fighters led the way for more recent talents, like Tony Jaa and Iko Uwais.

The '70s and '80s were arguably The greatest decades of martial arts movies (Enter the Dragon, Drunken Master, The Octagon, Bloodsport)... sure, you had to squint at times to get past bad acting and absurd plots, but we reveled in the pure visceral insanity of two (or more) trained fighters going toe-to-toe. Karate vs. Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do vs. Muay Thai -- for martial arts junkies, it's incredible to watch »

That Time on 'Batman' When Alfred Fought the Joker

26 July 2017 9:38 AM, PDT | The Hollywood Reporter - TV News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - TV News news »

Alfred Pennyworth has always been vital to Bruce Wayne and Batman's success, both in the comics and onscreen.

The butler is father figure, a mentor and a trusted colleague.

And with it being made clear in the new Justice League trailer (which already has more than 23 million views on YouTube) that Jeremy Irons' incarnation will once again take a more hands-on role with Batman's adventures, it is time to look back at the heroics of the first live-action Alfred, played by Alan Napier.

Napier, who died in 1988 at the age 85, appeared as Alfred in all 120 »

The Flash: what a Flashpoint movie means for the Dceu

23 July 2017 10:17 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mike Cecchini Jul 27, 2017

The Flash movie is going to follow the Flashpoint story, and that makes perfect sense for the DC extended universe...

While much of the DC Entertainment portion of Warner Bros' Hall H presentation at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con focused on the next two movies on the Dceu slate, Justice League and Aquaman, one key detail about their other movies stood out. The Flash movie will be an adaptation of the famed Flashpoint comic book story.

For those who don't know, Flashpoint was a 2011 comic from Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert which saw Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent his mother's murder by Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash. As a result, a Butterfly Effect-esque 'flashpoint' causes the DC Universe to develop in a radically different way. But the roots of Flashpoint go even further back, to another Geoff Johns written Flash tale.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Teases Possibility Of Being Flashpoint’s Batman

23 July 2017 6:26 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When Zack Snyder enlisted Jeffrey Dean Morgan for a cameo role as Thomas Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, who would’ve thought that he’d just stumbled backwards into casting the perfect Dark(er) Knight for any eventual Flashpoint movie? I mean, lots of fans wished for such a thing and the memes have long been out there, but that didn’t mean any of us were prepared for the Flash’s solo movie to be rebranded as such this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con.

Naturally, anyone remotely familiar with the source material has since taken to the internet, all simultaneously concluding that Morgan playing an alternate take on Batman could finally be a reality. If this were to pan out, it would be quite the milestone because no character other than Bruce Wayne himself has yet to take up the mantle on the silver screen, despite »

Batfleck Forever! 8 Reasons Why Ben Affleck Is The Best Live-Action Batman

23 July 2017 2:51 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

We’d be lying if we said the rumors that Ben Affleck was hanging up the cape and cowl didn’t make us choke up a bit. We’ve only seen him as Batman in two films to date, but he’s left an indisputable positive impression and we’ve become big fans of his portrayal. For many, he’s the only interpretation of the Dark Knight that they’ll accept in the Dceu.

There’s no denying the two-time Oscar winner is a talented all-rounder, but his initial casting as the iconic Caped Crusader rattled the cages of many comic book fans. Not everyone was behind the idea of Batfleck due to the nightmarish flashbacks of 2003’s Daredevil, which was a fair-enough concern all things considered. After seeing his portrayal in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, though, it’s hard to imagine anyone else but him in the »

‘Gotham’ Sizzle Reel Finally Takes David Mazouz from Bruce Wayne to Batman

22 July 2017 6:13 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

The Season 4 debut of Gotham is just about two months away, but attendees to Comic-Con got an early look at the upcoming run of the Fox drama. A new sizzle reel, nearly 6 minutes in length, spends the majority of that time revisiting Bruce Wayne's (David Mazouz) journey in the title town after the deaths of his famous and fabulously wealthy parents. One of the main criticisms of Gotham has been the foot-dragging pace of getting Bruce to become Batman, so the good news is that it looks like the prequel might just be catching up … »

Will Flashpoint See Jeffrey Dean Morgan As Batman?

22 July 2017 4:47 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

When Warner Bros. took over the legendary Hall H at Comic-Con, fans around the world were eagerly awaiting new information – any new information at all – about the future slate of DC Extended Universe movies. In amongst teases of Aquaman, and the reveal of the new Justice League trailer, the biggest surprise came in the form of an overhaul for what was previously referred to as The Flash.

The production, which has been troubled to say the least, has not yet successfully got off the ground, and Warner Bros. announced an entirely new direction for the project – turning it into an adaptation of the Flashpoint arc from the comics. In it, The Flash uses his power to travel back in time and prevent the death of his mother, but in doing so, creates an entirely new timeline – in which the Wayne family meets a different fate.

Bruce Wayne’s Journey Continues As The Scarecrow Spreads Fear In Gotham Sdcc Trailer

22 July 2017 4:45 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Saying a lot happened this past season on Gotham is a massive understatement. Still, those who cut the trailer shown today at San Diego Comic-Con did their best to sum it up. Throughout the sizzle reel, we got to relive some of the finer points such as the rise of the Riddler, the return of Jerome Valeska and Bruce Wayne taking his first great strides toward becoming Batman.

On that note, it very much sounds like we can expect to see David Mazouz’s take on the timeless icon to continue dispensing street justice throughout the alleys of his home city in the coming year. There’s just one catch, however: Don’t expect him to take up cape and cowl anytime soon, something executive producer John Stephens touched on during the panel:

“In season four Bruce will have body armour, and have grappling hooks, and wear a mask, but he wont be Batman. »

DC's New Ongoing Title To Feature Duke Thomas Aka The Signal - Sdcc 2017

22 July 2017 4:20 PM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

The announcements continue to roll out for DC Comics during several of their panels here at San Diego Comic-Con. During their Dark Nights: Metal and Dark Matter panel they announced another new ongoing series coming soon featuring Duke Thomas called Batman: The Signal and it will be written by DC Talent Workshop alum Tony Patrick.

Duke Thomas had made his debut in DC Comics New 52 Batman #21 during an arc called Zero Year where he assisted Batman. Then during the arc called Endgame, the Joker kidnapped Duke's family and used them to try and recreate Bruce Wayne's parents' murder right in front of him. Batman managed to save Duke, but Duke's parents unfortunately were lost to the Joker's gas. Later he became part of the group of Robins during the time that Bruce Wayne was gone. When DC launched Rebirth Batman had returned and offered Duke a position, »

The Flash Movie Reported To Introduce Flashpoint - San Diego Comic-Con 2017

22 July 2017 2:40 PM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Today, at the San Diego Comic-Con, several logos were shown which would give the audience a general direction of the DC films. Much to the crowd's surprise, when The Flash came up it displayed a very well known (to comic readers) image of the Flashpoint logo. This has several ramifications, including the future of the Batman character.

If you do not know, in the comic, the animated film, or the CW version of Flashpoint, The Flash, basically against his own moral objections, went back into time and saved his mother from being killed by his arch-nemesis, the Reverse-Flash. Of course, this was actually The Reverse-Flash's plan all along, as he is a master of manipulation, and it set the future into a whole new setting, mainly where Barry Allen (The Flash) did not have powers.

Luckily, after trials and tribulations, Barry was able to get Batman's help, but this »

I know there's this misconception that because I'm not directing it, that maybe I wasn't enthusiastic about it. It's f*cking amazing! I still can't believe it after two films."

The Flash Solo Movie To Adapt Flashpoint Arc From The Comics

22 July 2017 1:08 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

We haven’t heard from the Dceu Flash solo movie in some time and, given its notorious rotating door of rumoured directors, this isn’t exactly surprising. But now, the studio is looking to put all that behind them and wipe the slate clean with an adaptation of the 2011 DC Comics event Flashpoint, which will also be the movie’s new title.

Conceived of and written by DC Entertainment President and veteran comic book writer Geoff Johns, the storyline involved Barry Allen’s Flash zipping back in time to prevent the death of his mother. I’m guessing he hasn’t seen, oh, I dunno Every Time Travel Movie Ever and learned that messing with time isn’t a great idea as, when he returned, everything was all screwed up. Go figure, right?

Newswire: Ben Affleck goes rumor-smashing, calls Batman “the greatest fucking part in the world”

22 July 2017 1:04 PM, PDT | | See recent The AV Club news »

Indirectly referencing rumors that have continued to plague his time as the Dark Knight—including sources from as recently as yesterday, which suggested that Warner Bros. was looking for a way to gracefully replace him in the role—Ben Affleck doubled down on his love for Batman at today’s Warner Bros. panel at Comic-Con. According to Coming Soon, Affleck called his role as Bruce Wayne and his gravel-throated alter-ego, “The greatest f--king part in the world,” adding, “I am thrilled to do it.” (He also praised The Batman director Matt Reeves, saying he’d be an “ape in the background” for one of Reeves’ Planet Of The Apes movies if the director asked.)

Possibly wanting to get in on this positivity party, Gal Gadot expressed similar affection for her own role as Wonder Woman. But, then, there haven’t been a bunch of news stories and question marks floating »

Ben Affleck Addresses Batman Concerns: ‘I Am The Luckiest Guy In The World’

22 July 2017 12:48 PM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Actor Ben Affleck certainly seems to be taking the world for a ride. For the longest time, he was rumored to be helming a standalone Batman film, and when it was finally officially announced, he only seemed to distance himself even further. All of a sudden, on the heels of the less than stellar reception of Batman v Superman, he seemed to be backpedaling.

Earlier this year, he stepped down as director of The Batman, and Matt Reeves took his place. But Affleck was still officially on board as Batman and Bruce Wayne. Earlier this week, we reported on a new rumor that Affleck was looking for a way out of the universe, and that DC was planning a way to go forward with The Batman without him.

Ben Affleck dismisses speculation over his Batman future

Yesterday it was reported that Warner Bros. is considering Ben Affleck’s future as Batman in the DC Extended Universe, suggesting that he would be unlikely to don the cape and cowl for The Batman, and that the studio was either looking to recast Bruce Wayne, or have another character take on the mantle of the Dark Knight.

Well, appearing at Warner Bros.’ DC panel today, Ben Affleck has seemingly dismissed the speculation about his future as the Dark Knight: “Let me be very clear. I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest fucking part in any universe, DC, Marvel. It’s incredible and I am so thrilled to do it.
