With the emergence of the world's first mutant, Apocalypse, the X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction level plan.

The Buzz: Eight movies in, the X-Men franchise is at a curious point in time; the first wave of mutants have been whittled down to appearances by Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, and Patrick Stewart, though Marvel seem reluctant to say farewell to them for good. The saga's timeline has been elastic but fans seem to be jumping forward and back without complaint, even if the new generation of mutants don't feel as iconic. And here, as Apocalypse enters the picture and Bryan Singer has stuck around the director's chair, there's a noticeable lack of enthusiasm for this installment, which is at risk of being the most undistinguished chapter since The Last Stand.

Alice returns to the whimsical world of Wonderland and travels back in time to save the Mad Hatter.

The Buzz: Welcome back, Alice? Seems to be a frosty reception awaiting Mia Wasikowska as she returns to Underland. Even with all the negative advanced buzz, we hear the movie truly looks spectacular - it's just a a lack of substance in its storytelling that overwrites the viewing experience. It will be interesting to see how audiences respond to this sequel initially as well as over time.

The Buzz: With his directorial debut, veteran stage and screen writer David Farr has earned more than one comparison to Roman Polanski for his ability to establish moods and create psychological nightmares. Definitely looks like The Ones Below is on the must-see list for the summer. We wonder what he has in the works?

An inside look at a West Hollywood cult formed by a charismatic teacher in the 1980s that eventually imploded.

The Buzz: I love reading the histories of Southern California cults (see also The Source Family) and know very little about The Buddhafield, the spiritual group of which director Will Allen was a member for two decades and where he served, among other roles, as its official videographer. The movie generated a lot of talk at Sundance not just because of its subject matter but because Allen, who was finalizing interviews up until the premiere, took an initial 'anonymous' credit for the project as not to jeopardize his on camera sitdowns with former members. - Arno

In the middle of the Aegean Sea, six men on a fishing trip on a luxury yacht decide to play a game. During this game, things will be compared. Things will be measured. Songs will be butchered, and blood will be tested. Friends will become rivals and rivals will become hungry. But at the end of the journey, when the game is over, the man who wins will be the best man. And he will wear on his smallest finger the victory ring: the Chevalier.

The Buzz: A female director examining the male ego? I'm in. Writer-director Athina Rachel Tsangari also made Attenberg, which co-starred Yorgos Lanthimos, director of Dogtooth and The Lobster. Tsangari's work flies under the radar compared to those of her contemporaries, though I love seeing that the movie won a few "Best Undistributed Film" festival awards before Strand Releasing picked it up. - Arno

A retrospective look at the life and work of influential electronic music DJ, Adam Goldstein, known as DJ AM.

The Buzz: Adam Goldstein had already lived quite a life before his relationship with Nicole Ritchie pushed him even further into the mainstream, where his lifelong issues with narcotics were plainly visible to anyone familiar with the signs of drug use. Very cool to see veteran skateboarding documentarian/music video director Kevin Kerslake at the helm here.
