Loved it, loved it, loved it. A very good BBC production and one of the best...apart from the 2005 film of the same name with Keira Knightly. If you have not see then production, you must do so. Though it may seem dated to many, the costume, the dances, good and even the location is absolutely wonderful. Detail in every piece of furniture, cutlery, etiquette, dancing, dialogue and drama...everything you can ask for a Regency drama. Obviously the production staff read the book and have made a real effort to stick the Jane Austen's masterpiece.

Sadly, now everytime I see Colin Firth on screen, I cannot help thing of Mr Darcy.

***Trivia*** Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle were reported to be lovers during the production. They also acted again in the 2010 film "The King's Speech."

I know many are screaming it doesn't belong in this time period; it's VICTORIAN, though it was published in 1855-1857, Dickens actually wrote the novel before Queen Victoria ascended to the Throne of England. It can be translatted into a Victorian drama. For me it is Regence due to the following: one other thing that is obvious that it's not victorian is the empire waist line dresses and two, the character Rigaud is French and it's mentions his past about the French war and the revolution.

This is a very, very good series. I quiet enjoyed it all, with the exception of one or two things. (1)The debts prison the cleanest I've ever seen (cleaner than my house), why leave? Surely the BBc could of "grubbed" it up a bit with dirt (2) some parts of the series were weaker than others. but what made it a great series is Andy Serkis as the villan Rigaud

Theatrical film of "Persuasion" with Ciaran Hinds and Amanda Root. Directed by Roger Michell.

    Date set: 1814
Placing the two movies of Persuasion 1995 and 2007. I, personally, preferred the 1995 production. I know there are a number of people who like the 2007 TV production with Rupert Penry-Jones and Sally Hawkins. There are three things that I did not like about it. (1) the use of modern terminology in the adaption. i.e.Mary Musgrove dialogue there is clear evidence about that. (2) Anne talking speak to the camera, very off putting. (3) the ending: did she have to be running all over Bath to find Wentworth. Technically she would be so hot, thirsty, sweaty, smelly and exhausted, a kiss would be the last thing on her mind when she finally bumped into him. Wentworth should of taken her out of the hot sun, sat her down and gave her a drink of water!
I was most fortunate to watch the 1995 Persuasion on the big screen and loved it. Some may disagree but I think this is the better production. WHY: the reasons are (1)Cast:The leading actors look the right age and they don't look modern or out of place. (2) the adaptation: it follows the book and there are numerous lines straight from the pages of the novel

This is one of the lesser known novels of Jane Austen. If you have not yet seen it, I suggest you do. It's not in the strata of Pride and Prejudice, however the characters are delightful; especially for avid adventure reading novels, Catherine Morland. Sadly it is predictable, but is well above average viewing.
