Beautifully shot, amazing performances even from the children. If you're a man you'll love this movie, if you're a women you'll most likely love this movie. A great romantic, war (at the last half) movie about childhood and the view on adulthood. Talks a little about seeing something you shouldn't and misconstruing what actually happened to your own benefit. Deals with the consequences too. Gorgeous setup of dunkirk that made me wish the movie Dunkirk did though both are entirely different movies in tone and atmosphere. I also like how the music set up with the typewriter, giving it a distinct feel. See this if you haven't, it can be easy to overlook fantastic movies like this one when the year has major successes

- DirectorEsteban SapirStarsAlejandro UrdapilletaValeria BertuccelliJulieta CardinaliThis near-silent black and white film from Argentina tells the story of a city that has lost its voice, stolen by Mr. TV, and the attempts of a small family to win the voice back. Similar in design to early German expressionist films.
- DirectorSidney LumetStarsPhilip Seymour HoffmanEthan HawkeAlbert FinneyWhen two brothers organize the robbery of their parents' jewelry store the job goes horribly wrong, triggering a series of events that sends them, their father and one brother's wife barreling towards a shattering climax.low8-high7/10, very tense and dramatic. Like a jenga tower waiting to collapse. The music is like winding down a staircase of unfolding events and very fitting and memorable. The acting is very real and the directing is from a professional. Just have problems with the editing at times at it's very dated and just suck me out of what is an awesome film. Despite that it's a very spectacular spread of events told nicely. Watch if you love crime thrillers or dramas. Up there with Zodiac, No Country in that regard.
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsThomas JaneMarcia Gay HardenLaurie HoldenA freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives.low8-high7/10, black and white version. That is the intended version and it shows turning it almost into a tongue and cheek 50's modern day horror. Mostly a well acted drama with followable characters. Again kind of toony but I think that adds rather than detracts besides a few bumps in the road.
- DirectorMichael MooreStarsMichael MooreTucker AlbrizziTony BennA documentary comparing the highly profitable American health care industry to other nations, and HMO horror stories including shotgun deaths.
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsOwen WilsonAdrien BrodyJason SchwartzmanA year after their father's funeral, three brothers travel across India by train in an attempt to bond with each other.
- DirectorStefan RuzowitzkyStarsKarl MarkovicsAugust DiehlDevid StriesowThe story of the Operation Bernhard, the largest counterfeiting operation in history, carried out by Germany during World War II.7/10, a great holocaust movie that goes into a different story than most. Well shot, amazing harmonica music, well acted and written. See this if you want a more feel good ending to a horrible chapter in history.
- DirectorJohn CarneyStarsGlen HansardMarkéta IrglováHugh WalshA modern-day musical about a busker and an immigrant and their eventful week in Dublin, as they write, rehearse and record songs that tell their love story.
- DirectorFrank OzStarsMatthew MacfadyenPeter DinklageEwen BremnerChaos ensues when a man tries to expose a dark secret regarding a recently deceased patriarch of a dysfunctional British family.7/10, hilarious dark and morbid movie but in a good way. One of the easiest movies on this list with much to appreciate especially from Alan Tudyk who plays a man high on lsd well and it's obvious he researched or experienced it himself. It's well written and paced decently and just a fun movie to watch with folks or friends. Pretty surface level but that's not a bad thing here. Just a few things that I can nitpick like some clitches and audience soundboard reactions. Watch this over the new one.
