The Power of the Moving Image and the Benefits of Hindsight
"No other medium has the power to impact the individual like the moving image, and it cannot be overstated the importance of documenting history through film. This invaluable resource is not only important to historians and other academics, but is also of vital importance to society as a whole. Used in conjunction with verified documentation and established facts, documentaries can act as an invaluable tool not only in educating ourselves to the human experience and historical context of the time, but also in arming ourselves with the necessary knowledge and empathy in preventing past tragedies from repeating in the future."

The Mind of Adolf Hitler: The Secret Wartime Report by Psychoanalyst Walter C. Langer
Wikipedia: Walter Charles Langer.
Wikipedia: The Mind of Adolf Hitler - The report made several predictions about Hitler's future which proved to be accurate:
As the war turns against him, his emotions will intensify and will have outbursts more frequently. His public appearances will become much rarer, because he's unable to face a critical audience.
There might be an assassination attempt on him by the German aristocracy, the Wehrmacht Officers or the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, because of his superhuman self-confidence in his military judgment.
There will be no surrender, capitulation, or peace negotiations. The course he will follow will almost certainly be the road to ideological immortality, resulting in the greatest vengeance on a world he despises.
From what we know of his psychology, the most likely possibility is that he will commit suicide in the event of defeat. It's probably true he has an inordinate fear of death, but possibly being a psychopath he would undoubtedly "screw himself up" into the superman character and perform the deed.

A bizarre combination of substances, but just a few of the more than 70 different drugs, vitamins and concoctions Adolf Hitler was consuming during the last nine years of his reign. This hard-hitting and in-depth film, a co-production between Channel 4 TV and National Geographic US, sets out to examine the medications Hitler was on, how often and how much he took, and to explore if drugs played a role in his behavior and actions. During the Nazi era, Adolf Hitler was presented to the German people as a great man of destiny, a man possessed of superhuman vigor and strength who would lead Germany to world domination. The truth was very different. Based on a secret American intelligence dossier and the medical diaries and journals of Dr Theodor Morell, the Fuhrer's personal physician, this documentary sheds new light on Hitler's health and extraordinary medicinal regime during the Second World War. They reveal that, far from being a picture of robust health, Hitler was a nervy hypochondriac. They chart Hitler's descent into illness and drug dependency, his use of uppers and downers, quack cures, powerful stimulants and multiple injections for various real or imagined ailments.Health of Adolf Hitler

This 10-episode documentary chronicles how Hitler and his inner circle rose to power by exploiting the economic turmoil of their time. The National Socialists created an illusion of justice and legality, but behind the scenes they subverted democracy and planned a monstrous secret conspiracy. Their gangster regime not only used violence and suppression but also groomed the German people into willing complicity in history's worst crimes. Through archival film footage, interviews, and dramatic reconstructions, this series tells the true story of the rise and fall of the Nazis, from Hitler's recuperation in a hospital bed at the end of World War I to his dramatic final days in a Berlin bunker.Making a Leader

Emerging from the open society following World War One, German pharmaceutical companies grew into a major industry producing inexpensive feel good drugs for the world. So the Nazi military thought it natural to use drugs to enhance soldier performance and even planned campaigns that required them. The invasion of France required a three day Panzer attack without sleep that would have been impossible without stimulants. Fortuanately, both man and machines were afforded a recovery period after the France campaign. But extended periods of drug use without rest in the Battle of Britain and North Africa lead to Nazi collapse. Hitler claimed that between 1934 and 1940, the Nazi rule of Germany had produced architectural uniqueness, and this film was produced to shown to attempt to validate that. The opening montage gives a survey of earlier Gothic and Baroque structures in the country as an example of "architectural superiority" that the German race was said to be the sole inventor of; then moves on to deride the recent construction of the Bauhaus school (with a racially motivated score of Jazz music) and an example of German "architectural decay." Then proceeds to show off buildings constructed by the Nazi and an architectural revival, to "last 1000 years," Film also spends a great of time dwelling on massive and "busy" monuments that had been erected all over the country.Nazi Propaganda Film

- DirectorMartin ThomaStarsHorst GrundGötz Hirt-RegerBert NaegeleJust one year after the Nazis seized power, radio and the press were switched to the same channel. The supreme control organ was the Ministry of Propaganda under Joseph Goebbels. On February 10, 1933, he declared that a "good government" had to carry out "good propaganda," which was a prerequisite for a "spiritual mobilization. His most important weapon: newly founded propaganda companies. The Reichspropagandachef demands that the "slovenliness" in reporting should cease and has word reporters, cameramen and photographers trained in a specially founded Wehrmachtsschule in Potsdam. Goebbels' propaganda war was quickly as effective a weapon as the fighting troops of the infantry, navy or air force. In more than 6000 German cinemas, "Die Deutsche Wochenschau" provided a collage of constantly advancing troops in picture, sound and commentary from the beginning of the war. Whether in Poland, France or Norway: only one can win - the German soldier. Towards the end of the war, the weekly newsreel mainly delivered perseverance slogans. But even Goebbels swayed that the reality of the last days of the war was difficult to adjust. In one of the last issues, the weekly newsreel shows Hitler with his last posse in Berlin: children as cannon fodder. It does not show the wreckage of the Führer, who left behind 50 million dead and mountains of rubble and predicts that his end will also be the end of all Germans. Until the end, the following is true: reality is what you make of it. History will one day be formed from our pictures, boasted Goebbels at the beginning of the war. In the end, all that remained for the Germans was the hope of a miracle.Wikipedia: Die Deutsche Wochenschau.

Wikipedia: Stab-in-the-back myth - An antisemitic conspiracy theory, widely believed and promulgated in right-wing circles in Germany after 1918. The belief was that the German Army did not lose World War I on the battlefield but was instead betrayed by the civilians on the homefront, especially the Jews and the republicans who overthrew the Hohenzollern monarchy in the German Revolution of 1918-19. Advocates denounced the German government leaders who signed the Armistice on November 11, 1918 as the "Novemberverbrecher" - November criminals.

Radio broadcasts reach all parts of the Soviet Union, including Magnitogorsk. On the steppe near the city, a family of nomads lives in their yurt. The father hears blasting: iron ore for the steelworks. Crushed ore and coke yield molten steel for the ladle. Stop-motion animation shows the bountiful tractor and freight car output of the future... A new blast-furnace is under construction. Accepting jobs at the site are women, ethnic minorities, and the nomad. An English-speaking engineer supervises; a young riveter learns his trade from an old hand... In the Kubass region, miners labour to produce the coal which becomes coke in Magnitogorsk... At last the blast-furnace is complete. Workers celebrate. A cheerful patriotic song is sung. Steel pours forth. Elections forced the true republicans to espouse his party and offer him the 'political suicide' post of dire government Reichskanzler ('imperial chancellor', i.e. PM). After the military subdued leftist and regionalist insurrections, Stresemann survived a 1923 Hitlerian coup attempt from Bavaria solely because the Nazi leader nominated a rival of the army chief as war minister. Although his new currency and compromise with the French objectively saved the day, parliament threw him out. Ironically, he would remain as foreign minster while chancellors came and went, forging a Versailles settlement, until killed by an incurable cardiac condition in 1929; Hitler would be waiting for his successful second coup."Year of Crises" - 1923 in Germany
