Cinema Shrine (Movie Collection)
These are all my children (some I love more than others).
Don't really know why IMDB doesn't ignore the "A" "An" and "The" words in the titles but whatever. Was gonna say that, if you're gonna look at it, I'd suggest the AZ alphabetical order option just because. I don't think I can make the list appear that way for everyone. I don't know. I'm bad at technology and stuff.
My dream is to be on "Hoarders" one day - but hoarding movies and stuff not, like, trash and fecal matter.
Also, not to sound too grandiose or anything here, but I love physical media and the idea of people being so reliant on intangible concepts and digital collections and whatnot is scary as hell to me. I prefer having a tangible copy to prove that it exists and that it's mine in the world.
May comment on certain ones but, either way, who cares
Semi-Disclaimer: In my defense on owning some/most of these crappy, low-budget b/z grade horror movies I didn't anticipate on acquiring them. My father is one of those people who goes to a bargain bin and picks out those $5 horror sets - despite my warnings that, often times, they're in a bargain bin with 14 other films for a reason. When Blockbuster and Movie Gallery went out of business, it was just this overflow of crappy horror movies ("Stupid Teenagers Must Die" anyone?). He moved and left me with all these type of movies. I've yet to weed them out and I don't really know what to do with them because I don't wanna be one of those people who pawns them off at a Buy-Sell-Trade place.

- DirectorLars von TrierStarsBryce Dallas HowardIsaach De BankoléDanny GloverA story of slavery, set in the southern U.S. in the 1930s.Really wish Lars von Trier would have gotten around to finishing this trilogy for it looks doubtful he ever will. While not as amazing as Dogville, I still feel like the story (as a whole) is amazing.
- DirectorGreta GerwigJoe SwanbergStarsGreta GerwigJoe SwanbergJay DuplassA man and woman must face the tension that builds between them during a long-distance relationship.Only seen a few Joe Swanberg films but, of the ones I've seen, I've enjoyed this the most. I think I might have a soft spot for the "mumblecore" film movement of the mid 2000's because I really enjoyed "Baghead" and "The Puffy Chair" by the Duplass Brothers too and, I don't know, I like the grainy look and these short, simple glimpses into people's lives.
- DirectorLewis TeagueStarsDee WallaceDaniel Hugh KellyDanny PintauroCujo, a friendly St. Bernard, contracts rabies and conducts a reign of terror on a small American town.I wish this was a better movie. It's one of those movies where I'm so bored for the first hour and I'm just waiting for them to be trapped in the car because, those scenes, are some of the most intense but everything else is boring and lame.
- DirectorDaniel MyrickEduardo SánchezStarsHeather DonahueMichael C. WilliamsJoshua LeonardThree film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.I love The Blair Witch Project. Always have. Always will. I can kinda sorta not really see why people don't like it, but I love it. It's creepy to me because the fear of being lost is one that I have and struggle with every time I walk into a Wal-Mart so, I like to believe, I can really relate to the character's plight.
I'd own Blair Witch 2 just because, but I didn't like it at all. Guess the same applies to "Blair Witch." - DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsHarvey KeitelTim RothMichael MadsenWhen a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant.Own all Tarantino's except Django Unchained and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - hopefully can own soon.
This was one of my top 10 favorite movies circa a budding testosterone infused 7th grade time period. I'd probably be a Mr. Brown, though I'd love to be a Mr. Blonde - DirectorMiguel ArtetaStarsMike WhiteChris WeitzLupe OntiverosAn oddly naive man-child stalks his childhood best friend and tries to reconnect with their past.Love dark comedies and Mike White (lead actor/ screenwriter) is amazing at it. He's also the voice of God. Seriously, his HBO short-lived series Enlightened will change your life. Glad he's gotten a moment in the sun recently with The White Lotus
- DirectorJohn WatersStarsMelanie GriffithStephen DorffAlicia WittAn insane independent film director and his renegade group of teenage filmmakers kidnap an A-list Hollywood actress and force her to star in their underground film.Kinda underrated - one of John Waters' better films IMO.
I can't tell you how hard I laughed at Alicia Witt's character telling how her entire family raped her under the Christmas tree. "Grandma yelled 'Yeah! f_ck her!" - DirectorLars von TrierStarsEmily WatsonStellan SkarsgårdKatrin CartlidgeOilman Jan is paralyzed in an accident. His wife, who prayed for his return, feels guilty; even more, when Jan urges her to have sex with another.Paid a pretty penny for the Out of Print Artisan release some time ago but, nevertheless, I welcomed the beautiful (much needed) Criterion release. Hope to see The Idiots and Dancer in the Dark come soon.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsEllen BurstynJared LetoJennifer ConnellyThe drug-induced utopias of four Coney Island people are shattered when their addictions run deep..Great Movie. Have no desire to ever watch it again.
- DirectorGreg PritikinStarsAdrien BrodyMilla JovovichIlleana DouglasAn ex-office worker becomes a ventriloquist, leading to a date with his unemployment counselor; but his quirky family and a gauche female friend may thwart his new career and love life.Remember this movie being very funny. Been a good while since I've seen it. I'm not a big Milla Jovovich fan, but she is hilarious in this film.
- DirectorAmy Holden JonesStarsAlly SheedyBeverly D'AngeloMichael OntkeanA spoiled rich girl is visited by her fairy godmother and turned into a maid.Bought this at Movie Stop for a whopping $3 - mostly because I knew it was Out of Print and sold for more than $3 on Amazon
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsSean GulletteMark MargolisBen ShenkmanA paranoid mathematician searches for a key number that will unlock the universal patterns found in nature.Need to buy The Fountain and Noah. I don't remember if I included The Wrestler in this list. I don't think I did. I kinda sorta don't really own it, though. I need it. I haven't seen Noah and mother! was amazing, I thought.
- DirectorDrew GoddardStarsKristen ConnollyChris HemsworthAnna HutchisonFive college friends head out to a remote cabin for a getaway, but things don't go as planned when they start getting killed. They soon discover that there is more to the cabin than it seems.Pretty decent horror film but Scream will always be the reigning self-aware and genre deconstructing horror film. Plus, in some ways this is a little too Buffy Season 4 and 7 microwaved over.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsMichael DouglasSharon StoneGeorge DzundzaA violent police detective investigates a brutal murder that might involve a manipulative and seductive novelist.Have YOU ever f_cked on cocaine??
Remember liking the film well enough but, aside from a few key scenes (you know the one), I don't remember much about the actual film. - DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMartin SheenMarlon BrandoRobert DuvallA U.S. Army officer serving in Vietnam is tasked with assassinating a renegade Special Forces Colonel who sees himself as a god.I think I saw the Redux version. Either way, a little too long for my liking. Martin Sheen isn't my favorite either
- DirectorDoug AtchisonStarsAngela BassettLaurence FishburneKeke PalmerAkeelah, a young gifted girl, comes from a dysfunctional family and is on the verge of quitting school. She discovers that she has a high aptitude for spellings and enters a spelling bee contest."Ain't you got no job?"
Love this movie; always puts me in a good mood. When I bought this movie at Wal-Mart, the cashier lady was like, "Oh, this is one everyone should have in their collection!" - DirectorGeorge BessudoStarsTara GerardVanessa ViolaKelsey WedeenThree sisters and a group of their friends take a trip to the home of the recently deceased grandfather -- who died a particularly grisly death -- to learn more about the promise of an inheritance, only to encounter a family of psychos who have taken up residence in the old man's cabin.I remember nothing about this film other than there being, like, this crazy grandma or something. Got this when I was going through a horror DVD label period (i.e. Afterdark Horrorfest, Ghosthouse Underground, Dimension Extreme, etc.)
- DirectorXavier GensStarsKarina TestaAurélien WiikPatrick LigardesA gang of young thieves flee Paris during the violent aftermath of a political election, only to hole up at an Inn run by neo-Nazis.Went through a French Extreme phase - really enjoyed this one. Need to watch it again. I love the whole back-woods country vibe and overt violence.
- DirectorLouie PsihoyosStarsRichard O'BarryLouie PsihoyosHardy JonesUsing state-of-the-art equipment, a group of activists, led by renowned dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry, infiltrate a cove near Taijii, Japan to expose both a shocking instance of animal abuse and a serious threat to human health.Good documentary. Never wanna see it again. Dolphins are cool though
- DirectorJason FriedbergAaron SeltzerStarsCarmen ElectraVanessa LacheyNicole ParkerOver the course of one evening, an unsuspecting group of twenty-somethings find themselves bombarded by a series of natural disasters and catastrophic events.Yeah, it's a bad movie but I'd be lying if I said I didn't laugh at some parts - namely the Juno spoof which was kinda spot-on, same with the Enchanted spoof. That's it though. And even then they kinda overstay what little welcome they maybe had or didn't have to begin with. Like, it's bad - make no mistake - but, I don't know, sometimes you just kinda crave something stupid you feel superior over and this is that
- DirectorGregg ArakiStarsJames DuvalRose McGowanJohnathon SchaechJordan White and Amy Blue, two troubled teens, pick up an adolescent drifter, Xavier Red. Together, the threesome embark on a sex-and-violence-filled journey through an America of psychos and quickie marts.Bought this one mostly because it goes well with my 90s indie scene films and, also, because I had just watched Araki's Mysterious Skin and Smiley Face. Also because Rose McGowan.
- DirectorTom ShanklandStarsEva BirthistleStephen Campbell MooreJeremy SheffieldA relaxing Christmas vacation turns into a terrifying fight for survival as the children begin to turn on their parents.Don't remember much about the film but, nevertheless, it was amusing because killer children and whatnot.
- DirectorGabriele AlbanesiStarsDaniela VirgilioGeno DianaSanta De SantisAn Italian gorefest about a young couple being held captive by a sadistic backwoods family.I actually remember somewhat enjoying this film but, having gone back and seen clips of it recently, I probably wouldn't have that same reaction. I just remember it being kinda disturbing, which was cool.
- DirectorOle BornedalStarsPaprika SteenUlrich ThomsenJonas WandschneiderA group of sixth-graders is convinced their new substitute teacher is actually a menacing alien.Haven't seen this in a while, but it's time I rewatch it because I remember it being fun and pulled off really well. Like it kinda sorta being a kid's horror movie but not kid-friendly.
- DirectorDavid SladeStarsPatrick WilsonElliot PageSandra OhHayley's a smart, charming teenage girl. Jeff's a handsome, smooth fashion photographer. An Internet chat, a coffee shop meet-up, an impromptu fashion shoot back at Jeff's place. Jeff thinks it's his lucky night. He's in for a surprise. One of My All Time Favorite Movies. By far, Page's best performance and definitely one of the best performances of that decade IMO
- DirectorLee DanielsStarsGabourey SidibeMo'NiquePaula PattonIn New York City's Harlem circa 1987, an overweight, abused, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that she can re-route her life in a better direction.I think movies about child abuse are fascinating. They just kind of are. Kinda like in that car crash fascinating way. Maybe a bit melodramatic in retrospect too but still a good movie. Will never forget being so thrilled when Monique swept that awards season
- DirectorGeorge DugdaleMark EzraPeter Mackenzie LittenStarsCaroline MunroSimon ScuddamoreCarmine IannacconeEight people are invited to their alma mater for their 10-year reunion, where a fellow former student, disfigured from a prank gone wrong, is out to seek revenge. What school has a bathtub in it?
Would like to have an original Vestron Video copy
Used to kinda dismiss this one and, sure, it's far from being one of the most enjoyable 80's slasher movies (ending goes on for too long) but I've come around to it more. - DirectorHarmony KorineStarsVanessa HudgensSelena GomezAshley BensonFour college girls hold up a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation. While partying, drinking, and taking drugs, they are arrested, only to be bailed out by a drug and arms dealer.Personally, I really enjoyed this film and, not to sound too pretentious, but it's sorta a masterpiece and a brilliant satire about this current YOLO generation.
Need: "Trash Humpers," "Mister Lonely," and "The Beach Bum." Even if I don't always love Korine's film, I respect him as a filmmaker and truly doing something different. - DirectorOliver StoneStarsJosh BrolinElizabeth BanksIoan GruffuddA chronicle of the life and Presidency of George W. Bush.Don't remember much about this film but, then again, Oliver Stone doesn't really do it much for me, anyhow.
- DirectorUlli LommelStarsElissa DowlingSutton ChristopherChristian BehmThree psychopaths go on a killing spree, recreating the Black Dahlia murder.I wasn't a dumbass who thought this was the real Brian DePalma movie. Believe me, I knew this was a direct-to-video Ulli Lommel POS movie. I suppose that makes it worse that I actually paid money to own this, right? I guess you'd be right but, then again, it came in a pack with 2 other films in his illustrious filmography. Me and my friends love to laugh at these movies (particularly this one and Green River Killer) so, if ever in need of a good laugh, I have them on hand.
- DirectorUlli LommelStarsGeorge KiseleffJacquelyn AuroraGeorgie DonovanAlong twenty years, the deranged serial-killer Gary Ridgway has killed at least forty-eight prostitutes and dumped their bodies in Green River. One of my best friends cites this as his least favorite film of all time and, for that reason, we love laughing at it.
Best Quotes:
"I have to take a sh!t first...Is that okay? ... Wanna wipe my ass? You can if you like..." (Such Poetry) - DirectorDavid FincherStarsJake GyllenhaalRobert Downey Jr.Mark RuffaloBetween 1968 and 1983, a San Francisco cartoonist becomes an amateur detective obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer, an unidentified individual who terrorizes Northern California with a killing spree.Good, but not great, movie. Se7en will always be Fincher's best but, then again, I'm not one to really worship and overrate all things Nolan/Fincher.
- DirectorUlli LommelStarsRudolf Waldemar BremKatja RupéKornelia BojeA young man who works at a nursing home uses the legendary Zodiac killer's M.O. to kill people who neglect their elderly relatives. In some ways, one of the least offensive entries in Lommel's filmography of schlock but, in some ways too, one of the worst because it tries to be a real movie and there's not much to laugh at
- DirectorJames WanStarsCary ElwesLeigh WhannellDanny GloverTwo strangers awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, and soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.Eh, my opinion on "Saw' and the series kind of depends on my mood that day. For the most part, I just take it at face value.
- DirectorDarren Lynn BousmanStarsDonnie WahlbergBeverley MitchellFranky GA detective and his team must rescue 8 people trapped in a factory by the twisted serial killer known as Jigsaw.Mindless entertainment and, while not a good movie (per say), I'd be lying if I said I didn't cringe out of my skin at the needle pit scene and the razor blade box bit.
- DirectorDarren Lynn BousmanStarsTobin BellShawnee SmithAngus MacfadyenJigsaw abducts a doctor in order to keep himself alive while he watches his new apprentice put an unlucky citizen named Jeff through a brutal test.Don't remember anything about this one other than that cool brain surgery scene.
- DirectorDarren Lynn BousmanStarsTobin BellScott PattersonLouis FerreiraDespite Jigsaw's death, and in order to save the lives of two of his colleagues, Lieutenant Rigg is forced to take part in a new game, which promises to test him to the limit."It's just body parts ripping and blood spewing - blag!"
Scream 4 quote...
Would cite this as being my least favorite in the series. - DirectorDavid HacklStarsScott PattersonCostas MandylorTobin BellFollowing Jigsaw's grisly demise, Mark Hoffman is commended as a hero, but Agent Strahm is suspicious, and delves into Hoffman's past. Meanwhile, another group of people are put through a series of gruesome tests. This was actually kinda my favorite of the sequels because, let's be honest, people just wanna see characters put in the traps and try and get through them - does anyone really care about the Jigsaw legacy/ storyline? I don't.
- DirectorMary HarronStarsChristian BaleJustin TherouxJosh LucasA wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.I actually really wanna buy the awful direct-to-video sequel with Mila Kunis...mostly because it's so bad that it's kinda good.
I initially didn't care for this film but, having re-watched it in the past 2 or 3 years, I really understood and appreciated it more. Who doesn't want to be like Patrick Bateman? - DirectorJim WynorskiStarsKelli MaroneyTony O'DellRussell ToddA group of young shopping mall employees stay behind for a late night party in one of the stores. When the mall goes on lock-down before they can get out, the robot security system malfunctions, and goes on a killing spree. One of my favorite 80s slasher movies
- DirectorPaul HaggisStarsDon CheadleSandra BullockThandiwe NewtonLos Angeles citizens with vastly separate lives collide in interweaving stories of race, loss and redemption.I'm not entirely on the "Crash-Bash-Hate Train" per say, but I agree that it shouldn't have won Best Picture for its respective year. Would be curious to rewatch now many years later
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsNicole KidmanPaul BettanyLauren BacallA woman on the run from the mob is reluctantly accepted in a small Colorado community in exchange for labor, but when a search visits the town she finds out that their support has a price. One of my All Time Favorite Films. An Utter Masterpiece. Needs a better edition
- DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsCécile de FranceMaïwennPhilippe NahonBest friends Marie and Alexia decide to spend a quiet weekend at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But on the night of their arrival, the girls' idyllic getaway turns into an endless night of horror.Questionable ending that, yeah, is kind of a cheat, but, overall, mindless bloody entertainment otherwise that I just take at face value
- DirectorChris KentisStarsBlanchard RyanDaniel TravisSaul SteinBased on the true story of two scuba divers accidentally stranded in shark infested waters after their tour boat has left.Reason #4,849,323 not to go scuba diving in the middle of the ocean. I LOVE the subtly here. The prolonged dread. Truly unnerving film.
- DirectorMichael M. ScottStarsNicollette SheridanGordon CurrieSarah DeakinsA woman (Nicolette Sheridan) who underwent an eye transplant is haunted by visions of her donor's last moments of life, and she is convinced that the woman was murdered.Aka "Possessed" I bought this at a Hollywood Video and was going through a Desperate Housewives binge watching period (and when Hollywood Video was still a thing) so, when I saw that Nicolette Sheridan was in this, I figured "why not?" Don't remember much about the movie. Think it was a Lifetime movie?
- StarsJimmy SmitsMarg HelgenbergerJohn AshtonThe small town of Haven becomes a hot-bed of inventions all run by a strange green power device. The whole town is digging something up in the woods, and only an alcoholic poet can discover the secret of the Tommyknockers.Bought cheap. Have yet to see.
- DirectorDavid SteimanStarsBill GoldbergDouglas SmithEmilie de RavinSanta Claus is actually a demon who lost a bet with an angel, so he becomes the giver of toys and happiness. But when the bet is off, he returns to his evil ways.Opening is great - the rest? Eh. It is what it is and it makes no apologies, and I appreciate that but it doesn't always make for the most enriching viewing experience. After a while, the joke gets old, and I think the film realizes it too hence the insanely rushed ending.
- DirectorBrett SullivanStarsEmily PerkinsBrendan FletcherKatharine IsabelleGinger's sister Brigitte, now a werewolf herself, must try to find a cure for her blood lust before the next full moon while hiding out in a rehab clinic from a relentless werewolf. Not bad. Ghost was annoying but not a bad sequel
- DirectorGrant HarveyStarsKatharine IsabelleEmily PerkinsNathaniel ArcandSet in 19th Century Canada, Brigette and her sister Ginger take refuge in a Traders' Fort which later becomes under siege by some savage werewolves. Not bad either.
- DirectorVincent GalloStarsVincent GalloChristina RicciBen GazzaraAfter being released from prison, Billy is set to visit his parents with his wife, whom he does not actually have. This provokes Billy to act out, as he kidnaps a girl and forces her to act as his wife for the visit. One of My All Time Favorite Movies
Need the Blu-Ray
"Let's span time. This is us, spanning time. We're going to span time. Spanning time... spanning time... spanning time..." - DirectorNicole HolofcenerStarsCatherine KeenerBrenda BlethynTroy RuptashSelf-esteem and insecurity are at the heart of this comedy about the relationship between a mother and her three confused daughters. My favorite Nicole Holofcener film. Also one of my All Time Favorite Movies. Wish Lionsgate weren't such Nazis about their rights. Would love for Criterion to release this
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsBilly Bob ThorntonHalle BerryTaylor SimpsonAfter a family tragedy, a racist prison guard re-examines his attitudes while falling in love with the African-American wife of the last prisoner he executed.Make me feel good...
- DirectorRoger AvaryStarsJames Van Der BeekIan SomerhalderShannyn SossamonThe incredibly spoiled and overprivileged students of Camden College are a backdrop for an unusual love triangle between a drug dealer, a virgin and a bisexual classmate.Kinda underrated IMO
- DirectorEthan HawkeStarsPaz de la HuertaVincent D'OnofrioBianca HunterThis movie tells five stories set in a single day at the famed Chelsea Hotel in New York City, involving an ensemble cast of some 30-35 characters.Tried to watch it once, but got bored
- DirectorLucky McKeeStarsAngela BettisJeremy SistoAnna FarisA socially awkward veterinary assistant with a lazy eye and obsession with perfection descends into depravity after developing a crush on a boy with perfect hands. One of My All Time Favorite Movies
In some ways I think I'm May
Do you like...pussy? Pussy cats!! Geez, you're a nasty little thing aren't you? - DirectorBill PaxtonStarsBill PaxtonMatthew McConaugheyPowers BootheA mysterious man arrives at the offices of an FBI agent and recounts his childhood: how his religious fanatic father received visions telling him to destroy people who were in fact "demons."I love movies about religious abuse and harassment and this one was great. Also kind of unintentionally funny too in my mind because I can relate to some degree.
- DirectorLarry ClarkStarsBrad RenfroNick StahlBijou PhillipsA pack of naïve teenagers conspire to murder a mutual friend, whose aggressive demeanour has proven too much. Not that great. Just because your film is "shocking" doesn't make it great.
- DirectorMark JonesStarsWarwick DavisJennifer AnistonKen OlandtAn evil, sadistic Leprechaun goes on a killing rampage in search of his beloved pot of gold.Silly but so much fun. Gotta watch it every Saint Patrick's Day. My DVD is the one where they totally rip a still photo of Aniston from Picture Perfect and give it a green tint.
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsEthan HawkeRobert Sean LeonardUma ThurmanThree old high school friends meet in a Michigan motel room to dissect painful memories from their past.Underrated film - one of Linklater's better IMO. I love movies that are primarily dialogue driven
- DirectorVincenzo NataliStarsNicole de BoerMaurice Dean WintDavid HewlettA group of strangers awaken to find themselves placed in a giant cube. Each one of them is gifted with a special skill and they must work together to escape an endless maze of deadly traps. This is one of those movies where it's too good to hate. Like, the acting is bad, there are plot holes, bad CGI, etc., but when it's good, it's great and it does make up for the weaker elements.
Need to buy Cube 2 (though kinda lame) and the 3rd one (though forgettable) - DirectorJohn BlanchardStarsAimee GrahamChris PalermoKim GreistA reporter investigates a series of murders, dubbed the Spring Break Massacre, which leads to further mayhem.I feel totally safe at school...hi Chucky!
-WANNA PLAY!?
Stupid but sometimes amusingly so - DirectorLarry ClarkStarsLeo FitzpatrickJustin PierceChloë SevignyA day in the life of a group of teens as they travel around New York City skating, drinking, smoking and deflowering virgins. The acting is mostly what makes this movie and, overall, very intriguing portrayal of a disenfranchised youth. One I appreciate a lot more as I get older.
- DirectorTodd SolondzStarsJane AdamsJon LovitzPhilip Seymour HoffmanThe lives of several individuals intertwine as they go about their lives in their own unique ways, engaging in acts which society as a whole might find disturbing in a desperate search for human connection. My 2nd Favorite Film of All Time (or at least, in My Top 5)
Wish this would get a decent edition - an utter masterpiece of a film. This film was a godsend to me. I've always had a morbid and dark sense of humor but, oh man, this film and Solondz is just pitch black...exactly how I like it.
I love it too because it provoked so many reactions from me. On one hand, these were all unsympathetic and terrible people, but I loved them for it and, also, felt bad that their depravity, which they believed to be a solace for happiness, was actually hurting them.
"Until the day you die, you, not me, will always be sh!t!"
"...somehow you just seemed so doomed for failure. But now I see that's not true! There's a glimmer of hope for you after all!"
"If only I had been raped as a child, then I would KNOW authenticity!"
"I came." - DirectorTodd SolondzStarsJennifer Jason LeighEllen BarkinStephen Adly GuirgisAviva is thirteen, awkward and sensitive. Her mother Joyce is warm and loving, as is her father, Steve, a regular guy who does have a fierce temper from time to time. The film revolves around her family, friends and neighbors. One of My All Time Favorite Movies
My 2nd Favorite Todd Solondz film.
There's something so hilariously wrong about a bunch of disabled children singing songs about Jesus. - DirectorNoah BaumbachStarsEric StoltzAnnabella SciorraChris EigemanA writer becomes obsessed with his girlfriend's former boyfriend, now a very successful novelist. To discover if the ex-boyfriend still has feeling for his old love, the writer joins the novelist's group therapy meetings. Not my favorite Baumbach film. Just feels very much like a script that read better on paper. Controversially, I liked the film he made after this - "Highball" (a - more or less - improve film made from leftover footage from this film that Baumbach regrets).
Waiting for "Kicking & Screaming" to be released on BluRay. Need: "While We're Young," "Mistress America," "The Meyerwitz Stories," and "Marriage Story." - DirectorMatthew BrightStarsReese WitherspoonKiefer SutherlandBokeem WoodbineA twisted take on "Little Red Riding Hood", with a teenage juvenile delinquent on the run from a social worker travelling to her grandmother's house and being hounded by a charming, but sadistic, serial killer and pedophile. One of My All Time Favorite Movies.
Need to get a better edition and, also, would LOVE to own Freeway II: Confessions of a Trick Baby, but the DVD is OOP and hella expensive. My dream is to stumble upon it at, like, a Movie Stop or Good Will for under $5. I have a burnt DVD of it but it's not that same. - DirectorPhil TraillStarsSandra BullockBradley CooperThomas Haden ChurchConvinced that a CCN cameraman is her true love, an eccentric crossword puzzler trails him as he travels all over the country, hoping to convince him that they belong together.Almost kinda reaches a point of being so-bad that it's good. I mean, it wasn't AS terrible as I thought it would be but, yeah, that whole random tornado scene didn't exactly help with the cause.
- DirectorMike CahillStarsBrit MarlingWilliam MapotherMatthew-Lee ErlbachOn the night of the discovery of a duplicate Earth in the Solar system, an ambitious young student and an accomplished composer cross paths in a tragic accident.I love Sci-Fi films that aren't overt with that and this one really impressed me.
- DirectorBenh ZeitlinStarsQuvenzhané WallisDwight HenryLevy EasterlyFaced with both her hot-tempered father's fading health and melting ice-caps that flood her ramshackle bayou community and unleash ancient aurochs, six-year-old Hushpuppy must learn the ways of courage and love.I know this sounds kind of mean because it's about flooding, but this movie makes me want to go swimming.
- DirectorDarren AronofskyStarsNatalie PortmanMila KunisVincent CasselNina is a talented but unstable ballerina on the verge of stardom. Pushed to the breaking point by her artistic director and a seductive rival, Nina's grip on reality slips, plunging her into a waking nightmare.Probably my favorite Aronofsky
- DirectorKimberly PeirceStarsHilary SwankChloë SevignyPeter SarsgaardA young man named Brandon Teena navigates love, life, and being transgender in rural Nebraska. When I bought this at FYE, the dude looked at the cover and was like, "Yes we do." And I just smiled unsure of how to respond
- DirectorJonathan KaplanStarsClaire DanesKate BeckinsaleBill PullmanTwo women are arrested for smuggling while vacationing in Thailand.Didn't know this movie existed until one of my best friends gave it a glowing review. Pretty great little movie.

Need to see it again.

Also, anyone who says, "My favorite Christmas movie is 'Die Hard' but I know a lot of people say 'Die Hard' isn't a Christmas," means they actually know in recent years that people *do* consider "Die Hard" to now be one but you still want to seem cool and unorthodox.
For the record, I don't really consider it to be. I just don't know anyone who, on Christmas Eve would pick this movie over something like "A Christmas Story" or "Miracle on 34th Street" without doing so in a conscious effort to seem oh-so cool. - DirectorRichard KellyStarsJake GyllenhaalJena MaloneMary McDonnellAfter narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes. For a brief period when I was in high school, all the wannabe-moody and angsty "intellectual" people asked me to lend this movie out to them. Even still, it's a great movie. I love how they make it seem like the kid dancers are so talented and great but then, when on stage, they're really not that impressive but everyone things they are.
- DirectorBernardo BertolucciStarsMichael PittLouis GarrelEva GreenA young American studying in Paris in 1968 strikes up a friendship with a French brother and sister. Set against the background of the '68 Paris student riots.I've tried multiple times to watch this film but I always get bored for some reason. I mean, if overt sexuality doesn't keep my interest?
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsJohnny DeppWinona RyderDianne WiestThe solitary life of an artificial man - who was incompletely constructed and has scissors for hands - is upended when he is taken in by a suburban family.Need to upgrade this because my DVD is old and has been watched many times. I went as Edward Scissorhands for Halloween in 3rd grade, but this was before they made an official costume so I had to improvise. Wore all black, painted my face white, and taped scissors to a glove. I look pretty bad ass though.
One of My All Time Favorite Movies - DirectorThomas BezuchaStarsDermot MulroneySarah Jessica ParkerClaire DanesAn uptight, liberal businesswoman accompanies her boyfriend to his eccentric and outgoing family's annual Christmas celebration and finds that she's a fish out of water in their free-spirited way of life.I don't really remember that much about this film. I just remember the middle act of it being so boring
- DirectorBobby FarrellyPeter FarrellyStarsDrew BarrymoreJimmy FallonJason SpevackLindsay is stuck in the middle of her relationship with Ben and his passion for the Boston Red Sox.Saw this when it first came out. Don't remember much about it. Just remember one scene where Fallon's character is depressed and all his male friends are helping him and they get him into a shower because he asks one friend, "Why are you shaving my balls?" And, as a pre-pubescent 10 year old, that disturbed me
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsBrad PittEdward NortonMeat LoafAn insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that evolves into much more.Pretty sure my brother borrowed this one from one of his friends many moons ago and never returned it. Well...guess I now officially have adopted it as my own. Anyway, I'm not one of these people who ejaculates over all things Fincher and Nolan
- DirectorZach BraffStarsZach BraffPeter SarsgaardNatalie PortmanA quietly troubled young man returns home for his mother's funeral after being estranged from his family for a decade.Haven't seen since about circa 2008. I remember liking it though, but not loving it.
- DirectorMiguel ArtetaStarsJennifer AnistonJake GyllenhaalDeborah RushA discount store clerk strikes up an affair with a stock boy who considers himself the incarnation of Holden Caulfield. As stated earlier, screenwriter Mike White is the voice of God. His films (this, Year of the Dog, and his TV series Enlightened) are amazing examinations of humanity and life's endurances.
- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsEthan HawkeGwyneth PaltrowHank AzariaModernization of Charles Dickens' classic story finds the hapless Finn as a painter in New York City pursuing his unrequited and haughty childhood love.I need a Blu-Ray of this and Cuaron's A Little Princess. That beautiful green imagery would look stunning. I actually think this movie is somewhat underrated. Admittedly, as Roger Ebert put it, this movie starts off as being great but ends up just being good. This is true because the film does begin to venture off into riding on a cliché structure. That said, it's still a beautiful film and I think it has the right feel to compensate for areas where it lacks. I really enjoyed this and, personally, I enjoyed it more than I did Cuaron's Y Tu Mama Tambien.
- DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsTed LevineKathleen QuinlanDan ByrdA traveling family falls victim to a group of mutated cannibals in a desert far away from civilization. Not a bad remake but I couldn't stand the lead dude and really wanted him to die.
- DirectorMark TonderaiStarsJennifer LawrenceElisabeth ShueMax ThieriotAfter moving with her mother to a small town, a teenager finds that an accident happened in the house at the end of the street. Things get more complicated when she befriends a boy. A double murder is not an accident.I actually didn't think this movie was half bad for what it was, you know?
- DirectorKaryn KusamaStarsMegan FoxAmanda SeyfriedAdam BrodyA newly-possessed high-school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates. Can her best friend put an end to the horror?I'm glad that this movie has been getting a cult following in recent years. At first, I was disappointed with it but, as the years progressed, I found myself always tuning-in to it on FX and whipping out this DVD - which I think I got at a Hollywood Video going out of business - every now and then.
- DirectorBetty ThomasStarsJesse MetcalfeAshantiArielle KebbelThree ex-girlfriends of a serial cheater set up their former lover to fall for the new girl in town so they can watch him get his heart broken.Really bad Mean Girls rip-off. Jenny McCarthy was funny though.
- DirectorJohn DahlStarsSteve ZahnPaul WalkerLeelee SobieskiThree young people on a road trip from Colorado to New Jersey talk to a trucker on their CB radio, then must escape when he turns out to be a psychopathic killer.Where's my CANDY CANE!!!?
I think they made a 3rd, which I need. - DirectorJason ReitmanStarsElliot PageMichael CeraJennifer GarnerFaced with an unplanned pregnancy, an offbeat young woman makes a selfless decision regarding the unborn child.Desperately Seeking Spawn
- DirectorSteve MinerStarsBridget FondaBill PullmanOliver PlattFour people attempt to stop a gigantic crocodile, who is terrorizing residents in Black Lake, Maine.Really need the Scream! Factory release.
- DirectorMark LevinStarsJosh HutchersonCharlotte Ray RosenbergBradley WhitfordA 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl find love in New York City.Really sweet movie, great depiction of childhood
- DirectorJonathan DaytonValerie FarisStarsSteve CarellToni ColletteGreg KinnearA family determined to get their young daughter into the finals of a beauty pageant take a cross-country trip in their VW bus.Love, love, love this movie. I remember when it came out and it was all over every magazine I read. Finally, I watched it and was just instantly in love with it.
- DirectorWoody AllenStarsWill FerrellVinessa ShawChiwetel EjioforTwo alternating stories, one comedy and the other tragedy, about Melinda's attempts to straighten out her life.Really underrated film and, actually, one of my personal favorite Woody Allen movies and, by far, his most underappreciated film.
- DirectorFred Olen RayStarsHannes JaenickeMary Elizabeth McGlynnHarrison MyersEccentric inventor Prof. John Richards seems to have hit pay dirt when he designs a contraption which can move large objects instantly by breaking them into atoms which can be streamed from one place to another. This new machine seems like a sure-fire hit, which has attracted the attention of Richards' less-than-scrupulous assistant Martin, who wants to steal the new invention and sell it himself. In order to make it easier for Martin to do just that, he uses the machine to create a duplicate of Richards, which will do his evil bidding. The professor's son, Jack, and wife, Barbara, learn about Martin's underhanded doings, and Barbara uses another one of her husband's gimmicks to get revenge against Martin -- she turns herself invisible.Bought this one as a joke because...well...look at that cover (BTW absolutely NOTHING depicted on the cover happens in the movie. There's not a brother and sister, the mom never has on a mud mask, wears a rob, and cooks breakfast. There's not even a dog!)
- DirectorBaz LuhrmannStarsNicole KidmanEwan McGregorJohn LeguizamoA poor Bohemian poet in 1890s Paris falls for a beautiful courtesan and nightclub star coveted by a jealous duke.I need to see this again because, having seen it before Romeo + Juliet, I wonder if my opinion of it would change (I strongly dislike Romeo + Juliet, for the record).
