Hypothetical Cast for Final Fantasy 6 Adaptation

by AronDWillms | created - 24 May 2015 | updated - 25 May 2015 | Public

If Final Fantasy 6 were to be made into a film, this would be who I would cast.

1. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Actor | Inception

Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt was born February 17, 1981 in Los Angeles, California, to Jane Gordon and Dennis Levitt. Joseph was raised in a Jewish family with his late older brother, Dan Gordon-Levitt, who passed away in October 2010. His parents worked for the Pacifica Radio station KPFK-FM and ...

Starting off this hypothetical cast list, we have Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Locke Cole. He has experience playing a scrappy underdog type. He also has the acting capabilities to pull off the emotional weight of the character.

2. Jennifer Lawrence

Actress | The Hunger Games

As the highest-paid actress in the world in 2015 and 2016, and with her films grossing over $5.5 billion worldwide, Jennifer Lawrence is often cited as the most successful actress of her generation. She is also the first person born in the 1990s to have won an acting Oscar.

Jennifer Shrader Lawrence...

Next up, we have Jenifer Lawrence. Not only is she in the right age group for it, but also has experience playing someone with trust issues, which Terra is. She also has the ability to carry out the emotional payoff of her character over in the world of ruin.

3. Ewan McGregor

Actor | Moulin Rouge!

Ewan Gordon McGregor was born on March 31, 1971 in Perth, Perthshire, Scotland, to Carol Diane (Lawson) and James Charles McGregor, both teachers. His uncle is actor Denis Lawson. He was raised in Crieff. At age 16, he left Morrison Academy to join the Perth Repertory Theatre. His parents ...

This was an easy one. Ewan McGregor as Edgar Roni Figaro makes perfect sense to me. His charisma and ability to convey loyalty in his performances paints a perfect picture of the king Figaro.

4. Tom Hardy

Actor | Inception

With his breakthrough performance as Eames in Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller Inception (2010), English actor Tom Hardy has been brought to the attention of mainstream audiences worldwide. However, the versatile actor has been steadily working on both stage and screen since his television debut...

While this would be a slightly different role from the usual straight man fare Tom Hardy is known for, his acting ability and ability to bulk up make him my choice for Sabin Rene Figaro

5. Luke Evans

Actor | Dracula Untold

Luke George Evans was born in Pontypool, Wales, and grew up in Aberbargoed, in the south of Wales. He is the son of Yvonne (Lewis) and David Evans. He moved to Cardiff at the age 17. He then won a scholarship to the London Studio Centre, and graduated in 2000.

He starred in many of London's West End...

This was a tough one. Figuring out who would best fit Cyan Garamonde was quite the challenge. For a while I tossed around the idea of Orlando Bloom. Then I remembered Luke Evans's performance in the Hobbit trilogy and realized he'd be a perfect fit. Not only does he look the part, but his character in The Hobbit is very similar, so we know he could pull it off.

6. Daniel Huttlestone

Actor | Les Misérables

Daniel Richard Huttlestone was born in Havering, London, England, to Linda and Mark Huttlestone, a company managing director. He started his stage career from the age of 9 landing the role of 'Nipper' in the 2009 production of Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, performing on the opening night...

Admittedly I've only seen him in one movie, but the range and sincerity of Daniel Huttlestone's performance in Les Miserables has always stuck with me and I can't think of a better choice for the role of Gau. It is worth noting that if Asa Butterfield were younger, I would have considered him as well, but as it stands, I feel he is too old for this role.

7. Emma Stone

Actress | La La Land

Emily Jean "Emma" Stone was born on November 6, 1988 in Scottsdale, Arizona to Krista Jean Stone (née Yeager), a homemaker & Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" Stone, a contracting company founder and CEO. She is of Swedish, German & British Isles descent. Stone began acting as a child as a member of the ...

Admittedly this one was a tossup between Emma Stone and Emilia Clarke, but ultimately Emma stone won out for the role of Celes Chere because of her demonstrated ability to portray a relational character also capable of portraying the damaged and lost character trying to carve out a new life for herself in a messed up world.

8. Iain Glen

Actor | Game of Thrones

Iain Glen is a Scottish actor, born June 24, 1961, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was educated at the Edinburgh Academy, an independent school for boys (now co-educational), followed by the University of Aberdeen. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he was the winner of the ...

This is another one that seems like an obvious choice to me. The passion and charisma seen in his performances scream Setzer Gabbiani. He also has the skill to portray the character's many layers.

9. Peter Capaldi

Actor | Doctor Who

Peter Capaldi was born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Nancy (Soutar) and Gerald John Capaldi. His parents owned an ice cream business. He is of Italian (from his paternal grandfather), Scottish, and Irish descent. Capaldi attended drama classes and was accepted into the Glasgow School of Art. After ...

Young enough to still be in the fight, while old enough to feel ineffective beside younger counterparts, Peter Capaldi fits the role of Strago Magus perfectly. The charisma of the actor also fits with the character's more humorous moments. Easy choice in the end.

10. Mackenzie Foy

Actress | Interstellar

Mackenzie Christine Foy was born 10 November 2000. She began her career as a child model in 2004, working for Garnet Hill, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Guess Kids. She has also modelled in print ads for companies such as Rubbermaid, Jones Apparel Group, The Walt Disney Company, Mattel, Target Corporation...

The range of Mackenzie Foy's acting, as well as the believability behind her acting ability make her the perfect choice for Relm Arrowny.

11. Keanu Reeves

Actor | The Matrix

Keanu Charles Reeves, whose first name means "cool breeze over the mountains" in Hawaiian, was born September 2, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon. He is the son of Patric Reeves, a showgirl and costume designer, and Samuel Nowlin Reeves, a geologist. Keanu's father was born in Hawaii, of British, Portuguese...

This one might sound odd but Keanu Reeves is the perfect choice for Shadow. He has already demonstrated the ability to portray a mysterious character burdened by guilt and shame, plus he has a similar emotional range.

12. Ian McKellen

Actor | The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Widely regarded as one of greatest stage and screen actors both in his native Great Britain and internationally, twice nominated for the Oscar and recipient of every major theatrical award in the UK and US, Ian Murray McKellen was born on May 25, 1939 in Burnley, Lancashire, England, to Margery ...

Ian McKellen would make a fantastic Gestahl. He has the charisma and potentially sinister presence Gestahl is known for.

13. Mark Hamill

Actor | Star Wars

Mark Hamill is best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy - Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983) - a role he reprised in Star Wars: Episode VII - ...

Mark Hamill is the clear and obvious choice for the main villain of the film, Kefka Palazzo. He has the range needed to carry out the role as well as experience portraying very similar characters, namely, of course, the Joker.

14. Russell Crowe

Actor | Les Misérables

Russell Ira Crowe was born in Wellington, New Zealand, to Jocelyn Yvonne (Wemyss) and John Alexander Crowe, both of whom catered movie sets. His maternal grandfather, Stanley Wemyss, was a cinematographer. Crowe's recent ancestry includes Welsh (where his paternal grandfather was born, in Wrexham),...

While there isn't much in the way of characterization for Arvis, we can assume that, since he lives in a mining town, he is a miner. What we do know about him is that he is a down-to-earth man who prefers action to inaction and that he is experienced enough to know that the crisis presented by the empire won't simply blow over. We also know that he is level-headed enough to stay and try to convince the town to join the rebellion instead of just rushing off to join it himself. Russell Crowe is my pick to portray this disillusioned miner turned freedom-fighter.

15. Sean Bean

Actor | The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Sean Bean's career since the eighties spans theatre, radio, television and movies. Bean was born in Handsworth, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, to Rita (Tuckwood) and Brian Bean. He worked for his father's welding firm before he decided to become an actor. He attended RADA in London and appeared in a ...

Another clear choice on this list is Sean Bean for Bannon. He is a very down to earth actor and I think he could definitely portray someone who is stuck between a rock and a hard place, doing everything he can to hold together the bare bones of a resistance movement.

16. John Hurt

Actor | Nineteen Eighty-Four

One of stage, screen and TV's finest transatlantic talents, slight, gravel-voiced, pasty-looking John Vincent Hurt was born on January 22, 1940, in Shirebrook, a coal mining village, in Derbyshire, England. The youngest child of Phyllis (Massey), an engineer and one-time actress, and Reverend ...

I considered John Hurt for Strago and Gestahl, but ultimately, it is the role of Cid that his abilities would fit best. A man who raised a girl as a grandfather figure, while also working to convince her to undergo a process that he himself doesn't agree with. Picturing Hurt perform Cid's final scene is a powerful image.

17. Idris Elba

Actor | Beasts of No Nation

An only child, Idrissa Akuna Elba was born and raised in London, England. His father, Winston, is from Sierra Leone and worked at Ford Dagenham; his mother, Eve, is from Ghana and had a clerical duty. Idris attended school in Canning Town, where he first became involved in acting, before he dropped...

While General Leo Cristophe doesn't have too much in the way of screentime, he does have plenty of characterization as a naive idealist with absolute faith in his emperor, but also presenting a willingness to do what he believes is right if pushed hard enough. Idris Elba has shown in previous performances that he is capable of tackling such a role and I believe he'd be the perfect choice.

18. Andy Serkis

Actor | War for the Planet of the Apes

English film actor, director and author Andy Serkis is known for his performance capture roles comprising motion capture acting, animation and voice work for such computer-generated characters as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001-2003) and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), ...

Andy Serkis's motion capture resume makes him a no-brainer as the casting choice for both Ultros and Mog. I wonder what those voices would sound like....

19. Jason Momoa

Actor | Aquaman

Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa was born on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is the son of Coni (Lemke), a photographer, and Joseph Momoa, a painter. His father is of Native Hawaiian and Samoan descent; and his mother, who is from Iowa, is of German, Irish, and Native American ancestry. Jason ...

Jason Momoa would be my first choice for the casting of Terra's father, Maduin. His demonstrated ability to portray fierce loyalty makes him a clear choice.

20. Scarlett Johansson

Actress | Lost in Translation

Scarlett Ingrid Johansson was born on November 22, 1984 in Manhattan, New York City, New York. Her mother, Melanie Sloan is from a Jewish family from the Bronx and her father, Karsten Johansson is a Danish-born architect from Copenhagen. She has a sister, Vanessa Johansson, who is also an actress, ...

Able to portray the adventurous nature needed to live in an alien world while also possessing the weight of a performance of a protective parent, Scarlett Johansson was the first person that came to mind when attempting to cast Terra's mother, Madeline.

21. Emilia Clarke

Actress | Game of Thrones

British actress Emilia Clarke was born in London and grew up in Oxfordshire, England. Her father was a theatre sound engineer and her mother is a businesswoman. Her father was working on a theatre production of "Show Boat" and her mother took her along to the performance. This is when, at the age ...

She may not have gotten the role of Celes Chere, but Clarke's ability to portray passion and a free spirit make her the clear choice for Locke's first love, Rachel.

22. Christian Bale

Actor | The Dark Knight

Christian Charles Philip Bale was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK on January 30, 1974, to English parents Jennifer "Jenny" (James) and David Bale. His mother was a circus performer and his father, who was born in South Africa, was a commercial pilot. The family lived in different countries ...

Christian Bale's ability to portray a spiteful villain makes him a perfect choice for the role of Vargas Harcourt, the son of a dojo master and rival of Tom Hardy's Sabin Rene Figaro.

23. Matthew McConaughey

Actor | Interstellar

American actor and producer Matthew David McConaughey was born in Uvalde, Texas. His mother, Mary Kathleen (McCabe), is a substitute school teacher originally from New Jersey. His father, James Donald McConaughey, was a Mississippi-born gas station owner who ran an oil pipe supply business. He is ...

Matthew McConaughey has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to portray a character on the wrong side of the law. Add that to the rougher reputation built up around his characters and he is the clear choice for Shadow's former partner in crime, Baram.

24. Marion Cotillard

Actress | La Môme

Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard was born on September 30, 1975 in Paris. Cotillard is the daughter of Jean-Claude Cotillard, an actor, playwright and director, and Niseema Theillaud, an actress and drama teacher. Her father's family is from Brittany.

Raised in Orléans, France, she ...

Able to portray someone intelligent and adventurous, Marion Cotillard would be my first choice to portray the former love interest for Iain Glen's Setzer Gabbiani, Darill.

25. Jeff Bridges

Actor | The Big Lebowski

Jeffrey Leon Bridges was born on December 4, 1949 in Los Angeles, California, the son of well-known film and TV star Lloyd Bridges and his long-time wife Dorothy Dean Bridges (née Simpson). He grew up amid the happening Hollywood scene with big brother Beau Bridges. Both boys popped up, without ...

With his calm and experienced demeanor, I believe Jeff Bridges would be the perfect choice for the teacher of Tom Hardy's Sabin Rene Figaro and Christian Bale's Vargas Harcourt, as well as Vargas's father, Duncan Harcourt.

26. Piper Perabo

Actress | Coyote Ugly

Piper Perabo is a Golden Globe nominated film, stage and TV actor. Born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in New Jersey, she graduated summa cum Laude from Ohio University. In 2000 she was cast in a breakout role in Coyote Ugly. Since then she has been seen in such films as Christopher Nolan's "The ...

While Elayne Garamonde doesn't have much in the way of screen time, we can extract that she was only married to Cyan for a few years before her death, and that she was a supportive wife and loving mother to their child, Pierce Gagnon's Owain Garamonde. I believe Piper Perabo would do a good job with this role, despite the severe lack of presence the character has.

27. Pierce Gagnon

Actor | Looper

Pierce Gagnon is known for Looper (2012), Tomorrowland (2015) and Wish I Was Here (2014).

One of the more famous child actors today, Pierce Gagnon is the clear and obvious choice for the late son of Luke Evan's Cyan and Piper Perabo's Elayne, Owain Garamonde.

28. Peter Vaughan

Actor | Straw Dogs

A true character actor in the best sense of the word, offbeat British thespian Peter Vaughan's hefty frame could appear intimidating or benevolent; his mere presence menacing or avuncular. Adept at playing both sides of the law, his characters usually possessed a strange, somewhat wary countenance ...

Peter Vaughan is the perfect choice for the elder of Narshe, stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, wanting to face the empire and save the oppressed in other lands, and on the other, wanting to protect his people from the horrors of war.

29. Morgan Freeman

Actor | Driving Miss Daisy

With an authoritative voice and calm demeanor, this ever popular American actor has grown into one of the most respected figures in modern US cinema. Morgan was born on June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mayme Edna (Revere), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman, a barber. The young Freeman...

Morgan Freeman would be my choice for the Esper Elder. Old and wise, while also having the ability to use magic, the elder of the Espers has no problem sacrificing himself to protect his people.
