Hypothetical Cast for Final Fantasy 6 Adaptation

Starting off this hypothetical cast list, we have Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Locke Cole. He has experience playing a scrappy underdog type. He also has the acting capabilities to pull off the emotional weight of the character.

Next up, we have Jenifer Lawrence. Not only is she in the right age group for it, but also has experience playing someone with trust issues, which Terra is. She also has the ability to carry out the emotional payoff of her character over in the world of ruin.

This was an easy one. Ewan McGregor as Edgar Roni Figaro makes perfect sense to me. His charisma and ability to convey loyalty in his performances paints a perfect picture of the king Figaro.

While this would be a slightly different role from the usual straight man fare Tom Hardy is known for, his acting ability and ability to bulk up make him my choice for Sabin Rene Figaro

This was a tough one. Figuring out who would best fit Cyan Garamonde was quite the challenge. For a while I tossed around the idea of Orlando Bloom. Then I remembered Luke Evans's performance in the Hobbit trilogy and realized he'd be a perfect fit. Not only does he look the part, but his character in The Hobbit is very similar, so we know he could pull it off.

Admittedly I've only seen him in one movie, but the range and sincerity of Daniel Huttlestone's performance in Les Miserables has always stuck with me and I can't think of a better choice for the role of Gau. It is worth noting that if Asa Butterfield were younger, I would have considered him as well, but as it stands, I feel he is too old for this role.

Admittedly this one was a tossup between Emma Stone and Emilia Clarke, but ultimately Emma stone won out for the role of Celes Chere because of her demonstrated ability to portray a relational character also capable of portraying the damaged and lost character trying to carve out a new life for herself in a messed up world.

This is another one that seems like an obvious choice to me. The passion and charisma seen in his performances scream Setzer Gabbiani. He also has the skill to portray the character's many layers.

Young enough to still be in the fight, while old enough to feel ineffective beside younger counterparts, Peter Capaldi fits the role of Strago Magus perfectly. The charisma of the actor also fits with the character's more humorous moments. Easy choice in the end.

The range of Mackenzie Foy's acting, as well as the believability behind her acting ability make her the perfect choice for Relm Arrowny.

This one might sound odd but Keanu Reeves is the perfect choice for Shadow. He has already demonstrated the ability to portray a mysterious character burdened by guilt and shame, plus he has a similar emotional range.

Ian McKellen would make a fantastic Gestahl. He has the charisma and potentially sinister presence Gestahl is known for.

Mark Hamill is the clear and obvious choice for the main villain of the film, Kefka Palazzo. He has the range needed to carry out the role as well as experience portraying very similar characters, namely, of course, the Joker.

While there isn't much in the way of characterization for Arvis, we can assume that, since he lives in a mining town, he is a miner. What we do know about him is that he is a down-to-earth man who prefers action to inaction and that he is experienced enough to know that the crisis presented by the empire won't simply blow over. We also know that he is level-headed enough to stay and try to convince the town to join the rebellion instead of just rushing off to join it himself. Russell Crowe is my pick to portray this disillusioned miner turned freedom-fighter.

Another clear choice on this list is Sean Bean for Bannon. He is a very down to earth actor and I think he could definitely portray someone who is stuck between a rock and a hard place, doing everything he can to hold together the bare bones of a resistance movement.

I considered John Hurt for Strago and Gestahl, but ultimately, it is the role of Cid that his abilities would fit best. A man who raised a girl as a grandfather figure, while also working to convince her to undergo a process that he himself doesn't agree with. Picturing Hurt perform Cid's final scene is a powerful image.

While General Leo Cristophe doesn't have too much in the way of screentime, he does have plenty of characterization as a naive idealist with absolute faith in his emperor, but also presenting a willingness to do what he believes is right if pushed hard enough. Idris Elba has shown in previous performances that he is capable of tackling such a role and I believe he'd be the perfect choice.

Andy Serkis's motion capture resume makes him a no-brainer as the casting choice for both Ultros and Mog. I wonder what those voices would sound like....

Jason Momoa would be my first choice for the casting of Terra's father, Maduin. His demonstrated ability to portray fierce loyalty makes him a clear choice.

Able to portray the adventurous nature needed to live in an alien world while also possessing the weight of a performance of a protective parent, Scarlett Johansson was the first person that came to mind when attempting to cast Terra's mother, Madeline.

She may not have gotten the role of Celes Chere, but Clarke's ability to portray passion and a free spirit make her the clear choice for Locke's first love, Rachel.

Christian Bale's ability to portray a spiteful villain makes him a perfect choice for the role of Vargas Harcourt, the son of a dojo master and rival of Tom Hardy's Sabin Rene Figaro.

Matthew McConaughey has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to portray a character on the wrong side of the law. Add that to the rougher reputation built up around his characters and he is the clear choice for Shadow's former partner in crime, Baram.

Able to portray someone intelligent and adventurous, Marion Cotillard would be my first choice to portray the former love interest for Iain Glen's Setzer Gabbiani, Darill.

With his calm and experienced demeanor, I believe Jeff Bridges would be the perfect choice for the teacher of Tom Hardy's Sabin Rene Figaro and Christian Bale's Vargas Harcourt, as well as Vargas's father, Duncan Harcourt.

While Elayne Garamonde doesn't have much in the way of screen time, we can extract that she was only married to Cyan for a few years before her death, and that she was a supportive wife and loving mother to their child, Pierce Gagnon's Owain Garamonde. I believe Piper Perabo would do a good job with this role, despite the severe lack of presence the character has.

One of the more famous child actors today, Pierce Gagnon is the clear and obvious choice for the late son of Luke Evan's Cyan and Piper Perabo's Elayne, Owain Garamonde.

Peter Vaughan is the perfect choice for the elder of Narshe, stuck between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand, wanting to face the empire and save the oppressed in other lands, and on the other, wanting to protect his people from the horrors of war.

Morgan Freeman would be my choice for the Esper Elder. Old and wise, while also having the ability to use magic, the elder of the Espers has no problem sacrificing himself to protect his people.
