Qui-Gon and Darth Maul – Gone Too Soon
Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul were arguably the best characters in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Liam Neeson lent the right amount of gravitas to the Qui-Gon character, who was essentially playing the same wise old Jedi role that Obi-Wan Kenobi played in the original movie. Meanwhile, Darth Maul was easily the coolest villain in the prequel series (that lightsaber!). Losing both of these characters toward the end of Phantom Menace was a real bummer; either of them could have livened up the future installments quite a bit.
