Second part shows all of the movies I am willing to see that are released in U.S. theaters during 2013, going from most excited to least excited to "I-don't-even-know-if-it's-being-released-this-year" excited.

“ A very odd...scratch that, one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. Easily. An interesting sci-fi film that shifts from live action to animation midway, it was chock full of nifty ideas, yet here it sits near the bottom of my list. I'd give a much more positive review to the live action part, which contained some wonderfully pointed satire and criticism of Hollywood. The first part was really clever, kind of sad, somewhat funny, and even had some pretty powerful scenes and good acting with Robin Wright and Harvey Keitel. But.....then the animation sequence kicks in, and the movie sort of spirals out of control from there. It wasn't bad that I started having trouble following the movie. What was bad was I had a harder and harder time caring enough to follow the movie. I hate admitting that. I feel you should always give every movie your attention all the way through before you have the right to criticize it. Anything less is disrespectful and shallow criticism. But try as I might, The Congress got so out of hand in the last 45 miniatures, it felt like I was watching a kid standing on the back of a chair, reaching as far out as he can to grasp something, until the chair tips out from underneath him and he faceplants on the floor. Yup, it felt like that. The Congress is a nice curiosity for sci-fi and animation fans, but it's ideas (and presumably some deep message) were so jumbled I'm afraid it doesn't have much value for regular moviegoers. ” - nonofyurbeezwax

Basically, this movie is just a really inferior play on classic cops 'n robbers themes and storylines. There's plenty of good, but by and large it's just an annoying movie. The constant recitation of character's histories in dialogue, the loopy love/hate relationships, and the straight-up logical blunder in writing and editing a crucial scene all made it a pretty tough watch for me. But like I said, there were some of good things going on. In fact, every scene with James Caan was excellent, and I wouldn't mind plucking out all his little scenes to make a good short film. “ My least favorite movie of 2014 may not be anywhere near as bad as some of the movies that ranked above it on my list, but this hipster vampire flick easily annoyed me more than any other movie from last year. Jim Jarmusch basically made a movie about himself if he were a vampire, giving the main characters his taste in music, his taste in literature, his taste clothing, and having them flaunt his own personal collection of guitars, all while making his vampire clones out to be the coolest, hippest bloodsuckers on the block. It was insufferable. The vampires are also apparently smarter than all of humanity, and can easily predict the future...just like their creator Jarmusch, of course. They are depressed, so over life, tired of living amongst stupid humanity, and yet they rely on the humans they hate for their precious blood. This is all a perfect parallel for Jarmusch, the quirky little indie film maker who relies on the money of the simple viewers he loathes so much to keep making his condescending little films. I would be able to stand it all so much more if I knew for sure that Jarmusch was in on the joke! Even if it was an intentional parallel, watching a depressed pair of lovers moan and groan about how pathetic life is (apart from themselves of course) for 2 hours does not for a fun time at the movies make. ” - nonofyurbeezwax
