the scens of violence are quick, brutal, and eerie for it's "out of character" style performance. Saw on a first date, got layed.
3. Battle Royale (2000)

In the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act.
based on an amazing Japanese novel, which in turn was made into a 13 volume manga series, and a film with sequel. Although not as deep, descript, or even as violent as the book or manga, still disturbin to watch high school students have it with each other. Hooray for hormones!

Votes: 830,369 | Gross: $70.10M
from what i understand, there was so much blood involved, they had to shoot parts of the film in black and white so they could just use colored water to fill in for the blood effects

R | 124 min | Crime, Thriller
A film that explores the dark and miserable town, Basin City, and tells the story of three different people, all caught up in violent corruption.

Votes: 38,584 | Gross: $34.24M
although not really grisly, the knife fights and combat are nail biting and you can just feel the cold steel penetrating the flesh, feel the blade being twisted as it's extracted, and the burning sting of the torn muscle, tissue, and nerve endings firing off...
11. Feed (2005)

A cybercrime investigator tracks a man (O'Loughlin) suspected of force-feeding women to death.

Not Rated | 105 min | Drama, History, Horror
Japanese troops round up Chinese and Russian prisoners of war and take them to a place called Squadron 731, where they are grotesquely tortured and experimented on to test new biological weapons.
this film perfectly shows the atrocities of imperial japan and how it's Unit 731 caused so much pain and suffering to the Chinese and Russain people. From evisceration, high pressure chambers, degloving deeply frozen limbs, to tossing a cat to a room full of rats, this movie churns.
13. Men Behind the Sun 4 (1995)
91 min | Drama, History, War
In 1937, Japanese troops raid the Chinese city of Nanking to execute a planned massacre by subjecting over 300,000 helpless civilians to various tortures and atrocities before slaughtering them all.
although i consider this an entirely different entity from the previous entry, it nonetheless paints a crimson canvas of what went down during the "Nanking Massacre". City wide rape, murder, torture, amongst other things. Beware of scene with the pregnant woman and the imperial soldier with the bayonet..

Unrated | 156 min | Drama, History
Details the graphic and shocking, yet undeniably tragic story of Rome's most infamous Caesar, Gaius Germanicus Caligula.
Votes: 29,632 | Gross: $23.44M
still can't believe Malcolm McDowell is in this one! They try to mix "sexy" with "sadistic" but it doesn't really work out too well

A ski vacation turns horrific for a group of medical students, as they find themselves confronted by an unimaginable menace: Nazi zombies.
Votes: 58,527 | Gross: $0.04M
the orignal "Nazi Zombie" flick, even though foreign, the tense action, combat, and running sequences are well done. Moral of the story, "Don't *beep* steal from nazi's!"
19. Braindead (1992)

disturbing to say the least, the amputations were pretty damn realistic along with the victims reactions to it
21. Oldeuboi (2003)
R | 120 min | Mystery, Thriller
After being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in five days.

22. Cannibal Holocaust (1980)
Unrated | 95 min | Adventure, Horror
During a rescue mission into the Amazon rainforest, a professor stumbles across lost film shot by a missing documentary crew.
you knew this was going on there! Too much can be said about this film, but one of my faves just for the nature, acception, and story of this "snuff" film. Not to mention the fact that they really did slaughter those animals in that film.

25. Hâdo ribenji, Mirî (2008)
44 min | Short, Action, Drama
A fierce warrior (Miki Mizuno) becomes embroiled in a vicious cycle of vengeance.
honestly, a sleeper fave of mine. A short movie, small set, and small cast, the violence visited on the enemies of Milly are brutal and calculated. When the bad guys butcher your family in front of you while getting your innards scrambled and torn out of you along with getting your breasts carved off, even more while watching your infant child get set on fire and thrown around the room, you'd go get some.
26. Ravenous (1999)
R | 101 min | Horror
In a remote military outpost in the 19th Century, Captain John Boyd and his regiment embark on a rescue mission which takes a dark turn when they are ambushed by a sadistic cannibal.
Votes: 32,568 | Gross: $2.06M
simply love this movie for the simple fact it reflects the donner party and the Packher party massacre as well as touching on the nearly never mentioned Mexican war. THis movie made David Carlysle one of my fave actors as well as Guy Pearce
27. The Proposition (2005)
R | 104 min | Crime, Drama, Western
A lawman apprehends a notorious outlaw and gives him nine days to kill his older brother, or else they'll execute his younger brother.
Votes: 45,504 | Gross: $1.90M
no one just gets "hurt" in this film. just about every wound here is fatal if not outright gutterly violent. Even when the younger brother is being flogged in public, it's a bloody violent affair. "Peggy Gordon" which is sung in the movie, is an amazing rendition of a classic Irish song, well performed.
28. The Cell (2000)
R | 107 min | Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
An FBI agent persuades a social worker, who is adept with a new experimental technology, to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer in order to learn where he has hidden his latest kidnap victim.
Votes: 85,544 | Gross: $61.33M
everytime i see this movie, i always expect Vince Vaughn to crack at joke at some point. Dark, very very dark, very good job delving into the psychosis of serial killers. Just the murders themselves, the killers flashbacks, the world inside his head, to Vince Vaughn getting his intestines slowly tugged out by a music box crank makes my gut churn
29. No Country for Old Men (2007)
R | 122 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller
Violence and mayhem ensue after a hunter stumbles upon a drug deal gone wrong and more than two million dollars in cash near the Rio Grande.
Votes: 700,054 | Gross: $74.28M
with some of the most realistic shoout outs and gunfights in a movie. People are shot, pegged in the head with a cattle killing pneumatic gun, to getting garrotted by handcuffs, no one dies peacefully
30. 28 Weeks Later (2007)

In Victorian Era London, a troubled clairvoyant police detective investigates the murders by Jack The Ripper.
Votes: 133,796 | Gross: $31.60M
although not a fan of this movie, i am intrigued by how accurate the crime scenes and details of the murders are. not to mention i've always been interested in the white chapel murders.
33. Feast (2005)
R | 95 min | Action, Comedy, Horror
Patrons locked inside a bar are forced to fight monsters.
Votes: 27,018 | Gross: $0.05M
hahah, this one is as much wierd as it is gruesome. the two scenes that creep me out the most are when one of the beasts get's it's junk caught in the door and gets a crude penectomy done. The second is when the little beast guy starts face *beep* the biker chick and rapes her mouth to the point of busting a large load in it. Just think of a walrus with it's white tusks and you'll see what i mean.
34. Saw (2004)

Two strangers, who awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.
Votes: 332,249 | Gross: $56.00M
not the worst or best of them or let alone bloodiest, but i'd rather just post this up than to go down the entire saga.
35. The Passion of the Christ (2004)
R | 127 min | Drama
Depicts the final twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem.
Votes: 191,526 | Gross: $370.78M
i'm atheist first off. but even so, jsut the level of pure *beep* that James caviezel oops..Jesus went through is just barbaric. Wether a true son of God, a false prophet, a zealot, the amount of scourging this man got would have been more than enough to suffice the crucifixion. "Hey Pilate, flip me over bro, this sides bloody enough".
36. Watership Down (1978)
PG | 91 min | Animation, Adventure, Drama
A group of rabbits flee their doomed warren and face many dangers to find and protect their new home.
okay, i know no one would suspect this being a childrens movie based off a childrens book. But don't let any of that fool you, this movie will traumatize any small children who view it. A very rich animation where every mannerism of rabbits is captured, a moving and suspenseful plot with interesting characters even for rabbits, the violence is quite shocking for this movie. Rabbits war with each other, tear ears ups, claw faces, eyes, stomachs, bite open throats, the amount of blood in this film is worth at least a PG-13 and not the misleading PG.
37. When Trumpets Fade (1998 TV Movie)
R | 95 min | Action, Drama, War
A private in the latter days of WWII on the German front struggles between his will to survive and what his superiors perceive as a battlefield instinct.
very violent for a tv movie for HBO, this was the first war film i saw where they had intestines and body parts strewn about in the bushes and tree limbs. When a bomb landed and made soft targets, this movie made sure you knew.

Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a superhero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.
Votes: 473,529 | Gross: $48.07M
i think the most brutal moments in this film have to be when Hitgirl is getting her ass handed to her by a grown adult. Just someting about grown men cracking little girls in the face over and over just doesn't sit well with me. Oh well, bastard gets his, next movie!
43. Jacob's Ladder (I) (1990)

At an Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson.
Votes: 104,484 | Gross: $16.93M
one of the best prequels ever made, it fits in canonically with the first film, where scenes and events explain unexplained ones in the previous film, and with todays technology and special effects, the creatures, mutations, and fusion are all even more chiling and disgusting.
47. Rest Stop (2006 Video)
R | 80 min | Horror, Romance, Thriller
The film follows Nicole Carrow, a young woman who is threatened by a maniac serial killer, after her boyfriend Jess, is abducted in a rest stop.
hahah, as gory as this is at times, my fave part is when she has to blow the cops brains out a second time because the first time she missed!
48. Piranha 3D (2010)
R | 88 min | Comedy, Horror, Thriller

Votes: 77,678 | Gross: $25.00M
although a remake, it does the orignal justice by being just as good. it's always a treat to see Jerry Connely getting chewed to pieces.
49. Frogs (1972)
PG | 91 min | Horror, Mystery, Romance
A group of hapless victims celebrate a birthday on an island estate crawling with killer amphibians, birds, insects, and reptiles.
yeah, believe it or not, this movie is pretty grim for a PG creature feature. FOr one, EVERY CHARACTER IN THIS MOVIE DIES. Not only are they killed off by mohter nature and the animals on this hellish island, but they're either horrifically violent (mauled and chewed up by alligators), sadistic (woman is chased by wild animals into a leech pond and then into a viper nest where she his bitten to death) or just plain dumb (woman gets foot stuck in sand bar and a slow swimming turtle kills her). Either way, this movie makes you wanna drop gallons of agent orange onto the swamps and forests of this film if it kills these devilish beasts

yakuza sadomasochism with scenes that made even me cringe and squirm.
52. Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky (1991)
R | 91 min | Action, Comedy, Thriller
A young man with superhuman strength is incarcerated at a prison run by corrupt officials and seeks to use his martial arts to clean up the system.
i'd recommend the orignal subtitle version, the english dubbing is horrid just by the simple fact they gave Riki a michael jackson pitched voice. SO much over the top violence and brutality i can't begin where to start. I guess a good example is when a guy gets his eye smacked out of his head, so he guts himself with a knife and tries to strangle Riki with his own innards.
53. Inglourious Basterds (2009)

the bearjew with the baseball, nazi *beep* strangling woman to death, hitler and himmler getting faces lit up...this movie felt a lot like a big FU to nazi's and there is nothing wrong with that at all
