- DirectorShane ClaiborneJamie MoffettStarsMichael BrixAmber ChristisShane ClaiborneGod took dirt and breathed life into it. And then there was humanity. Humanity took life and breathed dirt into it. And now we have a mess. We are made in the image of a Creator, and yet much of what we have created has made the rest of Creation groan for liberation. In this volume, a host of ordinary radicals invite us to think about what it means to care for the earth, and to be co-creators with a God of beauty rather than destruction. We will see toxic lots become gardens, trash turned into fashion show glamour, used vegetable oil become fuel for diesel engines - ugly things brought to life. There really is the sense that maybe, just maybe, conversion can mean that the world will look different than it does now. Maybe its too much fun for a single volume, but the big-top circus hits the inner city and a group of intergalactic superheroes visit earth & some young collaborative artists teach us why the prophets say that a child will lead us into the dreams of God. That's what we're talking about: Creation.

The film follows supermodels, photographers, agents, designers, plastic surgeons, make-up artists and psychologists and asks the question...what is beauty and is it worth the cost?

- DirectorChristoph RehageStarsChristoph RehageThis is a time-lapse, made up of roughly 1.400 photographs, depicting a one-year walk from Beijing to Urumqi in 2007/2008. Unlimited growth of hair and beard add liveliness to the resulting video. The complete distance has been covered on foot. Just plain good old walking. There are scenes on airplanes, trains and boats, which were taken during breaks. This is not a strict '1 picture a day' video, since there are many instances where several shots have been taken on the same occasion. The intention was to show movement in the background, include other people in the frame, and make the video more interesting that way. The reference to Teacher Xie in the end is a dedication to a great master of walking.

- DirectorJenny SteinStarsHarold BrownCheri Ezell-VandersluisHoward LymanPeaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home explores the powerful struggle of conscience experienced by several people from traditional farming backgrounds who come to question the basic assumptions of their way of life. A riveting story of transformation and healing, the documentary portrays the farmers' sometimes amazing connections with the animals under their care, while also providing insight into the complex web of social, psychological and economic forces that have led to their inner conflict. Interwoven with the farmers' stories is the dramatic animal rescue work of a newly-trained humane police officer whose sense of justice puts her at odds with the law she is charged to uphold. With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, this groundbreaking documentary shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

- DirectorFrank WolfStarsTaku HokoyamaFrank WolfFrom Portage and Main in downtown Winnipeg to the family cottage near Parry Sound in Ontario, filmmaker Frank Wolf and his inexperienced friend Taku Hokoyama tackle raging rapids and grueling portages on a 3,100 km canoe trip through Canada's Boreal forest in an effort to shed light on the issues now facing the wilderness area. The Boreal Wilderness is a massive swath of forest that lies just north of the Canada-US border. It contains 25 % of the world's remaining ancient forest and is globally significant in its ability to filter water, keep carbon levels in check, and operate as a species habitat. Manitoba and Ontario are home to the largest intact forest area. The remote location has kept it safe for many years, but current interest from the forestry, hydro, and mining industries now threatens the sanctity of the forest. Deeply committed to their mission and message but never didactic, Frank and Taku, with their offbeat sense of humor, provide an intimate look into the current environmental and social issues facing the region. This is not a typical nature documentary, however. Our amiable guides cope with bears, black flies and flat tires in order to educate and entertain us over the course of their 75-day adventure.

- DirectorDaniel RaimStarsJim BissellRobert F. BoyleHenry BumsteadProduction design has always been a key part of the Hollywood filmmaking process, but until recently the field received very little critical attention. But thanks to Daniel Raim's lucid and concise Oscar nominated documentary about Robert Boyle, one of Hollywood's best art directors, a general audience now has a chance to savor what these masters of their craft have contributed. Boyle tells stories about working on everything from Hitchcock's "North by Northwest," "The Birds" and "Marnie" to "Fiddler on the Roof." Boyle is quite eloquent and witty in explaining his craft, and others, including fellow art director Henry Bumstead, are also interviewed. Raim has done an imaginative job of editing production storyboards and sketches with photographs and film segments so that we 'get' what the production designer actually does. The detailed segment on constructing Mt. Rushmore in the studio (thus the film's title!) is fascinating, as we learn more about how actual photos of a location can be skillfully blended with a constructed set. A special highlight is Raim's coverage of "The Birds," in which Raim has Boyle revisit the actual location as film footage from Hitchcock's memorable film is intercut with continuity sketches drawn for Boyle by his draftsman, Harold Michelson. We see a black-and-white line drawing of Tippi Hedren with a bird attacking her, which then becomes that actual shot in the film. Raim's film is a welcome gift to everyone anywhere who wants to know more about what has and continues to make Hollywood Hollywood.
