- DirectorErnest PrakasaStarsErnest PrakasaKin Wah ChewGisella AnastasiaJust when everything is going well for Erwin, his father falls sick and asks him to drop everything and help out at the family store, disappointing his irresponsible older brother Yohan.Right off the bat, I know this movie is not for me because :
a. I rarely watch Indonesian movies, and when I do comedy is not usually a genre that I like.
b. Comedy is also a genre that I always have a hard time getting into. I don't like blunt in-your-face comedy that American movies are usually like. I hate slapstick. I like mostly British comedies because it is sarcastic, dark, and not obvious (Example : Hot Fuzz)
For the first hour of this movie, I really did not like it. The whole theater was roaring with laughter but not one joke felt funny to me. I still don't think this movie is funny at all. But something happened in the last hour of the movie. The serious part of the movie actually gets me. It felt earnest and heartfelt and the acting delivery is spot on. The ending also felt heartfelt but realistic.
I really do want to give it more than 5 because of the effectiveness of the serious moments, but because of the jokes I just can't bring myself to give it more. So 5 it is.
5/10 - DirectorGarth JenningsChristophe LourdeletStarsMatthew McConaugheyReese WitherspoonSeth MacFarlaneIn a city of humanoid animals, a hustling theater impresario's attempt to save his theater with a singing competition becomes grander than he anticipates even as its finalists find that their lives will never be the same. The plot is so generic and boring but inoffensive. The songs are basic typical pop songs, but they are performed well and the performances at the end was easily the highlight of this movie. It's better than average and it's enjoyable, but nothing special.
6/10 - DirectorMorten TyldumStarsJennifer LawrenceChris PrattMichael SheenA malfunction in a sleeping pod on a spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet wakes one passenger 90 years early. So this is not as bad as I thought it would be based on the reviews but it is just so.. straightforward. More of a rom-com than a sci-fi. There's no twist and turns and everything is so predictable. The special effects and overall design of the ship are great and both Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence were charming and charismatic but overall I felt really underwhelmed by it. Still giving this one 3 stars because it was above average and entertaining enough.
6/10 - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsFelicity JonesDiego LunaAlan TudykIn a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.
- DirectorMike MitchellWalt DohrnStarsAnna KendrickJustin TimberlakeZooey DeschanelAfter the Bergens invade Troll Village, Poppy, the happiest Troll ever born, and the curmudgeonly Branch set off on a journey to rescue her friends. This movie was okay. It's adorable and colorful and the songs are good, but for me there's nothing special about it. Kids will like it, adults won't mind it.
6/10 - DirectorScott DerricksonStarsBenedict CumberbatchChiwetel EjioforRachel McAdamsWhile on a journey of physical and spiritual healing, a brilliant neurosurgeon is drawn into the world of the mystic arts. This is one of the best Marvel movie for me. The storyline and the world is unique, the script and the comedy are on point, and Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect as Doctor Strange. What's more, the visuals are absolutely perfect and the actings are all great. Such a great superhero movie.
8/10 - DirectorRon HowardStarsTom HanksFelicity JonesIrrfan KhanWhen Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Dr. Sienna Brooks and they race across Europe together against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.I really like the beginning of this movie but the longer the movie goes on, it became more and more generic and tropey and I saw the twist from a mile away. The pacing is too fast and overall it's just so generic.
6/10 - DirectorTim BurtonStarsEva GreenAsa ButterfieldSamuel L. JacksonWhen Jacob (Asa Butterfield) discovers clues to a mystery that stretches across time, he finds Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. But the danger deepens after he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers. As with all Tim Burton's movie, it is visually stunning and the costumes and special effects are great. It is eery and gorgeous and it fits the tone so well. Unfortunately, the story is so generic and nothing special. I also read the book and the book also have the same problem. The last 30 minutes of the movie stray from the book so much and became a lot more comical than the book. Because the ending of the book is also underwhelming, I'm not that bothered by the new ending in the movie.
6/10 - DirectorPeter BergStarsMark WahlbergKurt RussellDouglas M. GriffinA dramatization of the disaster in April 2010, when the offshore drilling rig called the Deepwater Horizon exploded, resulting in the worst oil spill in American history.I know nothing about the oil industry and this movie is filled with technical terms and other specific things about the oil industry especially in the first half, but strangely that made the movie much more real and compelling for me. This movie is not Independence Day. This is a real disaster and I really like how they handled it in the movie. I watched it with an oil & gas engineer and he got scared because it is so real.
7/10 - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsTom HanksAaron EckhartLaura LinneyWhen pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger lands his damaged plane on the Hudson River in order to save the flight's passengers and crew, some consider him a hero while others think he was reckless. This is a well-made character drama based on a true story. Tom Hanks is so likable as always and everything is well-made. Unfortunately, for me the pacing is a bit slow and even though it is good and enjoyable, this movie is not extraordinary and the movie does not stick in your head.
7/10 - DirectorHenry JoostAriel SchulmanStarsEmma RobertsDave FrancoEmily MeadeA high school senior finds herself immersed in an online game of truth or dare, where her every move starts to become manipulated by an anonymous community of "watchers."This is such a fun movie! I enjoyed it immensely. I enjoyed the dares and the characters are fun too. Obviously not an Oscar caliber movie but it is still so enjoyable to watch.
7/10 - DirectorJustin LinStarsChris PineZachary QuintoKarl UrbanThe crew of the USS Enterprise explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy, who puts them, and everything the Federation stands for, to the test.It is still an entertaining action sci-fi movie in the Star Trek franchise, but compared with the other two movies, this one is just not that memorable. I still enjoyed it a lot, but both the plot and the villain are not memorable.
7/10 - DirectorYeon Sang-hoStarsGong YooJung Yu-miMa Dong-seokWhile a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan. This is such a well-done zombie movie. It is really thrilling and setting it in a closed and moving space of a train really works. The characters made me care about them and the script is great. Some of the characters are still a cliche, but overall I really enjoyed this.
7/10 - DirectorDavid F. SandbergStarsTeresa PalmerGabriel BatemanMaria BelloRebecca must unlock the terror behind her little brother's experiences that once tested her sanity, bringing her face to face with a supernatural spirit attached to their mother. This is one of the better horror movies in recent years. The concept is unique and it gave me a couple of good scares. The family dynamics were also really good. This is not as good as I wanted it to be, but it is still very enjoyable.
7/10 - DirectorDrake DoremusStarsNicholas HoultKristen StewartVernetta LopezIn an emotionless utopia, two people fall in love when they regain their feelings from a mysterious disease, causing tensions between them and their society.I did not expect anything at all watching this since I have heard of this premise before in a novel I've read, but turns out I really enjoyed this. The cinematography and set designs are really beautiful and the story is unexpectedly heartfelt, backed with great acting from both Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart. I cried watching this movie and I really enjoyed it.
8/10 - DirectorAndrew StantonAngus MacLaneStarsEllen DeGeneresAlbert BrooksEd O'NeillFriendly but forgetful blue tang Dory begins a search for her long-lost parents and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.It was a good movie with good messages, but it is not as good as Finding Dory. The plot is basically just a repeat of the first movie, but the adventures that Dory had in this movie is entertaining enough, especially for kids. It's good, but not great.
7/10 - DirectorDuncan JonesStarsTravis FimmelPaula PattonBen FosterAs an Orc horde invades the planet Azeroth using a magic portal, a few human heroes and dissenting Orcs must attempt to stop the true evil behind this war.Where do I start with this one? The pacing is really really messy. There are lots and lots of unnecessary and weirdly-placed expositions. There's a lot of telling and not showing. None of the characters have any character growth and personality. It tried to do too much but ended up achieving so little. It is watchable, but such a huge disappointment.
6/10 - DirectorJames WanStarsVera FarmigaPatrick WilsonMadison WolfeEd and Lorraine Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by a supernatural spirit. As a movie, I really enjoyed it. I love the British period setting, I love the family and I love all the acting of all the actors. I got really attached to all the characters and that's rare for a horror movie. Unfortunately, it is not as scary as the first movie but some parts are still scary. Overall, I really enjoyed it and it is a well-made horror movie.
7/10 - DirectorThea SharrockStarsEmilia ClarkeSam ClaflinJanet McTeerA girl in a small town forms an unlikely bond with a recently-paralyzed man she's taking care of.I am conflicted about this movie. In one hand, I really enjoyed it. The characters are endearing, the settings and the cinematography are beautiful. And I did cry during the movie. Saying all that though, this is the kind of movie that knows what it wants. It wants to manipulate your emotions, to make you cry. This is essentially a better version of Nicholas Sparks movie. Nothing wrong with that, and I did enjoy it, but it is still just not innovative. Moreover, the portrayal of disabled person and some of the choices made within this movie just did not sit well with me. Nevertheless, I really did enjoy it.
6/10 - DirectorBryan SingerStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1980s the X-Men must defeat an ancient all-powerful mutant, En Sabah Nur, who intends to thrive through bringing destruction to the world.I really don't understand all the bad reviews for this movie. It is not the best X-Men movie but I still really enjoyed it. Michael Fassbender is really good here, and Quicksilver definitely is the Spider-Man of this movie. He definitely stole the whole movie and his slow motion sequence is the best scene of the movie.
This is the funniest X-men movie, but unfortunately with all that comedy the climax suffers. The climax is messy and Oscar Isaac as a villain really failed. He felt like a caricature, like a slapstick cartoon and his motivation is hard to relate and understand. Jennifer Lawrence is also too much of a Katniss that a Mystique in the movie and she fell a little bit flat for me. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed all the other new younger cast of characters.
7/10 - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.This one I think is almost on par with The Winter Soldier for me. I like that the conflict is more on the civil war instead of some big bad guy and the fact that the villain is almost non-existent fits well with the movie. The relationship and argument between Iron Man and Captain America is believable and I can see both sides of the story even though I am squarely in one camp (Team Iron Man) Overall, this is a really good Marvel movie that is also really entertaining.
The highlight of the movie though, is definitely Spider-Man. He is so funny and such a teenager, I love it. Spider-Man definitely stole the show for me.
8/10 - DirectorMike FlanaganStarsJohn Gallagher Jr.Kate SiegelMichael TruccoA deaf and mute writer who retreated into the woods to live a solitary life must fight for her life in silence when a masked killer appears at her window. This movie is a really well-done home invasion movie, using the familiar tropes but in a great way. The pacing is spot-on, the build-up of the suspense is perfect, and it it essentially a good suspenseful movie. Despite that, it is still just a home-invasion movie with a thin plot, so I can't give a higher rating because the movie is just too simple for my liking.
6/10 - DirectorIlya NaishullerStarsSharlto CopleyTim RothHaley BennettHenry is resurrected from death with no memory, and he must save his wife from a telekinetic warlord with a plan to bio-engineer soldiers.I was really looking forward to this movie since the premise and the shooting technique looks so unique. For the most part, I did enjoy the first person technique, but it quickly became just a gimmick. The story is too flimsy and weak to support it and the experience of watching this became akin to watching a let's play of a video game on youtube. There's gratuitous amount of gore and nudity here which is not my thing at all. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the experience of watching it and the premise is unique.
6/10 - DirectorDan TrachtenbergStarsJohn GoodmanMary Elizabeth WinsteadJohn Gallagher Jr.A young woman is held in an underground bunker by a man who insists that a hostile event has left the surface of the Earth uninhabitable.I love this movie. The thing I enjoyed the most about this movie is the pacing. It builds suspense so well, starting off slowly with little hints here and there and ended up with some really suspenseful moments. I love Cloverfield but I felt that this movie is a completely different beast altogether. Both are enjoyable in their own rights.
8/10 - DirectorBen WheatleyStarsTom HiddlestonJeremy IronsSienna MillerLife for the residents of a tower block begins to run out of control. Some of the imagery are really powerful and the message behind the movie is really thought-provoking but I found myself skimming the movie because the plot and the scenes are so convoluted and jumbled up that I have a hard time following it. Or maybe it's just me.
6/10 - DirectorByron HowardRich MooreJared BushStarsGinnifer GoodwinJason BatemanIdris ElbaIn a city of anthropomorphic animals, a rookie bunny cop and a cynical con artist fox must work together to uncover a conspiracy. This movie really got to me. I love what it has to say about racial stereotype and the importance of embracing racial diversity. It is so unexpectedly deep and the moral of the story is so relevant. I even got a bit teary eyed at some scenes.
And for the kids who won't get the message completely, the world of Zootopia is also really creative and fun. And the mystery is also really enjoyable. I love it even more than Inside Out. I'm still thinking about it even after watching it.
9/10 - DirectorChristian DitterStarsDakota JohnsonRebel WilsonLeslie MannA group of young adults navigate love and relationships in New York City.I really really did not like Rebel Wilson's humor in this, or in any movie for that matter. She really annoyed me. The rest of the movie is just meh, harmless but there's nothing special about it. The pacing is weirdly flat and uninteresting and the payoff is so anticlimactic. Not my favourite but not the worst movie ever. Just meh.
5/10 - DirectorTim MillerStarsRyan ReynoldsMorena BaccarinT.J. MillerA wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.Maybe this is just me but this movie is not as good as everyone said. It's an entertaining movie, but not that great. The script tries a little too hard, the villain is weak, the sidekicks are also useless. I laughed maybe once or twice throughout the whole movie. Not bad, but not as good as what everyone says.
7/10 - DirectorBurr SteersStarsLily JamesSam RileyJack HustonFive sisters in 19th century England must cope with the pressures to marry while protecting themselves from a growing population of zombies.I really enjoyed the movie. I love Pride and Prejudice and I love zombie movies and unexpectedly the mash up between the two is really enjoyable. This is more of a Pride and Prejudice movie with a little bit of zombies in between than a proper zombie movie but it's still really enjoyable. Lily James is charming and Matt Smith is really funny too.
7/10 - DirectorWilliam Brent BellStarsLauren CohanRupert EvansJames RussellAn American nanny is shocked that her new English family's boy is actually a life-sized doll. After she violates a list of strict rules, disturbing events make her believe that the doll is really alive.I expected more from this movie. The first half is good, with good pacing and eerie atmosphere that I like so much, but the further I get in this movie, the more I am bored of it. It is predictable and generic, and it is a disappointment. Unlike The Forest though, it is not horrible. It's just generic.
5/10 - DirectorJ BlakesonStarsChloë Grace MoretzMatthew ZukGabriela LopezFour waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth in ruin. Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. My expectation was rock bottom before watching this movie to be honest. Unexpectedly, the movie was not as bad as I thought. There are some good ideas, and it is entertaining. But the love triangle are laughable like all YA love triangle, and the actings are weak. It is not horrible, it's just mediocre.
6/10 - DirectorJason ZadaStarsNatalie DormerEoin MackenStephanie VogtA young woman's desperate search for her twin sister brings her to a ghost-filled stretch of wilderness known as the 'Suicide Forest.'Even with my very low expectation for this movie, it still managed to disappointed me. I was expecting cheap jump scares and cheesy scares and maybe some atmosphere. I was not expecting good acting or good writing. I got none of that. Not only is this movie badly written, it is not scary at all and the jump scares I can see from miles away. Very very disappointed in this.
4/10 - DirectorDuke JohnsonCharlie KaufmanStarsDavid ThewlisJennifer Jason LeighTom NoonanA man crippled by the mundanity of his life experiences something out of the ordinary. This movie is really different. At heart, this is about a man unable to connect with anyone and everything, and this movie is just one night in the life of this man when she met one girl, Lisa, who's different. This movie made me think about my own life and the life of people around me in ways that I never thought I will. Not for everyone, but it surely made you think.
7/10 - DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsDaisy RidleyJohn BoyegaOscar IsaacAs a new threat to the galaxy rises, Rey, a desert scavenger, and Finn, an ex-stormtrooper, must join Han Solo and Chewbacca to search for the one hope of restoring peace. What more can I say about this movie? I LOVE Star Wars, and I really really enjoyed this movie. Rey is such a badass, Finn is really funny, and Kylo Ren is such a complex villain. I love the production design, the feel of the lived-in world, and all the little details of the world. I don't know if it is my favourite Star Wars movie, but it certainly is a great Star Wars movie.
9/10 - DirectorAdam McKayStarsChristian BaleSteve CarellRyan GoslingIn 2006-2007 a group of investors bet against the United States mortgage market. In their research, they discover how flawed and corrupt the market is.Full credit to the amazing editing and directing of the movie that can make me care about a topic that I couldn't care less about : economy, banking, and stock.
I actually wanted to know how it works out in the end even though I already knew it. And I also learned a LOT about the messed-up American economy and the recession, things that I never thought I would WANT to know.
8/10 - DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss and a team of rebels from District 13 prepare for the final battle that will decide the fate of Panem.A good end to the series. I like it better than part 1, but it is definitely not as good as the first movie and Catching Fire. Jennifer Lawrence is phenomenal and Josh Hutcherson also did great. The one thing I am disappointed about is the change in tone of the ending compared to the book. Even though the ending of both is the same, but I like the tone of the book ending more.
7/10 - DirectorJohn CrowleyStarsSaoirse RonanEmory CohenDomhnall GleesonAn Irish immigrant lands in 1950s Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance with a local. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within. What a beautiful romance movie. I love the setting of Ireland and Brooklyn, and I love all the period details. Saoirse Ronan is lovely and all the actings are great.
8/10 - DirectorTom McCarthyStarsMark RuffaloMichael KeatonRachel McAdamsThe true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. Some people got bored watching this movie, but I was captivated throughout. This is investigative journalism at its best. Sometimes watching people solve problem by researching, talking, and discussing the problem instead of by shooting people is refreshing and as captivating.
10/10 - DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigChristoph WaltzLéa SeydouxA cryptic message from James Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover the existence of a sinister organisation named SPECTRE. With a new threat dawning, Bond learns the terrible truth about the author of all his pain in his most recent missions.First of all, it is not a bad movie. I like it a little bit better than Quantum of Solace as a matter of fact. But the plot is so ordinary and by-the-number, and Christoph Waltz as the villain is just not very memorable at all. The action scenes are also ordinary. It's not bad by any means but I also don't think it is very good.
6/10 - DirectorRob LettermanStarsJack BlackDylan MinnetteOdeya RushA teenager teams up with the daughter of young-adult horror author R.L. Stine after the writer's imaginary demons are set free on the town of Madison, Delaware.I LOVED the books growing up and the movie is just such a fun movie, especially for kids and adults who grew up reading the books. A lot of the iconic monsters are in this movie and it is just so fun throughout.
7/10 - DirectorLenny AbrahamsonStarsBrie LarsonJacob TremblaySean BridgersA little boy is held captive in a room with his mother since his birth, so he has never known the world outside. This movie is just phenomenal. I love the book because the premise is good, but the execution of this movie is just really great. Both Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay is phenomenal in the movie.
10/10 - DirectorSteven SpielbergStarsTom HanksMark RylanceAlan AldaDuring the Cold War, an American lawyer is recruited to defend an arrested Soviet spy in court, and then help the CIA facilitate an exchange of the spy for the Soviet captured American U2 spy plane pilot, Francis Gary Powers. The movie is executed and directed very well, like all of Steven Spielberg's movie but for some reason for me it is not that memorable to me. The historical aspect is really good and the acting is good, especially Mark Rylance. For me this is a good and well-made movie but it is not one of my favourites.
7/10 - DirectorTodd Strauss-SchulsonStarsTaissa FarmigaMalin AkermanAdam DevineA young woman grieving the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s, finds herself pulled into the world of her mom's most famous movie. Reunited, the women must fight off the film's maniacal killer.I love this movie! This movie is a homage and a spoof to slasher movies in general. I think I can describe this movie as The Cabin in the Woods meets Pleasantville. I love the humor and all the homage and I love how colorful this movie is. If you like both of the movies mentioned above, please try this movie out.
7/10 - DirectorRidley ScottStarsMatt DamonJessica ChastainKristen WiigAn astronaut becomes stranded on Mars after his team assume him dead, and must rely on his ingenuity to find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive and can survive until a potential rescue. This is a phenomenal science fiction movie. The art direction is very beautiful and effective, the script is funny and sharp, and the actings are really great. This is better than Gravity in my opinion.
9/10 - DirectorWes BallStarsDylan O'BrienKaya ScodelarioThomas Brodie-SangsterAfter having escaped the Maze, the Gladers now face a new set of challenges on the open roads of a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. The first movie was such an unexpectedly good movie that I can't help to be excited about the second movie. Unfortunately, this one is a little bit messy. The plot is jumbled up and all over the place but overall it is not that bad. The action sequences are really good and the set pieces are also good. I like this better than Insurgent, but it is just such a shame that it can't be as good as the first.
6/10 - DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsOlivia DeJongeEd OxenbouldDeanna DunaganTwo siblings become increasingly frightened by their grandparents' disturbing behavior while visiting them on vacation.People are saying that this is M. Night Shyamalan's comeback, but I wouldn't go that far. The Visit is a really well directed and well acted little horror movie. I like the weird atmosphere that Shyamalan's did in the movie. We're never quite sure of what to think. The actors all did a very good job and I actually quite liked the found footage aspect of the movie. It is not very scary and there are probably only one or two things that I found scary in the movie but I liked the overall atmosphere of the movie. The buildup to the ending is also quite well done.
6/10 - DirectorNima NourizadehStarsJesse EisenbergKristen StewartConnie BrittonA stoner - who is in fact a government agent - is marked as a liability and targeted for extermination. But he's too well-trained and too high for them to handle. This one is just a generic spy action movie for me. It is harmless, but in a year with a lot of spy action movie coming out, this one is at the bottom of the pile. I enjoyed The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Kingsman The Secret Service more.
6/10 - DirectorGuy RitchieStarsHenry CavillArmie HammerAlicia VikanderIn the early 1960s, CIA agent Napoleon Solo and KGB operative Illya Kuryakin participate in a joint mission against a mysterious criminal organization, which is working to proliferate nuclear weapons. This is a decent spy action movie with decent acting and decent everything else. I enjoyed it, it was fun, but it is so forgettable that I can't even remember who the villain is even though I've just watched it. It's a movie you put on to watch while doing something else.
6/10 - DirectorChristopher McQuarrieStarsTom CruiseRebecca FergusonJeremy RennerEthan and his team take on their most impossible mission yet when they have to eradicate an international rogue organization as highly skilled as they are and committed to destroying the IMF.This is an entertaining follow up in the Mission Impossible franchise with amazing action sequences and charming performance by almost everyone in the cast. The plot is rather predictable and Ghost Protocol is still a better movie in my opinion but nevertheless this movie is worth seeing on the big screen.
7/10 - DirectorJake SchreierStarsNat WolffCara DelevingneAustin AbramsAfter an all-night adventure, Quentin's lifelong crush, Margo, disappears, leaving behind clues that Quentin and his friends follow on the journey of a lifetime.Seeing as Paper Towns is my least favorite John Green book, this movie is surprisingly rather enjoyable. It is a coming of age movie, and not a romance movie like The Fault in Our Stars. I like the pacing of the movie and I think the narration is well done. Nat Wolff did a great job, but I'm not very convinced with Cara Delevigne's acting. Overall, it is an enjoyable movie but nothing too special.
6/10 - DirectorPeyton ReedStarsPaul RuddMichael DouglasCorey StollArmed with a super-suit with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, cat burglar Scott Lang must embrace his inner hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, pull off a plan that will save the world. It is one the better Marvel movies and I enjoyed it. The script is good and funny and Paul Rudd is likable as Ant-Man. Nothing too special or memorable but it is still really enjoyable.
7/10 - DirectorJudd ApatowStarsAmy SchumerBill HaderBrie LarsonHaving thought that monogamy was never possible, a commitment-phobic career woman may have to face her fears when she meets a good guy. When the movie's first started, I didn't think I would like this movie much because the jokes are too crude and I cannot relate to Amy's character at all. As the movie progressed though, the dialogues became more relatable, the characters grows and the dialogues became smarter. The movie has a lot of hearts and truth to it. I cried a couple of times and laughed at lot. Judd Apatow's comedic directing are the best. I love it so much. It is probably one of my favourites of the year.
8/10 - DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school. It's been a while since I've watched a Pixar movie this good. Between Cars sequel (which is mediocre) and Monsters University (which is good, but doesn't quite reach Pixar's best), Pixar is not as good as they used to be. This movie changed all that. Inside Out is funny, full of heart, and also brimming with brilliant ideas and creativity. I was entertained throughout and I loved every minute of it and I cannot wait to see it again. Inside Out is the best Pixar movie since Toy Story 3.
9/10 - DirectorColin TrevorrowStarsChris PrattBryce Dallas HowardTy SimpkinsA new theme park, built on the original site of Jurassic Park, creates a genetically modified hybrid dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, which escapes containment and goes on a killing spree.Regardless of the plot of the movie and the implausible action scenes, this is an entertaining movie through and through. It doesn't quite reach the height of the original, but it still has some Jurassic Park magic in it. The Jurassic World theme park depicted in this movie is majestic and I would love to visit it. Chris Pratt is awesome as the leading man. Hopefully, the inevitable sequels will be better than this, but as a standalone movie, it is a good effort.
7/10 - DirectorKyle BaldaPierre CoffinStarsSandra BullockJon HammMichael KeatonMinions Stuart, Kevin, and Bob are recruited by Scarlet Overkill, a supervillain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world.Oh God, where do I start with this movie. I really do love Despicable Me even though minions are not my favorite part of it. But this movie have no plot at all. It is not funny, there is no funny dialogues and I was bored throughout. Granted, I am probably not the target audience for this but a lot of animated movie before has succeeded in making me laugh. This one though is a miss for me.
5/10 - DirectorLeigh WhannellStarsDermot MulroneyStefanie ScottAngus SampsonA prequel set before the haunting of the Lambert family that reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. The first Insidious was a really well made horror film with a great and scary first half but a mediocre second half. The second Insidious was a disappointment. Picking up exactly where the first one ended, it is filled with needless exposition and ineffective jump scares. The third one is not as good as the first, but better than the second. As with the first Insidious, the first half is well made and really effective as a horror film, but the second half, although entertaining, was not scary anymore.
The biggest problem with this movie though, is that it doesn't have anything to do with the first two movies. There are some scenes that ties with the first two movies but it felt tacked on and unneeded. The ghosts, although effective, doesn't have anything to do with the previous movies and the characters are new characters that have nothing to do with the other two movies (with the exception of the psychic Elise) Overall, it is an entertaining harmless horror movie, but there really is nothing special.
6/10 - DirectorPaul FeigStarsMelissa McCarthyRose ByrneJude LawA desk-bound CIA analyst volunteers to go undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer and prevent diabolical global disaster. It's not often that I found Melissa McCarthy funny, but she is funny in this movie. The joke is consistently funny, with Jason Statham being one of the surprise highlight of this movie. I was afraid that Melissa McCarthy is gonna be the butt of the joke, but thankfully it is not the case here. She is a really great badass and the dialogues are funny and smart.
7/10 - DirectorBrad PeytonStarsDwayne JohnsonCarla GuginoAlexandra DaddarioIn the aftermath of a massive earthquake in California, a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey with his ex-wife across the state in order to rescue his daughter.Well. this movie is exactly what you'd expect. A dumb big budget disaster movie in the vein of 2012. In my opinion, this movie is dumber than 2012. Not a horrible movie, but not a good movie by any means. Lots of illogical things happened here, coupled with passable to bad acting. It's telling that the best acting in this movie comes from The Rock.
5/10 - DirectorBrad BirdStarsGeorge ClooneyBritt RobertsonHugh LaurieBound by a shared destiny, a teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor embark on a mission to unearth the secrets of a place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory.Despite all the bad reviews, I actually really enjoyed this movie. I like the imagination, the set pieces, and the plot for me is enjoyable albeit a little simplistic. I agree with all the reviews that the ending is rather anticlimactic, but for me this movie is still an enjoyable family movie that I can see myself rewatching in the future.
7/10 - DirectorGeorge MillerStarsTom HardyCharlize TheronNicholas HoultIn a post-apocalyptic wasteland, a woman rebels against a tyrannical ruler in search for her homeland with the aid of a group of female prisoners, a psychotic worshiper and a drifter named Max.I thought it was not my kind of movie since it is all action and there's only a few dialogues. I thought wrong. This movie is awesome! It is thrilling and exhilarating and so funny too. The action scenes are great and well directed with great fast pacing and editing. Charlize Theron is such a badass. I love this movie so so much. I really want to see it again even now.
9/10 - DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansMark RuffaloWhen Tony Stark and Bruce Banner try to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program called Ultron, things go horribly wrong and it's up to Earth's mightiest heroes to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plan.I'm not a fan of the first Avengers movie to begin with, but this one is just meh to me. I like the first movie for what it is, but the second one just felt like retracing the same steps to me. Some of the banter between the Avengers are entertaining, but the actual plot is entertaining but utterly forgettable for me. I like Captain America The Winter Soldier more.
6/10 - DirectorLee Toland KriegerStarsBlake LivelyMichiel HuismanHarrison FordA young woman, born at the turn of the 20th century, is rendered ageless after an accident. After many solitary years, she meets a man who complicates the eternal life she has settled into. The first hour of the movie was so enjoyable. The magical atmosphere and the way that the movie tells its story through a narrator is really great and I love Blake Lively's subdued and elegant performance here, along with the beautiful shots of the movie and the beautiful costumes. Sadly, the last half of the movie became a generic romance movie with a disappointing ending. It was still enjoyable, but not too special.
6/10 - DirectorLevan GabriadzeStarsHeather SossamanMatthew BohrerCourtney HalversonA group of online chatroom friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force using the account of their dead friend.I actually like this movie. This teen slasher fic is told entirely through the laptop desktop of a girl and it is surprisingly very effective with the bulk of the dialogues occuring in a skype chat room. There are also little details that I appreciate like the songs that she's listening and her browser history that told me her story without even saying anything.
6/10 - DirectorGeorge Tillman Jr.StarsScott EastwoodBritt RobertsonAlan AldaSophia and Luke make an unexpected and fateful connection with Ira, a 90-years old man, when they save him from a car crash. Ira's memories of his own decades-long romance with his beloved wife deeply inspire the young couple. It's been so long since I've watched any movie adapted from a Nicholas Sparks novel. They were never really good movies to begin with. But surprisingly, The Longest Ride is actually enjoyable for me. Scott Eastwood and Britt Robertson are both very likable and endearing and did a very good job acting very sincerely for this movie. It is an enjoyable romance movie with likable people in it, probably the best Nicholas Sparks adaptation since The Notebook.
7/10 - DirectorRobert SchwentkeStarsShailene WoodleyAnsel ElgortTheo JamesBeatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue her fight against a powerful alliance which threatens to tear her society apart with the help from others on her side.More action-packed than the first movie, but I still like The Hunger Games series more than this one. Insurgent is just not deep enough and Shailene Woodley is not bad-ass enough. And the logic of the faction system is just so flawed to me and somewhat implausible compared to the district system in The Hunger Games. Even The Maze Runner is better for me than this one. It's an entertaining movie and not that bad, but there's nothing special about it either.
6/10 - DirectorSamantha FutermanRyan MiyamotoStarsSkylar AstinAnaïs BordierJacques BordierAdopted from South Korea, raised on different continents & connected through social media, Samantha & Anaïs believe that they are twin sisters separated at birth.I find the story of two South Korean twin sisters separated by birth very fascinating. One is adopted by a couple in LA, and one is adopted by a couple in Paris. I like the 'nature vs nurture' proof, how the sisters are really similar even though they are raised in a totally different place, but also how their experience of adoption made them different. The documentary itself though dragged a bit. The story told in the documentary cannot sustain 90 minutes I think and the middle is so slow and nothing happened. But overally, I enjoyed it.
7/10 - DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsLily JamesCate BlanchettRichard MaddenWhen her father unexpectedly dies, young Ella finds herself at the mercy of her cruel stepmother and her scheming stepsisters. Never one to give up hope, Ella's fortunes begin to change after meeting a dashing stranger. This is the Cinderella that I have always loved when I was a child, but better. I was let down by Maleficent but this Cinderella is really charming. This version of Cinderella is literally a live-action version of the 1960 animated Disney Cinderella, but with more back story and character to it. We understand now why the evil stepmother behave the way she did, and the prince does have personality now. Most importantly, the prince and Cinderella get to know each other before they met at the ball.
This movie is a really classic and traditional fairy tale done right. Because it is a traditional fairy tale, this is not a movie for everyone since Cinderella is still a goody-two-shoes here as always and all the old-fashioned traditional fairy tale tropes are still there, albeit with an update. For women who grew up with the Disney animated movie though, and for little girls who will discover Cinderella for the first time, this is the perfect fairy tale for them. Bonus points for all the beautiful dresses, especially the blue dress for the ball which is just as I imagined it in the animated movie, with skirts that flows and sparkle like diamonds. Such an adorable movie.
7/10 - DirectorSam Taylor-JohnsonStarsDakota JohnsonJamie DornanJennifer EhleLiterature student Anastasia Steele's life changes forever when she meets handsome, yet tormented, billionaire Christian Grey. The book is badly written and the movie is not any better. The acting is barely passable, the chemistry is non-existent, and the dialogues are laughable. But for some reason, I quite enjoy my time watching this. I am totally the target demographic for the movie though, being a women in my early 20s so my enjoyment is biased. The movie reminded me of the time I read and watched Twilight in my teen years. I was swooned by Edward Cullen and was really enjoying it. Fast forward to my adult year and I can't get through a rewatch of the movie or a reread of the book because it is so dumb. In five years I think Fifty Shades of Grey will be like that for me. The soundtracks are amazing though.
5/10 - DirectorOdy C. HarahapStarsAdinia WirastiReza RahadianAdi KurdiA successful Hotel Manager tired being bullied by her parents because she's single and didn't have a plan to get married soon. She then took an extreme move hired an eccentric actor to pretend to become her boyfriend while visiting them.It was really really cliche and some of the parts are really cringe-worthy, but it is harmless and enjoyable enough. This is just a movie that you play in the background while doing something else.
6/10 - DirectorLana WachowskiLilly WachowskiStarsChanning TatumMila KunisEddie RedmayneA young woman discovers her destiny as an heiress of intergalactic nobility and must fight to protect the inhabitants of Earth from an ancient and destructive industry.I knew this movie was bad when around the 30 minute mark I still don't know what the hell is going on. The plot is jumbled up and incoherent, and things happen without any reason whatsoever. There's no character development because people did things without any reason. The dialogues are cheesy and weird it even seems like a parody of itself some of the time. It felt like the dialogues are intended as a joke, but the jokes does not fit. Eddie Redmayne, who is fantastic in The Theory of Everything, gives a weird over-the-top performance that is so unnatural that I even thought maybe he's playing a caricature of himself. There are a lot of fantasy terms and technical terms that The Wachowski brothers have invented for this movie, but they came too many and too fast so I have a hard time keeping up with it. Even if I didn't, there's too much exposition term that is being told to us and not shown. A very weird and cheesy movie.
5/10 - DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsColin FirthTaron EgertonSamuel L. JacksonA spy organisation recruits a promising street kid into the agency's training program, while a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius. The textbook definition of a bloody good time. I didn't quite like Kick-Ass but this one I like. Colin Firth is perfectly cast as a British gentleman working as a spy. Every action scenes are just really fun.
7/10 - DirectorRob CohenStarsJennifer LopezRyan GuzmanKristin ChenowethA woman, separated from her unfaithful husband, falls for a younger man who has moved in next door, but their torrid affair soon takes a dangerous turn.An entertaining but mediocre thriller about a school teacher stalker by her neighbor. Jennifer Lopez is competent in this and it is entertaining enough, but most likely you will soon forget the plot after watching it.
5/10 - DirectorClint EastwoodStarsBradley CooperSienna MillerKyle GallnerNavy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle's pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and turns him into a legend. Back home with his family after four tours of duty, however, Chris finds that it is the war he can't leave behind.Exactly like The Hurt Locker, but less awesome. They're both about a soldier trying hard to adapt to life after the war, with their war life intercepted with their home life. The Hurt Locker gripped me and never let go, while American Sniper is well-made enough, but never had that exceptional quality that The Hurt Locker have. I guess I'm just not a big fan of Clint Eastwood's directing.
7/10 - DirectorJames MarshStarsEddie RedmayneFelicity JonesTom PriorStephen Hawking gets unprecedented success in the field of physics despite being diagnosed with motor neuron disease at the age of 21. He defeats awful odds as his first wife Jane aids him loyally.A well-made, well-acted, and beautiful movie about a brilliant person. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones' acting are flawless, and the tone of the movie is beautiful, but lots of missed opportunity for humanizing the characters (their divorce is barely mentioned and discussed). I hate that Stephen Hawking did what he did and that lessens my enjoyment, but maybe that's just me.
8/10 - DirectorAllison BurnettStarsBritt RobertsonMolly HaganAndy BuckleyA confused teenager writes a blog revealing her daily activities and secrets, advised to do so by her high school guidance counselor in lieu of moving on to her first year in college.I watched this because I really liked Britt Robertson's acting and she is also really good here. The movie is not what I was expecting but in a good way. The movie's about a girl that is just finding herself by exploring her sexuality and Britt Robertson is really great in the role. If you're expecting a generic teen movie, you'll be surprised.
7/10 - DirectorPeter JacksonStarsIan McKellenMartin FreemanRichard ArmitageBilbo and company are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the Lonely Mountain from falling into the hands of a rising darkness. The first movie is a snooze fest with slow-as-a-nail pacing, the second one was better in practically every way, and the third one is just.. meh. It's better than the first, but worse than the second. Too much battle scenes and too much filler. The Hobbit itself is too thin a book to be made into three 3-hour-long movie. Overall, The Hobbit series doesn't have the same magic and epic feeling as The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
6/10 - DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage.Ultimately, what makes The Hunger Games franchise better than all the other dystopian YA out there is that it is never about The Hunger Games. Sure, the hunger games are exciting, but what makes it a good movie is how it subtly and not-so-subtly makes political allegory and satire. And it's never more apparent here. This movie is not for everyone, there's a lot more drama and not enough action to satisfy the average audience, but with impeccable acting and smart dialogues, it is still a must-see movie. The bad news is that all the awesome action and some of the best twist comes on the last half of the book, so Part 2 will be so much better than this one.
7/10 - DirectorDon HallChris WilliamsStarsRyan PotterScott AdsitJamie ChungA special bond develops between plus-sized inflatable robot Baymax and prodigy Hiro Hamada, who together team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.Baymax is so adorable and the movie is entertaining and full of heart. The story is nothing special, and it's not the best movie that Disney ever made, but it's still entertaining.
7/10 - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsMatthew McConaugheyAnne HathawayJessica ChastainWhen Earth becomes uninhabitable in the future, a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, is tasked to pilot a spacecraft, along with a team of researchers, to find a new planet for humans. If you're expecting a great Nolan movie, you'll get it. It's not as good as Inception, but it is epic. The beginning's a little bit slow, but once they went to space, the 169 minutes running time went by so quickly. Obviously the visual is mesmerizing and the acting's top notch, but surprisingly it tugs at your emotion too. Nolan brought lots of epic and far-reaching concepts about outer space, but ultimately didn't bring anything new to the table. If you're used to watching science fiction movie, you'll get the twist within the first half-hour. But in the end, this is one entertaining and well-made movie once again by Christopher Nolan.
8/10 - DirectorGregg ArakiStarsShailene WoodleyEva GreenChristopher MeloniIn 1988, a teenage girl's life is thrown into chaos when her mother disappears.Watched this only for Shailene because this type of movie is usually not my kind of thing. It's basically a coming-of-age movie disguised as a psychological thriller. There are some surprises and some predictable plot, but the acting is consistently good throughout. Shailene is great as usual, but Eva Green's performance is amazing as well.
6/10 - DirectorChristian DitterStarsLily CollinsSam ClaflinChristian CookeRosie and Alex have been best friends since they were 5, so they couldn't possibly be right for one another...or could they? When it comes to love, life and making the right choices, these two are their own worst enemies.Everything in this movie is beautiful. The set and the tone is beautiful. Lily Collins and Sam Claflin are beautiful. But the story itself is rather ordinary. An average british rom-com. If you want to watch a recent well-made british rom-com, watch About Time instead.
6/10 - DirectorJohn R. LeonettiStarsWard HortonAnnabelle WallisAlfre WoodardA couple begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists. Not even remotely scary, with bad special effects and average acting. Full of unimportant exposition and tedious backstory, it's so very very boring. You could cut 3/4th of the movie's tedious backstory and you can still understand what happens. It's not even a disappointment anymore. It's trash.
4/10 - DirectorDavid FincherStarsBen AffleckRosamund PikeNeil Patrick HarrisWith his wife's disappearance having become the focus of an intense media circus, a man sees the spotlight turned on him when it's suspected that he may not be innocent.A very good movie and very well produced. The cinematography is beautiful, the directing is good, and the actors are all good. I like the twisted story and characters. It's not my favorite movie by David Fincher, that will be either The Curious Case of Benjamin Button or The Social Network (though I still have a lot that I love, like Zodiac, Fight Club, The Game, and Panic Room). This is definitely on my love category though.
9/10 - DirectorMax NicholsStarsMiles TellerLio TiptonJessica SzohrA snowstorm forces two people who made an online connection to unwillingly extend their one-night stand as the blizzard goes through the night.Maybe I'm just in the mood for it, but I really really like this rom-com. I like its honesty, and sincere acting from two very earnest and likable people. I like that it's set basically in the same bedroom for the whole movie and it consists of them just talking and getting to know each other. Miles Teller's acting is good as usual. The way he looks at Megan is so sincere. And Analeigh Tipton is also not bad, and very likable.
7/10 - DirectorLone ScherfigStarsSam ClaflinMax IronsDouglas BoothTwo first-year students at Oxford University join the infamous Riot Club, where reputations can be made or destroyed over the course of a single evening. This is a satire of the British high class society, specifically a commentary on the real life secret society in Oxford called Bullingdon Club. It works really well as a satire and it really made me think. The acting was good too but the middle part of the movie drags and takes so long to go anywhere. Overall though, it is a decent movie.
6/10 - DirectorWes BallStarsDylan O'BrienKaya ScodelarioWill PoulterThomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow "runners" for a shot at escape.Another dystopian movie this year, but so far this is the best one. The premise is new and intriguing, unlike Divergent. The ending close all loose ends of the movie, but intrigue you enough for the sequel. The performances of the teenage actors are all competent. The best dystopian teen movie since The Hunger Games.
7/10 - DirectorRowan JoffeStarsNicole KidmanColin FirthMark StrongA woman wakes up every day, remembering nothing as a result of a traumatic accident in her past. One day, new terrifying truths emerge that force her to question everyone around her.A competent thriller with good acting from everyone. I like the premise, sort of a thriller version of 50 first dates. There's a lot of cliche thriller things in it, but overall I like the movie.
7/10 - DirectorMichael SpierigPeter SpierigStarsEthan HawkeSarah SnookNoah TaylorAs his last assignment, a temporal agent is tasked to travel back in time and prevent a bomb attack in New York in 1975. The hunt, however, turns out to be beyond the bounds of possibility.I don't know what to say about this movie. It defies all my expectation going in this movie with the premise "a time travel agent must prevent a bomber". The first hour is essentially a drama but a very very compelling drama that really gripped me with brilliant performance by Sarah Snook. I was wondering where it all fit in with the time travel aspect, but it tied everything up in the last half. The last half of the movie is a different beast altogether. It is brilliant and weird at the same time and I still don't know how to feel about it. There are a couple of times when I paused the movie, just so speechless of the event that unfolds. It's a different experience I can guarantee it.
9/10 - DirectorIsabel CoixetStarsSophie TurnerClaire ForlaniRhys IfansA teenager finds her perfect life upended when she's stalked by a mysterious doppelganger who has her eyes set on assuming her identity.Such a weird movie, and not in a good way. It's trying to be a creepy horror movie but it is just weird and not scary at all. I didn't enjoy it at all but it is not that bad.

The movie don't even come close to that. It's a competent movie and I like it, but the depth of the novel just can't be portrayed well enough in the movie.
6/10 - DirectorSteven QualeStarsRichard ArmitageSarah Wayne CalliesMatt WalshStorm trackers, thrill-seekers, and everyday townspeople document an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes touching down in the town of Silverton.Like a modern day Twister, filmed as a found footage. It's entertaining and watching the storm disaster is exciting. The plot lacks logic and common sense, but it works well enough as a brainless disaster movie.
6/10 - DirectorTrish SieStarsRyan GuzmanBriana EviganAdam SevaniAll-stars from the previous Step Up installments come together in glittering Las Vegas, battling for a victory that could define their dreams and their careers. The plot's just getting worse with every subsequent movie in this franchise. The acting's also bad. And worse of all, the dancing's cool, but not as good as the 3rd and 4th one. I was expecting some epic battle between all of the past movies' main actors, but this is just a mediocre entry to the franchise.
5/10 - DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe. This is unlike any other Marvel movies I've seen. It's space opera through and through. Watching Guardians I'm reminded of a more comedic Mass Effect (the video game), from the world around them to the people inhabiting them. Very very fast paced and entertaining. There's not even a minute wasted in this movie. And the soundtrack is delightfully 80s, I love it to bits. Marvel movies are getting better and better these days.

The two become best friends. But Anna gradually discovers that Marnie is not quite who she appears to be.It's been a while since I've watched a movie from Studio Ghibli and they never disappoint. The animation is beautiful as usual. The story is about a girl who moved to the countryside for the summer because of her social anxiety, when she met a girl named Marnie down by the lake which is there but not quite there at the same time. I love it.
9/10 - DirectorMatt ReevesStarsGary OldmanKeri RussellAndy SerkisThe fragile peace between apes and humans is threatened as mistrust and betrayal threaten to plunge both tribes into a war for dominance over the Earth.A bleak sequel for Rise of the Planet of the Apes. You can clearly feel the post-apocalyptic world with its dilapidated high-rise building and the small pocket of survivors huddled together in San Francisco. What I like most about the movie is it succeeds in making us feel sympathetic and repulsed by both humans and apes. By the end of the movie I'm still not quite sure whether I want the humans to win or the apes. Good movie.
8/10 - DirectorDavid WainStarsPaul RuddAmy PoehlerBill HaderMolly owns a quaint little sweet shop. Joel works for a gigantic candy company threatening to shut her down. How they meet, fall in love, break up and get back together is hilariously recounted in this rom-com spoof. This is a parody of all the tropes commonly found in a romantic comedy movies. I love romantic comedy movies, even the mediocre ones, and I get all of the jokes here. It does not mean that the joke's funny though. For me most of the jokes are just meh and not that funny. Overall, this is just a meh comedy.
5/10 - DirectorMichael BayStarsMark WahlbergNicola Peltz BeckhamJack ReynorWhen humanity allies with a bounty hunter in pursuit of Optimus Prime, the Autobots turn to a mechanic and his family for help. It's exactly what you'd expect. For me this movie is a bit like King Kong. Every time you thought that it's done and the movie's reached its climax, there's always more enemies and more conflicts. It's not a good thing. The movie just does not know when to stop. A couple of the fighting scenes are good, especially the fight in China's apartment complex. It's telling that the fight scene that I like does not even involve robots at all.

I guess I liked it, but I never understood people's fascination with it. The sequel is the same. It's good, well-made, and entertaining, but not particularly memorable for me. Just a good animated movie.
