Horror/Thriller Movies I Actually Liked

I am a huge fan or horror movies. Pretty much since I was a kid, I loved the feeling of being scared! I have seen literally thousands of movies and a huge portion of those were in the horror/science fiction/fantasy genre. Yeah, I need a life, I know.
Of all those movies, I've seen more than my fair share of garbage posing as film while every once and awhile, I've come across a true gem!
This is a short list of some of the more recent horror movies that I really liked for various reasons. More importantly, these are movies that I would recommend to someone else to watch. A good number of these, I like so much as to bear repeated viewing, so I bought them on DVD.
Some people may argue that a couple of these aren't technically "horror" movies, but I believe that they all still have aspects of the genre.
This list is nowhere near complete!

“ I'm a HUGE fan of the original and I was against a remake from the beginning, After watching this though, I changed my mind and felt that it was done well! The story and plot are similar and are pretty logical. It's still gory, but with much better FX and I'm actually looking forward to a sequal ” - Im-not-all-here-myself

“ A VERY differnt variation on the "zombie" and "apocalypse survivor" genres. The acting is great, the set is claustrophobic and the dialogue may seem a bit awkward, but it eventally all makes sense. It's a bit slow at times, but stick with it for a great plot twist! ” - Im-not-all-here-myself

Shortly after delivering a patient to an understaffed hospital, a police officer experiences strange and violent occurrences seemingly linked to a group of mysterious hooded figures. (90 mins.)
“ Odd movie with influences ranging from Stephen King's "The Mist" to Lovecraft. Standard set-up but the real winner here is the creature design! The SFX team used practical effects instead of copping to digital, which makes the various tentacled monsters seem more "real". The creative use of lighting also helps the movie work. It's unusual but worth watching ” - Im-not-all-here-myself

Director: Adam Wingard
“ The primary reason why I'm placing this on my list is to highlight actress Callie Hernandez' great performance. She actually delivers what many actors don't while attempting to portray "terrified"! The film itself is mediocre. Typical jump scares and shaky camera footage. Little in the way of character development. A few scenes work well while several portions come across merely as "filler". Hernandez can also be seen in the film LaLa Land! ” - Im-not-all-here-myself

Miles Grissom offers $30,000 to the first person who can prove to him that we go on after death. (89 mins.)
“ We Go On really isn't a "horror" movie so much as it is a ghost story/life affirming one. Our main character is terrified of dying. So much so that he contacts people to prove the existence of any type of "afterlife". Unfortunately, he gets his proof. The script, acting and direction were all very well done. The story takes awhile to get moving, but it's worth the trip. No extravagant SFX. Just a well written, old fashioned ghost story. ” - Im-not-all-here-myself
