- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsCary GrantGrace KellyJessie Royce LandisA retired jewel thief sets out to prove his innocence after being suspected of returning to his former occupation.Still one of my favourites, great to look at & a fun plot as well. Fairly basic as Hitchcock goes, but Cary Grant is always worth checking out. 7/10 -01/01/14
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsCary GrantIngrid BergmanClaude RainsThe daughter of a convicted German spy is asked by American agents to gather information on a ring of German scientists in South America. How far will she have to go to ingratiate herself with them?Much more like regular Hitchcock-very atmospheric & creepy. Great performance from Bergman, Hitch really knew how to shoot her. 7/10 -01/01/14
- DirectorKevin LimaStarsAmy AdamsSusan SarandonJames MarsdenA young maiden in a land called Andalasia, who is prepared to be wed, is sent away to New York City by an evil Queen, where she falls in love with a lawyer.Cheerful & delightful. Very fun and highly enjoyable. Marsden and Sarandon are both terrific. 6/10 -01/02/14
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJonah HillMargot RobbieBased on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.Really very good. Never knew Martin Scorsese had a comedy in him. Surprisingly funny, with fantastic performances. Brain didn't feel like it was 3 hrs, but my body certainly did. 8/10 -01/03/14
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsEwan McGregorLiam NeesonNatalie PortmanTwo Jedi escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory.Every journey must have a beginning, but does the Star Wars journey's beginning have to suck? The plot isn't bad so much as it is convoluted and poorly paced. The dialogue is exceptionally stilted and wooden-unusual given the number of award winning actors in the cast. But it's really Jar Jar that makes this cringe worthy. 5/10 -01/04/14
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorTen years after initially meeting, Anakin Skywalker shares a forbidden romance with Padmé Amidala, while Obi-Wan Kenobi discovers a secret clone army crafted for the Jedi.Less bad than "Phantom Menace", but still awful dialogue. Fun action sequences and excellent use of bad ass Yoda. Am I the only one who keeps waiting for Jedi Master Windu to let loose the word *beep* 6/10 -01/04/14
- DirectorRobert StevensonStarsJulie AndrewsDick Van DykeDavid TomlinsonIn turn of the century London, a magical nanny employs music and adventure to help two neglected children become closer to their father.Still one one of my favourites. Love everything about it & it makes me happy just to watch. 8/10 -01/05/14
- DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsChristian BaleAmy AdamsBradley CooperA con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild F.B.I. Agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and the Mafia.A little slow-burn for me, but still fun. Amazing performances across the board. Wardrobe and hair are hilarious. 7/10 -01/05/14
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsHayden ChristensenNatalie PortmanEwan McGregorThree years into the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi pursues a new threat, while Anakin Skywalker is lured by Chancellor Palpatine into a sinister plot to rule the galaxy.Better than the other two of the prequel trilogy, but still fairly slow. Fun to watch Hayden Christiansen melt though. 6/10 -01/06/14
- DirectorPhil LottStarsKain JohnsonDramatic and heart-stopping stories of people who've become the sole survivors of disasters are recounted.Looking at the lives of some of the sole survivors of commercial plane crashes. Fairly interesting. but also heartfelt. Significant focus on the American survivors with only one other survivor outside of the US. Not one I'd watch again or really recommend, but it's not bad, it's just not great. 5/10 -01/11/14
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsNicholas HoultStanley TucciEwan McGregorThe ancient war between humans and a race of giants is reignited when Jack, a young farmhand fighting for a kingdom and the love of a princess, opens a gateway between the two worlds.Better than I expected with a fun little twist to the ending. Really good performances but horrible CGI, Brian Singer can do better. 6/10 -01/11/14
- DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader.Holds up shockingly well. Blu-ray transfer looks terrific.-I hadn't seen them since the DVD transfer. Reminded me why I love Harrison Ford. 7/10 -01/11/14
- DirectorIrvin KershnerStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter the Rebel Alliance are overpowered by the Empire, Luke Skywalker begins his Jedi training with Yoda, while his friends are pursued across the galaxy by Darth Vader and bounty hunter Boba Fett.Continuing the awesome that is original series Star Wars. Lots of fun across the board with added points of the fantasicness that is puppet Yoda. Yeah, CGI Yoda can fight, but puppet Yoda is much more expressive and it was hilarious to watch him beat R2D2 with his walking stick. 9/10 -01/12/14
- DirectorRichard MarquandStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherAfter rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, the Rebel Alliance attempt to destroy the second Death Star, while Luke struggles to help Darth Vader back from the dark side.Good ending to the story as it currently stands. Still lots of fun and Luke is certainly less whiny at this point. Poor edits to add Hayden Christensen. 8/10 -01/12/14
- DirectorRandall MillerStarsAlan RickmanMalin AkermanJustin BarthaA look at the New York City punk-rock scene and the venerable nightclub, CBGB.Lots of fun, great soundtrack. Loud and brash, like you would expect for a movie about the original punk venue. 7/10 -01/12/14
- DirectorRené ClairStarsFredric MarchVeronica LakeRobert BenchleyA beautiful 17th-century witch returns to life to plague politician Wallace Wooley, descendant of her persecutor.Fun, but not overly memorable. The plot was a little silly and Veronica Lake's character makes nothing but silly decisions. She is beautiful though. 6/10 -01/13/14
- DirectorRoland EmmerichStarsChanning TatumJamie FoxxMaggie GyllenhaalWhile on a tour of the White House with his young daughter, a Capitol policeman springs into action to save his child and protect the president from a heavily armed group of paramilitary invaders.
- DirectorRodney AscherStarsBill BlakemoreGeoffrey CocksJuli KearnsAn exploration of various interpretations of Stanley Kubrick's horror film, The Shining (1980).Felt like a conspiracy theory website brought to life by reorganizing film clips or like you're a captive audience for some of the craziest people in the world. Analyzing a movie is all well and good, but there is a point where perhaps some people should go watch something else. 4/10 -01/18/14
- DirectorNat FaxonJim RashStarsSteve CarellToni ColletteAllison JanneyShy 14-year-old Duncan goes on summer vacation with his mother, her overbearing boyfriend, and her boyfriend's daughter. Having a rough time fitting in, Duncan finds an unexpected friend in Owen, manager of the Water Wizz water park.A surprising amount of fun with great performances and great comedy. Loved Allison Janney and Sam Rockwell in this. Not at all what you'd expect at all from Community's Dean. 7/10 -01/18/14
- DirectorJ.J. AbramsStarsChris PineZachary QuintoZoe SaldanaAfter the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.Having a Benedict Cumberbatch kind of day. Paired this with lots Sherlock.
- DirectorSofia CoppolaStarsKatie ChangIsrael BroussardEmma WatsonInspired by actual events, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes.A not great movie about stupid and awful people. Movie looked washed out and it made me not like Emma Watson. Just not good all over. 2/10 -01/20/14
- DirectorJoel Allen SchroederStarsBerkeley BreathedJef MallettStephan PastisA documentary about the impact of the newspaper comic strip "Calvin and Hobbes," created by Bill Watterson.Delightful look at everyone's favourtite six year old and his tiger. Didn't really accomplish anything, but it was a nice look at a great comic strip and it's wider impact. 6/10 -01/25/14
- DirectorGarth JenningsStarsMartin FreemanYasiin BeySam RockwellMere seconds before the Earth is to be demolished by an alien construction crew, journeyman Arthur Dent is swept off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher penning a new edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsRobert DonatMadeleine CarrollLucie MannheimA man in London tries to help a counter-espionage agent, but when the agent is killed and the man stands accused, he must go on the run to save himself and stop a spy ring that is trying to steal top-secret information. One of my favourite classic Hitchcock movies. Story takes a slightly off kilter turn, but it's lots of fun and a good mystery. 7/10 -01/26/14
- DirectorMichael Patrick JannStarsKirsten DunstDenise RichardsEllen BarkinA small-town beauty pageant turns deadly as it becomes clear that someone will go to any lengths to win.One of the best mockumentaries out there. Hilarious work from Alley, Dunst, and Janney. 8/10 -01/26/14
