“ ~~serious spoiler alert!~~

while i really love period crime dramas and female leads this show makes me angry on both accounts. the series is set in 1950ies yet it features a full-on sexist characters and a female protagonist that is horribly coy and unappealing. there is real potential in filming such a story and yet it turns out disastrously shallow. it's 1950ies not 1750ies, meaning it's set in the period following WWII where women did already prove themselves as more than child bearing housewives, although that's not to say that the sexism didn't linger on but still.. so, that aside, what about the female protagonist? so far away from a strong character, and this i find particularly disappointing - can only blame the scriptwriters, there's nothing wrong with the acting but the way the characters are portrayed is plain horrid. and on top of it all this supposed to be strong female lead with a strong pioneering streak falls for the first senior officer she sees, seriously? therefore in no time it turns into clichéd soap opera making it impossible for the main protagonist to gain any respect or integrity in the future. somehow i feel that love interests and love triangles and all that drama comes as a time-filler when story has no other options but to rely on cheap fanservice. not cool. ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ crime series that follows ken stott as dci red metcalfe. i remember seeing only the first installments over a decade ago on tv, but if the rest of the series was as grim and bleak as the first season - then all the more reason to revisit it at some point in the future. ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ modern adaptation of sherlock holmes with brilliant cast and scriptwriting. cumberbatch succeeds in coming close to jeremy brett's portrayal by pulling off to be equal parts brilliant and arrogant but uniquely damaged and socially autistic. this series made me sincerely happy for a whole year after i saw the first season. ” - whateverswrongwithme

UK version of the long-running U.S. TV drama that tells the stories of two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime; and the attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. (46 mins.)
“ this is imho the first show to fail in british remake of the original franchise. where usa versions have this natural flow this version feels rushed and unfit for 45min time limit. at points it looks like characters are speed-racing their lines trying to fit as many lines as possible in as little time as possible. it would be intriguing to try again but heavily relying on shows like prime suspect, accused, the helen west casebook or the commander. ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ it showed such great promise. i never liked matthew mcconaughey but imho this was the greatest role of his career. except the end. the plot was great. except the end. the possibilities of a second or even a third season were limitless. if it did follow the yellow king premise it could have gone all-out and descended step by step into madness. still, pretty good. except the end. ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ so this series is supposed to be a time-slot filler after l&o:svu and has this overwhelming disregard for law, team effort and crime as such. this is a poorly maneuvered one-guy-vigilante-style-policing-show that i guess was supposed to be all shades of gray but ultimately fails to accomplish anything. ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ ooh i kinda love everything about this show. the carefully written characters portrayed by brilliant cast repositioning between impressionistic and renaissance chiaroscuro setting (although, that's just my impression, does not have to be correct). i am not well versed in such matters but it is obvious that there is a fine aesthetic line cinematography abides by and it is thrilling to watch. cannot say much about the story because it had not yet began unfolding, but it shows such great promise. i am thankful. ” - whateverswrongwithme

42.
Game of Thrones (2011 TV Series)

“ i love the books. guess there isn't a list without this show.

but PLEASE STOP RECASTING different people for reoccurring characters. it's high fantasy and it needs to be consistent - otherwise it breaks the magic it managed to capture.

and PLEASE STOP CHANGING THE STORY. and by that i do not mean the time shuffle but logical alterations that keep appearing time and time again. it's insulting. and it's short-sighted. and it finally made me stop watching.

yeah, i know it WAS great, but it could have been even better. and i know i'm ranting but this feeling of disillusionment just won't go away. disappointment is a bitter feeling, especially when there was no apparent need for it (even though i am aware of all the possible counterarguments). ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ i am a huge fan of the graphic novel. it was always obvious that there is no chance anyone would actually faithfully portray the novel for wide audiences because of it's truly psychologically dark and horrifying narrative. and so, the first two seasons were truly disappointing. and then it actually got back on track. still miles away, but much much better. this is a brilliant story on all accounts. it's a sociological experiment of a kind, what happens to society in a world that has no imposed constraints? ” - whateverswrongwithme

“ this series has serious potential but it is hard to say will it tap into it eventually or not. will it dare delve deeper into critique of present and presented future systems relied and defined heavily by capitalism? will it dare tackle properly anarchy and/or different ideologies? will it create characters that are neither heroes nor villains but essentially all shades of human? this show has elements that can be shaped and elaborated on all accounts and strike truer and deeper into present and future dystopias in an intelligent, adult and provocative way while remaining entertaining. therefore, this is a plea to the scriptwriters, producers and directors - please please make it thought provoking, do not fall short from greatness. ” - whateverswrongwithme
