Joanna Lumley was born on 1 May, 1946 in Kashmir, India, to British parents, Thya Beatrice Rose (Weir) and James Rutherford Lumley. Her father was a major in the Gurkha Rifles, and she spent most of her early childhood in the Far East where her father was posted.
An aspiring actress, she first came to fame as a model in London's swinging 1960s, where she was photographed by the greats, including her friend, the late Patrick Lichfield. She was designer Jean Muir's muse and house model for several years before carving a career as a freelance model where she became one of the top ten most-booked models of the 1960s.
Lumley's breakthrough role was as Purdey in The New Avengers (1976), a role for which over 800 girls auditioned. Purdey propelled Lumley to instant fame and created one of the "must-have" hairstyles of the 1970s -- the Purdey bob. Lumley became a pin-up figure for a generation of British males who grew up watching her as the high-kicking action girl.
Other roles followed, most notably as Sapphire in Sapphire & Steel (1979) opposite David McCallum -- a sci-fi precursor to The X-Files (1993) and an under-rated gem of a series which has gained a cult following in recent years, despite the fact it has only ever been shown ONCE on terrestrial TV. During the 1980s, Lumley returned to the theater, making notable appearances as "Hedda Gabler" and as "Elvira" in "Blithe Spirit" -- a role that seems tailor-made for her. Lumley also made appearances in several films, including Trail of the Pink Panther (1982), Curse of the Pink Panther (1983), and a screen-stealing role in Shirley Valentine (1989).
It was her reinvention as a comic actress in Absolutely Fabulous (1992) that shot Lumley to wider international acclaim. Her role as Patsy in Absolutely Fabulous (1992) is regarded as one of the greatest female comic performances ever, earning Lumley a stream of awards, including several BAFTAs. Since Absolutely Fabulous (1992), Lumley has cemented her role as one of the UK's most-loved & respected actresses. She is rarely off UK TV screens and has also built a successful film career as a character/voice-over actress.
She recently teamed up with the writer/director Hugo Blick for the series of acclaimed monologues Up in Town (2002) which were critically regarded as the performance of a lifetime, and the recent Sensitive Skin (2005).
In 2007, she returned to the stage for the first time in over a decade in a production of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard", directed by Sir Jonathan Miller.- Actress

The striking actress Anna Maxwell-Martin is a rising star on both stage and screen. Anna had dreamed all her life of becoming an actress even though her family had no background in the arts. She starred in school plays and an acclaimed production of "Breezeblock Park" in the role of Betty.
At the age of 20, she auditioned for the prestigious Royal Academy Of Dramatic Art, the school she had dreamed of attending since childhood but unfortunately, she wasn't accepted. Undeterred, she applied for the London Academy Of Dramatic Art, where she was accepted. Alumni include Donald Sutherland, Rita Wilson, Anthony Head (aka Anthony Stewart Head), Natascha McElhone, plus hundreds more.
While she was training at LAMDA, her father died. Anna wanted to be strong and complete her training, as she was sure her father would have wanted. She used the emotions she felt to breathe life into the more emotional parts she was playing in the plays in which she performed while at drama school including the lead in "Romeo and Juliet," "Three Birds Alighting on a Field," "Much Ado About Nothing," "Mother Clap," and "The Way of the World".
Upon successful completion of the three-year acting program, Anna at age 24 embarked upon a career that has built up gradually over the past four years. She starred in the Trevor Nunn-helmed "Coast of Utopia" and "Dumb Show" at the Royal Court in London with Terry Johnson, but her moment of glory on stage so far has to be her Olivier award-nominated performance in the adaptation of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" as the 12-year-old heroine Lyra.
Though has worked extensively on stage, Anna has graced the big and small screen. Guest appearances in Midsomer Murders (1997) and opposite Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper in Doctor Who (1963) and most recently she can be seen in the role of Esther Summerson in the BBC's adaptation of Charles Dickens's book Bleak House (2005) starring Denis Lawson, Johnny Vegas, and Gillian Anderson.
Her film credits include The Hours (2002) with Nicole Kidman, the four-parter BBC drama North & South (2004) as Bessie Higgins, and Penny in Enduring Love (2004) alongside James Bond star Daniel Craig and transatlantic star Rhys Ifans.- Actress

Her dancing career started in Leicestershire where her father worked in an aircraft factory. She went into pantomime as a chorus girl and eventually became known when she did a chocolate commercial which led to work on television and films, Despite what other people say she doesn't think that shes a good dancer. She met actor Peter Gilmore and became engaged to him in 1953 and married in 1958 and live in Radlett, Hertfordshire. Her ambitions are to have a family, and to pass her advanced driving test. She makes some of her own clothes,- Known for her small yet earthy Brit portrayals on film, Eleanor Summerfield was born in London on March 7, 1921, initially trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (1937). The hard-looking, blue-eyed blonde began in films in 1947 but created some waves first on stage opposite Cicely Courtneidge in "Her Excellency" at the London Hippodrome in 1949. She followed that with a top role in a rather mediocre musical entitled "Golden City." Musicals would be a strong suit for her in the ensuing years, including a more glamorous role in "When in Rome" (1959) alongside June Laverick. Summerfield made her last West End musical in 1974 in a show based on the cartoon characters of Osbert Lancaster. A popular radio actress and a regular on BBC Radio Four panel show "Many a Slip," she positively shone on TV in a number of comedy series as she entered her matronly years. She had the difficult task of replacing Dora Bryan in the established program "Our Dora" when Bryan abruptly left the series after the sudden death of her first child. Soon retitled My Wife's Sister (1956), the show, and Summerfield, succeeded quite well. During her five-decade career, she added bite to a number of films, often raucous comedies, including Laughter in Paradise (1951), Uncle Willie's Bicycle Shop (1953), Dentist in the Chair (1960), On the Fiddle (1961) and Some Will, Some Won't (1970), which was a remake of the earlier film Laughter in Paradise (1951). Wed to actor Leonard Sachs in 1947, they produced two sons; one son, Robin Sachs, became an actor in his own right. Her husband died in 1990, and Summerfield followed him a decade later on July 13, 2001, in London. She was 80.
