1. Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)
321 min | Action, Crime, Drama
A clash between Sultan and Shahid Khan leads to the expulsion of Khan from Wasseypur, and ignites a deadly blood feud spanning three generations.
On the whole, Gangs of Wasseypur symbolizes the fearless new Indian cinema that shatters the clichés and conventional formulas, something which Anurag Kashyap has come to be acknowledged for. It has all the trappings of an entertainer, but with a difference. The film prides itself with substance that connects with enthusiasts of new-age cinema. But, I wish to restate, one needs to have a really strong belly to soak up to a film like Gangs of Wasseypur. Also, this striking movie-watching experience comes with a colossal length and duration. The reactions, therefore, would be in extremes. Gangs of Wasseypur is for that segment of spectators who seek pleasure in watching forceful, hard-hitting and gritty movies.
2. Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001)
PG | 224 min | Adventure, Drama, Musical
The people of a small village in Victorian India stake their future on a game of cricket against their ruthless British rulers.
Votes: 84,318 | Gross: $0.07M
Lagaan is an enormously entertaining movie, like nothing we've ever seen before, and yet completely familiar… At the same time, it's a memory of the films we all grew up on, with clearly defined villains and heroes, a romantic triangle, and even a comic character who saves the day. Lagaan is a well-crafted, hugely entertaining epic that has the spice of a foreign culture.

Votes: 30,801 | Gross: $3.50M
SLB is a god gifted director to bollywood and i am again spellbound by his work. He is the only director who can remake a super hit 1960s movie in 2002 with the same essence. This movie was marvelously made with a powerful star cast with mesmerizing scenes, dialogues and music at the same time.
Aishwarya rai has done her best and Madhuri was the same refreshing as 8 years ago. Shahrukh khan to put his best and this makes this movies unforgettable.
I consider this movie as one of the best movies made in India. I recommend this movie to everyone because even after the end, this movie won't get out of your mind.
4. Veer-Zaara (2004)
Not Rated | 192 min | Drama, Family, Musical
A guy is forced to withheld his identity for the love of his life.
Votes: 40,818 | Gross: $2.92M
Love stories come and go, films become hits and flops; but eternal love stories and immortal films are what stay alive in the hearts of movie lovers. Veer-Zaara is the majestic tale of two people, whose love for one another crosses into the realm of inspirational devotion. Veer and Zaara…two names detached by the wraths of religion…two entities divided by military and national borders…two forms estranged by miles of expansive distance…one soul joined by sacrificial love…one existence…Veer-Zaara.
5. Sholay (1975)
Not Rated | 162 min | Action, Adventure, Comedy
After his family is murdered by a notorious and ruthless bandit, a former police officer enlists the services of two outlaws to capture the bandit.
Excellent Acting. (Even the extra's where excellent)
And it has much genres, who are handled very well in this movie: Action/Comedy/Romance/Drama/Adventure/Thriller (not really, but a kind of Thriller)/Musical/Crime. Each word of this movie is excellent. I think it has the greatest story ever! I was hurted when i came to know that Mr. Ram Gopal Varma is remaking this classic... Despite becoming the most successful film of its time, it failed to win any major popular or critics awards. The lone Filmfare award it got went to M.S. Shinde for Best editing. The plot is about a retired police officer Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar) who hires two convicts Veeru and Jai (Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan) to capture Gabbar Singh (a Dacoit) who had killed the cop's entire family (except the cop and his daughter-in-law).
6. Raajneeti (2010)

When the American-educated scion of a powerful Indian family returns to the subcontinent, his first taste of power starts him down a corrupt path.
Votes: 13,640 | Gross: $1.44M
A cocktail of Mahabharat and Godfather. Perfectly a path breaker to create an engrossing diatribe on India's political system where democracy may prevail, but not in its purest form.
7. Rockstar (2011)
Not Rated | 159 min | Drama, Music, Musical
Janardhan Jakhar chases his dreams of becoming a big Rock star, during which he falls in love with Heer.
Votes: 30,789 | Gross: $0.99M
Rockstar is a simple, unspectacular tale, sometimes even predictable, but director Imtiaz Ali masterfully weaves in details that draw us in and Ranbir is in his best.

In India there are only two periods which drove the youth into ideological confrontation , first during the freedom struggle and the second during 70s when the youth could not bear to see the fruits of freedom struggle being frittered away. Now this is where this movie treads. While there has been many movies on the 70s but not many has dealt with the subject as political as this.
10. Satya (1998)
Not Rated | 170 min | Action, Crime, Drama
An innocent man is embroiled in underworld after being falsely charged and sets out to punish the perpetrators who subjected his life to misery.
It's an old-fashioned morality tale that, for a change, goes beyond the 'Bang Bang, you're dead' genre of local gangster movies. On the contrary, Satya is far more sophisticated and credible precisely because it attempts to penetrate and analyse the 'Whys' of criminality with a touch that's assured and insightful. It was far too intelligent and intense a film to break records at the box office—which is a pity. It deserves to do just that.
11. Yeh Saali Zindagi (2011)
130 min | Crime, Drama, Thriller
Gangsters kidnap the prospective son-in-law of a politician in order to secure the release of an imprisoned gang-member.
Dark, devious and different, Yeh Saali Zindagi is brain-and-brawn drama
12. LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010)
Not Rated | 155 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
A video camcorder, a store security camera, and concealed cameras candidly expose lives in three loosely-linked tales.
Dibakar Banerjee's Love, Sex aur Dhoka is the most riveting Hindi film in recent memory. You will be shocked, you will be startled, but walking out of the theatre, you know you have just seen what is possibly the most important Hindi film since Satya and Dil Chahta Hai. Not only does it redefine the concept of "realistic cinema", it opens a world of possibilities in terms of how you can shoot films now.

Not Rated | 189 min | Drama

Votes: 67,654 | Gross: $1.22M
After Lagaan, what? The answer's blowing in the wind. Swades. Here's the verdict: This is a gusty and outstanding film. Welcome back to real, solid film-making. If Aamir why not 'KING KHAN"?

As the kingdom of Devigarh comes apart at the seams, an aging bodyguard attempts to protect the Royal Family, as well as keep its darkest secrets from ever coming to light.
Votes: 2,799 | Gross: $1.10M
EKLAVYA – THE ROYAL GUARD is an opulent film, with a gargantuan cast, gripping story seeped in Indian emotions and values, striking visuals and topnotch making as its trump cards. Without a shred of doubt, it's one of the finest products to come out of the Hindi film industry.
16. Gangaajal (2003)
157 min | Crime, Drama
An IPS officer motivates and leads a dysfunctional, corrupt police force of Tezpur to fight against the corrupt politician.
Firstly I must say I was very, very impressed with the realism of the whole atmosphere throughout the film, the initial setting is enough to engage your whole mind to the screen. Well, what makes the film shine so much? there are about several reasons.Ajay Devgan gives his very best performance here, as he did in 'Legend of Bhagat Singh'. Devgan manages to capture every emotion possible, by a man who is a policeman but also a human being, Gracy Singh does a decent work as well, despite having very brief appearance. Apart from Devgan's powerhouse performance, it's practically the whole cast that deserves to be applauded for doing justice to their various roles as well, above all Manoj Joshi and Yashpal Sharma deliver brilliant performances that just breathes even more life into the film. There is not a single cast actor who hasn't done any justice to his character, therefore 'Gangajal' is a small masterpiece and one of the rare gems of Bollywood drama. because of its honest team work by the whole cast and crew. A film you simply cannot ignore. Without a doubt, it's a 9.7 out of 10!
17. Maqbool (2003)
132 min | Crime, Drama
The intrigue of the Shakespearean tragedy 'Macbeth' is transposed to the Mumbai underworld.
visual gallery that is an intelligent blend of dark, tragic overtones and comic, satirical undertones
18. Kaminey (2009)
130 min | Action, Comedy, Crime
The desperate lives of two estranged twin brothers converge over missing drugs, politics, racial prejudice, corrupt cops and an unplanned pregnancy.
Votes: 14,138 | Gross: $1.29M
It's an unpredictable crime drama that combines violence and dark humor in a manner that's reminiscent of the films of Quentin Tarantino, Guy Ritchie and the Coen Brothers. And yet Kaminey is so original and inventive in the manner in which it takes Bollywood's favorite formula - twin brothers - and turns it on its head. The real strength of Kaminey is its writing. The non-linear screenplay is filled with unfamiliar twists and confusing turns that are likely to baffle you along the way; yet they're all neatly tied up and culminate in a thrilling climax which is violent and comical in equal parts and the film's dialogue is top-notch; writer-director Vishal Bharadwaj finds a way to make the lines humorous without ever seeming to ask for a laugh. Kaminey boasts the best performance you will see by an ensemble cast in a long time, and that includes even the bit players and With unchoreographed action scenes and dances, and long portions with no background score at all, it's a wildly imaginative, original offering from a fearless filmmaker who doesn't insult your intelligence.
19. Baazigar (1993)
R | 175 min | Crime, Drama, Musical
A young man with a vendetta against a business tycoon seduces and kills his eldest daughter and then proceeds to his younger daughter but she begins to suspect her new lover's ulterior motive.
I grew up watching many a Shah Rukh Khan film and after watching this I am an even greater fan of his acting. This films proves how versatile of an actor he is. I won't reveal much of the plot but if you've seen A Kiss Before Dying starring Matt Dillon you'll somewhat get the picture.
At one moment, you experience the fun, lovable, and illuminating essence that SRK is known for. At another moment, you see SRK as an evil, obsessive, and enraged force to be reckoned with.
If you want to experience a film which has both styles of SRK then watch this. It's not a perfect Bollywood film. There are a few flaws with the special effects and it gets gory towards the end but you will enjoy yourself and you will be asking yourself, "How does SRK pull this off?
20. Darr (1993)
Not Rated | 178 min | Drama, Romance, Thriller
Darr is a girl's (Kiran) story caught between one man's (Sunil) love and another man's (Rahul) obsession.
So many times, Bollywood has tried to remake Hollywood hits, only to produce total duds. Mercifully, Yash Chopra's interpretation of "Sleeping with the Enemy" is an extremely stylish and well-made films.
Shah Rukh Khan is obsessed with Juhi Chawla (who's looking her very best in here!). When he realizes that Juhi has a fiance in Sunny Deol, he stops at nothing to make sure she becomes his.
Every frame of this film is a delight to watch. Whether it's Shah Rukh chanting his trademark "I love you, K...k...k...kiran!" or the feel-good mushy scenes between Sunny and Juhi (who make a perfect match), you won't feel like leaving your eat in boredom.
21. 3 Idiots (2009)
PG-13 | 170 min | Comedy, Drama
Two friends are searching for their long lost companion. They revisit their college days and recall the memories of their friend who inspired them to think differently, even as the rest of the world called them "idiots".
Votes: 259,766 | Gross: $6.53M
It's not that 3 Idiots is a flawless work of art. But it is a vital, inspiring and life-revising work of contemporary art with some heart imbued into every part. In a country where students are driven to suicide by their impossible curriculum, 3 Idiots provides hope. Maybe cinema can't save lives. But cinema, sure as hell, can make you feel life is worth living. 3 Idiots does just that, and much more. The director takes the definition of entertainment into directions of social comment without assuming that he knows best. The film is a laugh riot, despite being high on fundas.
22. Dabangg (2010)
Not Rated | 126 min | Action, Comedy, Crime
A corrupt police officer faces challenges from his family, gangsters and politicians.
Votes: 23,160 | Gross: $4.63M
On the whole, Dabangg is a full on entertainer with three aces - Salman Khan like never before, stylish action and super music.
23. Guzaarish (2010)
126 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance
A paralyzed Magician-turned-Radio Jockey files a Petition in Court seeking permission to end his life.
Votes: 13,721 | Gross: $1.02M
Guzaarish is a Hrithik Roshan film, which salvages, to some extent, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. In motion, his on-stage moves are real magic. In suspended animation, he is able to channelise every emotion in the book through his eyes.
24. Agneepath (1990)
Not Rated | 174 min | Action, Crime, Drama
A young boy's quest for revenge leads him to become a gangster as an adult, and with each day he becomes more and more like his enemies. Can he find vengeance and redemption?
Agneepath, despite its amplified sentimentality, strong language and violence works on account of this very dynamism. Agneepath is deliriously melodramatic. The first thirty minutes, the prologue of the film if you will, in the village of his youth, ranks among the best openings of any Bollywood film I've ever seen. Afterwards, when most Bollywood films crank it down for some syrupy romance or goofy comedy, Agneepath plops its adult protagonist right in the middle of a gang fight. Often a film has a great set piece at the beginning, then deflates by the end, but Agneepath continues amping up the conflict from beginning to end, from riots in a village to riots in a city to mudfights in the slums to swordfights in the middle of a festival.
25. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Not Rated | 155 min | Adventure, Comedy, Drama
Three friends decide to turn their fantasy vacation into reality after one of their number becomes engaged.
Votes: 51,877 | Gross: $3.08M
A feel good film with a glittering star cast and amazing camera work. Funny dialogues and the chemistry between the three leads make ZNMD an enjoyable experience.
