Born in Timmins, Ontario, Lights lived in the Philippines and Jamaica during her elementary school years. Lights' mother home schooled the kids; but, one day a week the singer's father would take over.
In 1997, the family moved back to Canada and almost immediately, nine year old Lights got her hands on a guitar. By 11 years old, she had learned a handful of chords, which she used to write her first song. Then, at 13 years old she turned her attention to production.
As a teenager Lights spent much of her time writing songs up in her attic bedroom, which she dubbed Starry Night studios after her favorite Van Gogh painting. By 18 years old, Lights had moved out of her parents' house and was living in Toronto with only her pet tarantula Lance to keep her company. In this state of near-isolation Lights finally found her signature sound- a merging of classic pop songwriting with deeply intimate yet universally appealing lyrics. She wrote "February Air," a poignant ode to the chill of winter love, which became the first of four Lights songs used by Old Navy in the company's 2008 spring ad campaign.
Though her star was clearly on the rise, it was Lights' online profile that really solidified her fan base. Between the singer's MySpace page (which to date has over eight million visits and fifteen million plays) her personal web site iamLights and her passion for web-based fantasy games like World of Warcraft, the artist's online identity is as evolved as your nerdiest teenage boy's and this is something she's very proud of. On April 22, 2008, Lights released her self-titled EP. It contained six songs including "February Air," which reached No.3 on the MuchMusic countdown in Canada, as well as the epic "Drive My Soul," which was an even bigger hit; the song was added to radio without being serviced, climbed all the way to No.1 on Much Music, and spent over three months in the Top 20 on Hot AC radio. On the strength of her EP alone, Lights won the 2009 Juno (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy Award) for New Artist of the Year, joining the ranks of Feist and Nelly Furtado.
The singer's rapidly growing fan base was clamoring for live Lights shows so she hit the road, playing countless sold out gigs in her home country, as well as numerous festival dates in the UK. In addition to touring extensively through the United States, Lights spent five weeks on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour and joined Keane on their 2009 Canadian tour.
Lights' first full-length studio debut, The Listening, was released on September 22, 2009. It included a few songs already familiar to die-hard Lights fans, as well as plenty of new material including the tracks, keyboard-driven new wave ballad "Saviour" (peaked at No.38 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Chart) and yearning '90s R&B-infused "Second Go" (Peaked at No.54 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Chart). The Listening reached No.7 on the Billboard Canadian Albums Chart.
Around this time, Lights sang on Ten Second Epic's song "Everyday" and appeared in their music video. The song was featured on the Big Shiny Tunes 14 and was even nominated for Best Independent Music Video at the 2010 MuchMusic Video Awards. She also sang guest vocals on final track "The End" for Silverstein's 2009 album A Shipwreck in the Sand. She was even featured on the soundtrack (tracks "Ben" and "Climbing") for the Canadian film One Week (starring Joshua Jackson).
From January to May 2010, she toured with Owl City in Canada, the United States and Europe. She was a guest vocalist on "The Yacht Club" on their 2011 album All Things Bright and Beautiful and appeared in their music video for "Deer In The Headlights".
In July 2010, Lights released her an acoustic EP, Acoustic, and performed the track list at the University of Waterloo. Where she gained most of her inspiration for the album. The tracklist included three songs from the Listening: "Saviour", "River", and "February Air", an unreleased song "Romance Is...", and a cover of Rancid's "Fall Back Down". In September of that year, she joined Hedley for the leg of the eight-show Ontario leg of their Canadian tour The Show Must Go... On The Road, along with These Kids Wear Crowns. Later on, she appeared as a guest vocalist on tracks "Crucify Me" and "Don't Go" for Bring Me The Horizon's 2010 album There Is A Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is A Heaven Let's Keep It A Secret.
In October 2010, she released a digital single "My Boots", which is about her love for winter. The song was supposed to be included in the track list for her second studio album but was later cut. Around that same time, she began a tour with Jeremy Fischer. In November, she was awarded a trophy by the Canadian Recording Industry Association for, The Listening, gaining a gold certification from achieving 40,000 units in sales.
At the Utopia Music Festival in June 2011, Lights premiered three new songs: "Toes", "Where The Fence Is Low", and "Everybody Breaks A Glass". "Toes" was released as a single in August to promote her second studio album, Siberia. Around that time, she signed with Last Gang Records. Label executives showed concerns regarding her transitioning in style to a more gritty sound delayed the album's release until October 4, 2011 in Canada and the United States, and a month later in Australia. Siberia debuted at No.3 on the Canadian Albums Chart and sold 10,000 units in one week. It received positive reviews and a nomination for a 2012 Juno Award for Best Pop Album of The Year. The album sales surpassed 40,000 units and gained a gold certification on April 27, 2012.
Around the time Siberia was released, Lights announced her engagement to Beau Bokan, lead vocalist of metalcore band blessthefall, in September 2011. They got married on May 12, 2012 and got matching tattoos to commemorate their wedding date.
In March of 2013, she released an acoustic version of "Cactus In The Valley" featuring Owl City, as a single in the UK. A month later, Siberia Acoustic, was released and topped at No.7 in Canada. The acoustic also included collaborations from Max Kerman (vocalist of Arkells) and Coeur de Pirate. Lights toured North America to promote the album, with (alternating dates) opening acts Dear Rouge and Lianne La Havas.
Later that year in November 2013, Lights and her husband Beau Bokan announced they were expecting their first child. Their daughter Rocket Wild Bokan was born on February 15, 2014.
In July of 2014, "Up We Go", the lead single from her third studio album became available for download. The song peaked at No.31 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Chart and became her second-highest charting single (behind "Drive My Soul" which peaked at No.18). Little Machines, her third studio album, was released on September 23, 2014 in the United States and Canada. It debuted at No.5 in Canada. In early 2015, "Running With The Boys" received radio play as the second single, while "Portal" and "Same Sea" received promotional releases. Little Machines won a 2015 Juno Award for Best Pop Album of The Year.
In October of 2014, she parted ways with long-time manager Jian Ghomeshi after accusations of which he abused and sexually assaulted multiple women.
She toured extensively in 2015 to promote Little Machines. Lights released an acoustic EP, Midnight Machines, on April 8, 2016. The album included six acoustic versions of songs from Little Machines and two new songs: "Follow You Down" and "Head Cold".
In April of 2017, she announced her upcoming fourth studio album, Skin&Earth. Alongside the album, a comic series drawn and written by Lights was released, one song per issue. New music was released on a monthly base until the album was entirely released. Josh Dun, drummer of Twenty One Pilots, collaborated on tracks "Savage" and "Almost Had Me". One of the lead tracks "Giants" and its accompanying music video was released on June 23, 2017. The song topped at No.18 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart. Lights later released versions of the song in French, Japanese, Tagalog and Spanish. The album was officially released on September 22, 2017. It topped at No.3 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart and won a 2018 Juno Award for Best Pop Album of The Year.
In January of 2018, she kicked the start of the We Were Here Tour with supporting acts Chase Atlantic and DCF. 46 shows were played across North America in promotion of Skin&Earth. Later in October of that year, she joined Young The Giant's fall tour as the supporting act.
Lights collaborated with DeadMau5 on his track "Drama Free", later the song was released on Mau5ville: Level 2 EP. She also sang on Felix Cartal's "Love Me" and Sleepy Tom's "Amateurs" in early 2019.
Lights announced she signed to Fueled By Ramen on May 12, 2019. Later, she released the acoustic version of Skin & Earth and promoted the album with a North American tour. The album was released on July 12, 2019, which included three new songs.
In June 2020, she self-released on Bandcamp a seven-track synthwave album How To Sleep When You're On Fire. All the proceeds made from this album were donated to Black Lives Matter Vancouver. Lights stated about the album: "I made a night-time instrumental synthwave album over the last few weeks of sleeplessness. Loads of chill vibes. Kind of like an island cave, but with an arcade in it."
Lights released the song "Dead End" and its music video on July 9, 2020. This track is included in a remix album, titled the same name which was released the next month, on August 7, 2020.
In April of 2021, Lights began releasing music under the alias Lun (A character who came from her 2017 comic Skin&Earth). She stated "Lun is a musician in the Skin&Earth universe. Lady Gaga, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is an American songwriter, singer, actress, philanthropist, dancer and fashion designer.
Gaga was born on March 28, 1986 in Manhattan, New York City, to Cynthia Louise (Bissett), a philanthropist and business executive, and Joseph Anthony Germanotta, Jr., an internet entrepreneur. Her father is of Italian descent; and her mother, who is from West Virginia, is of half Italian and half French, English, German, and Scottish ancestry. Gaga was able to sing and play the piano from a young age. She attended the Convent of the Sacred Heart from age 11 where was bullied for her appearance (she was small and plumper than other girls with large front teeth) and eccentric habits.
By the age of 14, Gaga was performing at open mike nights in clubs and bars. By age 17, she had gained early admission to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. In addition to sharpening her songwriting skills, she composed essays and analytical papers on art, religion, social issues and politics. At the age of 19 Gaga withdrew from her studies and moved out of her parents' home in order to pursue a musical career. During this time she started a band which began to gain local attention.
After a brief partnership with talent scout Rob Fusari, which resulted in the creation of her stage name, Gaga was signed to Def Jam Records in 2006; however she was dropped from the label after just three months. Devastated, Gaga returned home, and became increasingly experimental: fascinating herself with emerging neo-burlesque shows, go-go dancing at bars dressed in little more than a bikini in addition to experimenting with drugs.
Gaga met performance artist Lady Starlight during this time; after a performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Having served as an apprentice songwriter under an internship at Famous Music Publishing, which was later acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga subsequently struck a music publishing deal with Sony/ATV. As a result, she was hired to write songs for Britney Spears and labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player."
In 2008 Gaga released her first album 'The Fame' to lukewarm radio play; Gaga toured around Europe and in gay clubs in the US to promote the album - however it was not until her first hit 'Just Dance' came to mainstream attention in 2009 that Gaga exploded onto the music scene.
Since then Gaga has gained numerous awards and nominations for a string of hits; her first album spawned several more smash hits 'Paparazzi', 'Loveame' and 'Poker Face'); while touring the album Gaga wrote 'The Fame Monster', an EP examining the darker side to her new-found fame. The Fame Monster was released in 2009 and won multiple awards, spawning her most iconic single 'Bad Romance' as well as 'Telephone' and 'Alejandro'. During this time Gaga came under increased public and critical scrutiny for her eccentric and often bizarre style choices. Gaga embarked on her second tour, The Monster Ball; upon finishing in May 2011, the critically acclaimed and commercially accomplished tour ran for over one and a half years and grossed $227.4 million, making it one of the highest-grossing concert tours of all time and the highest-grossing for a debut headlining artist. Concerts performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City were filmed for an HBO television special. The special accrued one of its five Emmy Award nominations and has since been released on DVD and Blu-ray.
In 2011 Gaga released her second full-length album 'Born this Way'; the album was received vastly more critically than her previous two for touching on themes of politics, sexuality, and religion. Despite this, the album's songs were praised critically, and Born This Way sold 1.108 million copies in its first week in the US, debuting atop the Billboard 200, and topping the charts in more than 20 other countries. In addition to exceeding 8 million copies in worldwide sales, Born This Way received 3 Grammy Award nominations, including her third consecutive for Album of the Year. In March 2012, Gaga was ranked fourth on Billboard's list of top moneymakers of 2011, grossing $25,353,039 dollars, which included sales from Born This Way and her Monster Ball Tour.
At the end of April 2012, Gaga's Born This Way kicked off in Korea - the tour would last 2 years and take the singer to every continent of the globe. However in February 2012 the tour was abruptly canceled; Gaga had a labral tear in her right hip which she had been nursing secretly for several weeks in the hopes that she would be able to continue the tour. After a performance in Toronto left her unable to walk and in considerable pain, she was taken to hospital for surgery and the tour was canceled. Through to Jan. 17, the tour had grossed $168.2 million and moved 1.6 million tickets to 85 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore, with the Asian, European, and South American legs already completed in 2012. The North American leg, which was to wrap the tour and was almost completely sold out, would have likely put the tour at more than $200 million gross, easily in the top 20 tours of all time and probably in the top 15, according to Billboard. As it stands, Gaga finished sixth among all touring artists in 2012, with a gross of $125 million and attendance of more than 1.1 million, according to Boxscore.
Gaga wrote her third album, ARTPOP, released in 2013. Gaga made her acting debut in Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills (2013), the sequel to his 2010 film Machete, and also appeared in Rodriguez's sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014). In 2018, she starred with Bradley Cooper, who also directed, in A Star Is Born (2018). Gaga received her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for the role.fave album: Born This Way- Music Artist

Katy Perry was born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson on October 25, 1984 in Santa Barbara, California to Mary Christine Hudson (née Perry) & Maurice Keith Hudson. She has a big sister named Angela & a little brother named David, and has English, Portuguese, German, Irish, and Scottish ancestry. Her mother's half-brother was director Frank Perry.
Raised in a deeply religious family, Perry's first experience of performing was singing in church. A passion for music grew and at the age of 15, Perry began visiting Nashville, gaining experience of song writing and recording demos.
She signed to a Christian record label, Red Hill, and recorded an album, under her birth name of Katy Hudson. The album was not a success. At age 17 she moved to Los Angeles and collaborated with producer Glen Ballard, but was not able to secure a lasting record deal. Perry did sign to Columbia Records in 2004, but again this did not prove a success, and she was dropped.
An executive at Columbia recommended Perry to the chairman of Virgin Records, Jason Flom, which resulted in her signing for Capitol Music Group. She recorded her second album, "One of the Boys" and in the Spring of 2008 released the lead single, the controversial "I Kissed a Girl". The song proved a smash, hitting the number one slot in several countries. Other hit singles followed and the album was a commercial success.
Perry was now established as a pop superstar and cemented her position with the release of her next album "Teenage Dreams", which spawned more huge hits including "California Gurls" and "Firework". Many awards and music industry records followed. In 2012 Perry made the move into movies, releasing the documentary feature film Part of Me (2012).
Katy has started her own record label called "Metamorphosis Music" and has signed her very first artist Ferras, who was signed to Capitol Records back in 2007 with Katy Perry. He had released an EP the same day that the record label news was released to the public. There is also a duet with Katy on his new EP; they are expected to be on tour together in North America June 22 in Raleigh, North Carolina-October 11 in Houston, Texas.fave album: Teenage Dream- Music Artist

Pink was born Alecia Beth Moore in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, and was later raised in Philadelphia. Her parents, Judith Moore (née Kugel), a nurse, and Jim Moore, a Vietnam veteran, divorced when she was very young. Her mother is from an Ashkenazi Jewish family, while her father has Irish, German, and English ancestry. As a child, all Pink wanted was to become a singer, and she was driven by the music of Madonna, Mary J. Blige, 4 Non Blondes, Janis Joplin, Billy Joel and Whitney Houston. She was a very unique teenager, and went through phases as a skateboarder, hip-hopper and gymnast.
Pink spent several years as part of the club scene in Philadelphia, singing guest spots and performing for talent shows. At the age of 13, she was asked by a local DJ to sing back-up for his rap group, Schools of Thought. A short time later, she was discovered by a record executive and joined a female R&B group, Choice. When that didn't work out, she signed with LaFace Records and began her solo career. In spring 2000, she released her debut, "Can't Take Me Home". She co-wrote many songs and watched it go multi-platinum by the year's end. Her debut included the Top 10 hit, "There You Go", which was certified a gold single.
Pink is now considered an icon in the world of pop music. For example, in 2019 she won the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, becoming the first non-British artist to have won the award since the Brit Awards began in 1977 (originally known as the BPI Awards). This was especially impressive as she was chosen ahead of the likes of Phil Collins, a British musician who has sold more records and had a longer career but never won the award.fave album: M!ssundaztood- Music Artist

Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981 in McComb, Mississippi & raised in Kentwood, Louisiana. As a child, Britney attended dance classes, and she was great at gymnastics, winning many competitions and the like. But, most of all, Britney loved to sing. At age 8, Britney tried out for The All New Mickey Mouse Club (1989), but was turned down due to her young age. This directed her to an off-Broadway show, "Ruthless", for a 2-year run as the title character. At age 11, she again tried for The All New Mickey Mouse Club (1989) and, this time, made it as a mouseketeer alongside many stars of today (Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez of *NSYNC and Ryan Gosling). Her big break, however, came when she was signed as a Jive Recording Artist in the late 90s. With the release of her debut album, "...Baby One More Time" in early 1999, Britney became an international success, selling 13 million copies of "Baby" and 9 million (as of July 2001) of her sophomore album, "Oops!...I Did It Again", released in May of 2000.fave album: Oops!...I Did It Again- Actress
