Best
I had a hard time deciding what was the best episode. This or A Scandal in Belgravia. I decided to go with the Reichenbach Fall because everything that's great about Sherlock as a show is pushed to the max in this episode. Everything feels at stake in the plot from the moment it begins to the moment it ends. We get some great and poignant character interactions, Moriarty being the diabolical antagonist that he always is, and an always compelling mystery. It's just a masterpiece of television. - DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock must confiscate something of importance from a mysterious woman named Irene Adler.10/10
Its plot is a bit tough to follow at times, but what really sells this episode is the compelling, tragic and rather unusual love story between Sherlock and Irene Adler. - DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanRupert GravesWar vet Dr. John Watson returns to London in need of a place to stay. He meets Sherlock Holmes, a consulting detective, and the two soon find themselves digging into a string of serial "suicides."10/10
Usually the pilot episode of any show isn't going to be its strongest, but in Sherlock's case, its the perfect way to start out. It introduces its characters in a solid way and provides us with a complex and compelling mystery that the Sherlock Holmes franchise is known for. Most television pilots have the excuse of not being that great because the show itself is struggling to find its footing but Sherlock knows exactly what it is and it takes full advantage of it. - DirectorNick HurranStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock goes up against the powerful and seemingly unassailable Culverton Smith - a man with a very dark secret indeed.10/10
The most compelling and intense episode of Season 4, this episode introduces a diabolical new villain, really delves into Sherlock's relapse into drug addiction and John's personal tragedies, and topping it all off with one of the best plot twists in the show's history. - DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock and John investigate the ghosts of a young man who has been seeing monstrous hounds out in the woods where his father died.9/10
An interesting and unique episode that's its most psychological, creepy, and atmospheric. But it never strays too far away from the show's traditional formula. - DirectorEuros LynStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsMysterious symbols and murders are showing up all over London, leading Sherlock and John to a secret Chinese crime syndicate called Black Lotus.9/10
A common criticism of this episode is that its inferior to its predecessor. True, but its still a compelling mystery that will keep viewers hooked on the series for years to come. - DirectorJeremy LoveringStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsMycroft calls Sherlock back to London to investigate an underground terrorist organization.9/10
Sherlock returns in the most wonderful way as we also continue to get a great mystery, some great character interactions, and even a few hilarious moments. - DirectorNick HurranStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock goes up against Charles Augustus Magnussen, media tycoon and a notorious blackmailer.9/10
A very compelling episode that brings shocking secrets to light. Only real criticism as that Magnussen, while a diabolical and interesting villain, can't really fill the hole that Moriarty left. - DirectorRachel TalalayStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock takes on the case of finding out who is going around and smashing six unique head statues of late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.8.5/10
A flawed but highly entertaining episode with a solid mystery, plenty of suspense, more history about Mary's life as an assassin, and one of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire series. - DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson find themselves in 1890s London in this Christmas special.8.5/10
A bit convoluted, but still a solid murder mystery and psychological thriller in its own right. It's not up there with one of the greats, but it's still a very solid special with plenty of things that makes the show great. - DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanRupert GravesMycroft needs Sherlock's help, but a remorseless criminal mastermind puts Sherlock on a distracting crime-solving spree via a series of hostage human bombs through which he speaks.8/10
A very solid and suspenseful episode even if it can be a bit uneven at times. - DirectorColm McCarthyStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanUna StubbsSherlock tries to give the perfect best man speech at John's wedding when he suddenly realizes a murder is about to take place.8/10
While by no means a bad episode, it was one of the least compelling out of all of them. On the bright side, it did provide some of the funniest moments of the entire series. It's just too bad, the mystery wasn't all that great. - DirectorBenjamin CaronStarsBenedict CumberbatchMartin FreemanMark GatissA dark secret in the Holmes family rears its head with a vengeance, putting Sherlock and friends through a series of sick, manipulative psychological and potentially fatal games.4/10
A rather disappointing finale to an otherwise great show and the only episode of this series I can safely say that I dislike. While the episode certainly has its moments of greatness and Eurus proves herself as an intimidating villain, the episode as a whole is very bloated and relies mostly on confusing plot twists and absolute nonsense. If this really is the final episode, it's a pretty disappointing send-off.
