- StarsErryn ArkinOlivia StambouliahSteve LiebmannCrime investigation Australia takes you deep into the Most horrific crimes Australia has ever seen. This show is good, especially for non Australians such as myself. Its a whole series of cases youve never heard of. A few of them were big enough for the news to make it across the seas, like milat the backpack killer. But the majority of the episodes are dedicated to crimes that shocked Australia, but not the whole world. Though it has a couple downsides, reliance on actors portraying the crimes for one, the last few minutes of the show are just the cops patting themselves on the back is another, the rest of the show is interviews with people involved in the crimes and archival footage. Its a whole new world of true crime stories for those of us not in Australia.
- StarsBen TaylorOrlando FigesDavid CarpenterDocumentary series with each episode focusing on a solitary historical figure who, for various reasons, including despotism, canibalism, genocide, and too many atrocities to imagine, are considered some of histories most vile and appalling figures. This is a great series about the most despicable people to ever live. It hits all the majors, ted bundy, john wayne gacy, aileen wournos, countess bathory, to name a few. Purely documentary, no b.s actors playing the parts. Just the facts. Though you may have read all about the criminals in each case, it still is worth a watch for the archive footage.
- StarsFred NapoliGuy WaltersBeate KlarsfeldWitnesses and historians retell the events leading up to the capture and or death of some of World War Two's most heinous Nazi fugitives.Very popular, and for good reason. Everyone loves a good nazi take down story, and this show covers the best of the best. Revenge against the most successful and horrific criminal organization in history is worth a watch.
- StarsMichael McGloneJohn LurieSelwyn Raaban in depth look with interviews with former associates, law enforcement officials and others as well as reenactments of their criminal activities to show how each real life mobster made an impact on society individually and as a whole. This is a great series about some rough people. The mob, whichever particular version youre looking at, is always intersting and terrible. The depravity people steep to for money and power, it shouldnt shock me any more but it still does. My particular favourite is an episode about danny greene, the irish man who managed to piss off every mobster by not succumbing to their bullets and bombs.
- StarsBill KurtisDennis HaysbertJohnnie L. Cochran Jr.Bill Kurtis hosts this documentary series that profiles criminal cases involving high profile murders, serial killers, and organized crime. Each episode culminating with the justice dispensed by the American legal system in each case. This is a classic. Used to be shown almost constantly on a&e before they went reality t.v. detailing cases from the unknown to the well known, this show covered everything the dark side of america had to offer. Im surprised its not in the works for a revamp seeing as its been off air for so long. Id think it would be a hit.
- StarsBill KurtisDave ReichertKathy MillsCold Case Files shows how timing, persistence and high-tech police work combine to catch people who have slipped through the cracks for decades.Incredibly interesting and sometimes satisfying, this show introduced us to cases from long ago that, sometimes, using new technology could now be solved. Though i always found it dissapointing when there was no justice served, cases left unsolved and continue to be unsolved are a damn shame, but when you find your culprit 20 years later and the person is all ready dead, what a let down.
- StarsJim ClementeLaura RichardsJames R. FitzgeraldAt times the only barrier between the jungle and civilization are the criminal profilers who descend into the deranged psyches of our worst villains to keep us safe. In Killer Profile, three highly trained and much decorated practitioners lead us through the troubled minds and disturbing deeds of some of America's most vicious serial killers.Solid show, documentary style about murderers. Tells the tale of horrific crimes with some acting and interviews. This is a good one because the cases arent really well known.
- StarsAlisdair SimpsonGreg StebnerRolf von SydowAs shown on TV, Nazi Collaborators explores the fascinating and often shocking tales of how individuals from all walks of life: the privileged; the political elite; ordinary working men; turned against their nations and races to fight alongside the Nazis during World War 2. Many did it for financial gain, others for the promise of elevated status. Some believed that siding with imperialist Germans offered the best chance of survival for their people, whilst others later claim they would be killed if they refused. From the Jewish leader who offered up his people as free labour, to the ex French Prime Minister who actively aided the Nazi hunt for the Resistance. And from the IRA-German plot to usurp control of Northern Ireland to the brutal killing squads of Lithuania, this ground-breaking series explores the complex motivations behind the controversial paths these collaborators chose. Uncovering incredible personal stories, this Special Edition Box Set features all 13 episodes across 4 DVD discs.Helping out the nazis is a bad deal, now, when nazis are thought of as fat old guys and disenfranchised youth, it is a crime, back during the war though it was an instant death sentence. The people in these episodes for the most part got those deaths thankfully, but organizations, such as the i.r.a, pretty much got off scott free. Not much to be done about it at this point though, other than spreading the word. Which this show does perfectly. Definitely worth a watch, you might be surprised who helped out those dicks.
- CreatorPaul DowlingStarsPeter ThomasTom BevelSkip PalenikA series featuring detailed accounts on how notable crimes and diseases were solved through forensic science.I know this one as forensic files, and thats just what it is. The show details how famous crimes were uncovered and prosecuted using forensic evidence. Very very interesting stuff.
- StarsRobert PowellGet ready to witness the 20th Century's most damaging and outrageous assassination attempts, first-hand. From the assassination of John F Kennedy to the gunning down of Mahatma Gandhi, the tragic shooting of John Lennon to the brutal bombing of one of Hitler's henchmen, the BBC series Infamous Assassinations brings you as close to the killers as the cameramen themselves - which sometimes means just a few feet. Using rare archive footage and reconstructions, each episode of this BBC documentary series focuses on a different story, from attacks on royalty, politicians and guerrilla leaders to media personalities who all, for one reason or another, stepped in the way of an assassin determined to bring their life to an end. Many of their motives have remained shrouded in mystery. Until now... Infamous Assassinations is a series of educational documentaries from the BBC about famous events throughout history. From the most well known to not so well known, this series encompasses the entiretly of the assassination in question, from the perpetrators history to the ultimate ending. Jfk, ghandi, anwar sedat, trotsky, the whos who of political killings. Excellent stuff.
- StarsDon PeoplesEmerson St. JohnMichael ChapmanThree crime cases are examined in each episodes, that share a common theme such as motive, means, or type of victims.Another great show about the most shocking cases known to history. Theres really not much else to say about it.
- StarsDion GrahamNathan SchillingJason WhiteThe series follows detectives during the hours immediately following a homicide.I was a little hesitant to add this one to my list, thinking that it falls into the reality tv genre like cops. But unlike cops, this show only focuses on two cases instead of as many calls as they can fit into 40 mintutes. From the discovery of the crime to the either arrest or brick wall finish, this show is very entertaining and heartbreaking at the same time.
- StarsDavid WilsonKathryn MincerJack FarrarDocumentary series in which criminologist David Wilson examines the cases of seven notorious murderers and asks what drove them to kill. This show is definitely a lot newer than some of the other shows on this list. Dealing with cases that happened this century, from serial killera to single murderers this show gives a great insight into the cases that made headlines in the 2000s.
- StarsMichael StoneTim HopperNeil DudgeonSeries follows Columbia University's Michael Stone as he searches for the roots of evil in human beings by exploring acts committed by infamous criminals and ordinary people which he rates on his "scale of evil".This one compares different killers and ranks them on this guys most evil list. Each category is as interesting and macabre as the next. But it gets a little annoying having this dude claiming he knows everything about how these psychos think, at least enough to categorize them into neat little bundles. I donno, i think psychopaths are a bit more complicated than he thinks.
- CreatorGuido KnoppStarsDavid RitchieChristian BrücknerTraudl JungePortraits of important people in Nazi-Germany.Easily the best documentary about the evil pricks behind the most evil prick of them all. Each episode is about a different nazi leader, where they come from, what they did and how they ended up. If you like ww2 stuff this show is a must see.
- StarsTara MossIain P.F. McDonaldMark Brandon ReadThe stories behind what made and shaped the most notorious figures in Australian criminal history.Another addition from down under, this show introduces us to some seriously nefarious individuals.
- StarsOla ChristianPhilip RoschMark HillmanRecounting the lives leading up to the gruesome murders of Americas most prolific serial killers, trying to gage what made them want to kill again and again.Another show about the most horrible people to ever live, their crimes, and how they ended up.
- StarsPete DemeoRodd HoustonSasha BardeyReal convicted killers face the camera and describe their crimes in full detail.Very rarely does the public get to hear the story from the criminals point of view, this show accomplishes that nicely. In prison interviews with killers, some of them frank and open, some of them tight lipped and some of them horrific liers, either way it makes for interesting tv.
- StarsRobert PowellKenneth BianchiAngelo Buono Jr.At last, for the first time here is a major new series of the most extraordinary stories behind the greatest crimes and trials of this century. True stories carefully researched and reconstructed with actual archive footage. Cases which have become almost legendary in the annals of crime and detection.I think what i like best about this show is the amount of cases and the variety of crimes. Focusing on the trials it gives you incredible insight into the way infamous people tried to fight for their lives and failed.
- StarsSusan SarandonClive Stafford SmithConcetta TomeiCapital-murder cases are examined in this documentary series. When i first heard of this one and that is was narrated by susan surandon i figured it would be a big anti death sentence commercial. I was wrong tho, all though a few episodes were about those wrongly convicted, the rest of the episodes featured very guilty people and how they ended up where they are.
