- DirectorMike FlanaganStarsKatie ParkerCourtney BellDave LevineA woman and her sister begin to link a mysterious tunnel to a series of disappearances, including that of her own husband.Probably one of the best horror/thrillers I've seen in the last 20 years. It was made by a first-time feature director on a tiny budget of around $70k and it puts most Hollywood/mainstream horror films to shame. All horror fans should see this film.
Great story, well acted and incredible direction/editing makes this a modern day horror/thriller masterpiece. - DirectorMike CahillStarsBrit MarlingWilliam MapotherMatthew-Lee ErlbachOn the night of the discovery of a duplicate Earth in the Solar system, an ambitious young student and an accomplished composer cross paths in a tragic accident.A very moving story of a two people and a tragic event that causes their lives to intersect. On the night they meet, another earth appears in the sky and the story begins.
Very moving, well acted. Everyone should see this film - DirectorLars von TrierStarsKirsten DunstCharlotte GainsbourgKiefer SutherlandTwo sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth. This sneaked through Aussie cinemas with barely a mention which is a sad endictment of the state of our "multiplex" attitude.
Lars Von Trier's best film tells the story of two sisters, one with severe depression and the other struggling to come to terms with both her sister's plight and the emergence of a planet "Melancholia" that may or may not be on a collision course for earth.
The opening 10 minutes are some of the most incredible scenes commited to film. If you want to see the equivilent of a modern Picasso painting on film you will want to see this film. The story is wonderfully depressing and at the same time, there is a warmth. - DirectorJohn Patrick ShanleyStarsMeryl StreepPhilip Seymour HoffmanAmy AdamsA Catholic school principal questions a priest's ambiguous relationship with a troubled young student.Nobody I have spoken to has been this masterpiece.. which is amazing when the film has names like Meryl Streep and Phillip Seymour Hoffman behind it !!
Just a plain great story here, I won't spoil it, just see it. - DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsLubna AzabalMélissa Désormeaux-PoulinMaxim GaudetteTwins journey to the Middle East to discover their family history and fulfill their mother's last wishes. This film came out of nowhere and took me plain off my feet. A story of a young woman discovering the story of her mother who struggled to survive in a coutry torn apart by civil war.
An incredible story is told here; and the revelations towards the end of the film will affect you well after the film. This one asks the big questions. - DirectorStevan MenaStarsMichael BiehnAlexandra DaddarioBrett RickabyThe horrific account of 6 year old Martin Bristol, abducted from his backyard swing and forced to witness the brutal crimes of a deranged madman. This film goes to show that there are directors out there that still know how to make great horror.
The story involves the abduction of a young boy (who has a condition whereby he is not capable of feeling pain) who is made to watch a psychotic killer.
A far superior film to most horror out there. - DirectorJeff NicholsStarsMichael ShannonJessica ChastainShea WhighamPlagued by a series of apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father questions whether to shelter his family from a coming storm, or from himself.Wow, just plain wow. Michael Shannon plays a man who comes from a family with a history of mental ilness. He starts to begin to see storms that nobody else seems to be able to see and goes about preparing for what he thinks will be a monumental storm that could change things forever.
His friends and family set out to save him, if indeed he can be saved.
Michael Shannon is THE MAN and this is his besdt performance yet. - DirectorNicholas TomnayStarsDavid Hyde PierceClayne CrawfordNathaniel ParkerAn on-the-run convict looking for temporary cover finds it at the house of a very colorful character.A truly twisted little thriller, deserves to be seen.
David Clyde Pearce is right out of his usual role here. It's a great little thriller with unsual twists you likely won't see coming. - DirectorNacho VigalondoStarsKarra ElejaldeCandela FernándezBárbara GoenagaA man accidentally gets into a time machine and travels back in time nearly an hour. Finding himself will be the first of a series of disasters of unforeseeable consequences.A great thriller in which an ordinary man is tossed into an extraordinary situation. If Hitchcock was alive today this is the film he'd be making.
A great cast and a "time travel" story so twisted it's like nothing you've seen. Completely different and very well acted. - DirectorPascal LaugierStarsMorjana AlaouiMylène JampanoïCatherine BéginA young woman's quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.A film that is essential viewing for horror fans. Takes the traditional horror film and turns it inside out. There are more twists in the first ten minutes of this film than most films have in their entire story.
A story of a young woman who was abducted as a child and managed to escape her captors. Eight years later, she believes she has found them and sets out a plan of revenge.
Warning to all - the last thirty minutes are excrutiatingly difficult to watch, go into this one carefully as it does not pull any punches.
