1993 Films From Best To Worstby Happy_Evil_Dude | created - 13 Aug 2012 | updated - 30 Aug 2012 | Public
In my own opinion of course, and featuring all films released in 1993 I've currently seen. As such, this is an ever-evolving list, but as it currently stands, I consider the first two entries to be excellent, the third just a notch below, numbers 4 to 9 to be really good, 10 fine, 11 to 13 less and less entertaining and the last entry quite blah.
Check out my other lists if interested (full selection accessible on the right):

1. Jurassic Park (1993)
PG-13 | 127 min | Adventure, Sci-Fi, Thriller
During a preview tour, a theme park suffers a major power breakdown that allows its cloned dinosaur exhibits to run amok.
Votes: 695,059 | Gross: $402.45M
Nearly ten years later, Spielberg's masterpiece is still, without a doubt, the best dinosaur film there is. By far. The movie is a timeless marvel of adventure and excitement, with memorable visuals and a rousing score that can be watched again and again and again.
2. Demolition Man (1993)
R | 115 min | Action, Crime, Sci-Fi
A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society.
Votes: 134,932 | Gross: $58.06M
One of Sylvester Stallone's best films (his best?), Demolition Man is a brilliant, underrated, hilarious, badass, fun sci-fi romp. One of the great dystopia films out there.
3. Striking Distance (1993)
R | 102 min | Action, Crime, Mystery
Coming from a police family, Tom Hardy ends up fighting his uncle after the murder of his father. Tom believes the killer is another cop, and goes on the record with his allegations. Demoted then to river duty, the killer taunts Tom.
Votes: 35,756 | Gross: $23.80M
Highly underrated murder mystery that just has a great feel to it all. Plus it features one of the greatest car scenes in film history.
4. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
PG | 76 min | Animation, Family, Fantasy
Jack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home cause confusion.
Votes: 246,841 | Gross: $75.08M
Contrarily to popular belief, NOT directed by Tim Burton, Henry Selick's The Nightmare Before Christmas is an enduring classic. The stop-motion visuals are memorable and the songs are fun.
5. Benny & Joon (1993)
PG | 98 min | Comedy, Drama, Romance
A mentally ill young woman finds her love in an eccentric man who models himself after Buster Keaton.
Votes: 48,981 | Gross: $23.20M
A nice small quirky romantic drama with great actors.
6. Heaven & Earth (1993)
R | 140 min | Action, Biography, Drama
During the Vietnam War, a Vietnamese woman struggles with life hustling on the streets, where she comes face to face with those involved in the conflict around her.
Votes: 11,523 | Gross: $5.86M
Based on a true story, this is less of a war movie than the previous two films in Oliver Stone's Vietnam trilogy, instead more of a "biography" film, it is also possibly the weakest of the three. One of the problems is that though the main character goes through many ordeals and suffers many hardships, you never really feel for her, connect with her. Despite his prominent presence in the posters, Tommy Lee Jones is really more of a secondary character here and only appears about an hour and ten minutes into the movie. Heaven & Earth is still a very well-made film, with some beautiful shots of Vietnam (actually Thailand) and particularly brilliant scenes in America.
7. Cliffhanger (1993)
R | 112 min | Action, Adventure, Thriller
A botched mid-air heist results in suitcases full of cash being searched for by various groups throughout the Rocky Mountains.
Votes: 103,851 | Gross: $84.05M
The film that relaunched Sylvester Stallone's career after a bit of a slump is a really fun action romp, possibly director Renny Harlin's best film. It's a simple well-made flick that doesn't try to be anything else than it is, does it really well, and features one of the most daring stunts shot on film.
8. Loaded Weapon 1 (1993)

Really funny Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker-style Lethal Weapon parody.
9. Nowhere to Run (1993)
R | 94 min | Action, Crime, Drama
Escaped convict Sam Gillen single handedly takes on ruthless developers determined to evict Clydie - a widow with two young children. Nobody knows who Sam is.
Votes: 18,713 | Gross: $22.19M
More decent classic action fare from Van Damme, without John Woo's directorial maestria but featuring the writing talents of Joe Eszterhas and Richard Marquand, of Basic Instinct and Return Of The Jedi fame respectively.
10. Hard Target (1993)
R | 97 min | Action, Thriller

Votes: 37,827 | Gross: $32.59M
John Woo's first, underrated American film. It's classic action fare, with Van Damme in full form, a nice New Orleans setting and a fun score by Graeme Revell.
11. Sniper (1993)

A US Marine sniper is partnered with a SWAT member to take out rebel leaders in the jungles of Panama.

OK entertainment. Not quite sure how it spawned three sequels though.

Very strange film and not just because it seems to end in the middle.
13. Yat do king sing (1993)

Don't remember this one too much, apart that it was decent and quite violent.
