- CreatorLouis C.K.StarsLouis C.K.Hadley DelanyUrsula ParkerThe life of Louie C.K., a divorced comedian living in New York with two kids.No complicated plot lines, twists or action. Just a single 50 years old stand-up comedian and father, called Louis C.K, living in NYC and trying to get on with his completely ordinary life. Pure art.
It's hard to explain why it's at the top. I'll put it this way: en episode is 20 minutes, but is over after what feels like 10 minutes. You'll never get bored. - CreatorDavid SimonStarsDominic WestLance ReddickSonja SohnThe Baltimore drug scene, as seen through the eyes of drug dealers and law enforcement.Go on google, and write "best tv show ever". You will quickly understand that the Wire is probably THE best TV-show ever written. Every season has a new "theme", the fourth is my favourite.
Every character is deep and interesting, you'll probably miss them more than the show, once you've seen it. - CreatorAaron KorshStarsGabriel MachtPatrick J. AdamsMeghan MarkleOn the run from a drug deal gone bad, brilliant college dropout Mike Ross finds himself working with Harvey Specter, one of New York City's best lawyers.Plot is not complicated: a young guy, who happens to be a genius, manages to get hired in a big law firm in NYC.
I absolutely love this show. Sure, it has some over-used ideas (e.g. young genius and his mentor - Good Will Hunting), but the show manages to pull something off. I personally hated Boston Legal, but I love Suits, because it's not a legal show (very few scenes are in court). The second season is running, so it's hard to say if it'll keep this quality. Until now, every episode was better than the last one though. - CreatorDavid ChaseStarsJames GandolfiniLorraine BraccoEdie FalcoNew Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano deals with personal and professional issues in his home and business life that affect his mental state, leading him to seek professional psychiatric counseling.David Chase, the Emile Zola of the 21th century. Follows Tony Soprano, a father trying to deal with his "profession" and his family, something which is not too easy when you're a mob boss.
Like in the Wire, every character is a masterpiece. What's good about it is that you don't know if you should hate or love Tony, because, let's admit it, he's a "scumbag". - StarsMax RiemeltRonald ZehrfeldMarie BäumerThe worlds of a young Russo-German cop who investigates within the Berlin Russian mafia milieu and a young Russian woman who is forced into prostitution, intertwine when they meet and fall in love. This German show, which has a lot of similarities to The Wire and The Sopranos, follows a young cop in Berlin, whose sister married the Russian mob's boss. Again, the acting performances are absolutely stunning and you'll easily get carried away.
Totally unknown, due to quality German TV being completely ignored in Germany, it was a financial catastrophe (only 12 Episodes). What you need to understand is that German TV is trash (95% of it are *beep* reality shows). That's why it never reached America, which is a shame. You can possibly import it from Europa, with English subs, and please do it if you have the occasion. - CreatorTom FontanaStarsErnie HudsonJ.K. SimmonsLee TergesenA series chronicling the daily activities of an unusual prison facility and its criminal inhabitants.HBO did it again.
After you've seen Oz, you'll laugh at Prison Break. No classy tricks or sophisticated escape, Oz is about jail, about bloody sheets. Scary, interesting and fascinating. - CreatorKurt SutterStarsCharlie HunnamKatey SagalMark Boone JuniorA biker struggles to balance being a father and being involved in an outlaw motorcycle club.We saw the mafia with The Sopranos, the gangs with The Wire. This time, the show's about MCs, motorcycle clubs. They do exist in reality, the most famous being the Hell's Angels and the Bandidos.
Motorcycles, whisky, guns, tradition, those are the only thing that matter. Great characters, sweet plot lines (season 3 was below average though), right soundtrack.
First 5 episodes are kinda hard to get into, but after that you won't be able to stop. - CreatorJames Manos Jr.StarsMichael C. HallJennifer CarpenterDavid ZayasHe's smart. He's lovable. He's Dexter Morgan, America's favorite serial killer, who spends his days solving crimes and nights committing them.Moral dilemma: can you kill somebody you think is guilty, because you have a need to kill that controls you? Dexter is the policeman, the judge and the executioner. Talk about separation of powers.
- CreatorVince GilliganStarsBryan CranstonAaron PaulAnna GunnA chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer turns to manufacturing and selling methamphetamine with a former student in order to secure his family's future.Same idea as Weeds. Honest person starts to make/sell drugs to make money. While Weeds was more of a comedy, Breaking Bad takes things more seriously. Malcolm's father is unrecognisable, and is not funny at all. It has one weakness in my opinion, it's Jessie. I just think that the character is uninteresting and the actor gets on my nerves, because he's just too dumb, impulsive and weak.
- CreatorMitchell HurwitzStarsJason BatemanMichael CeraPortia de RossiLevel-headed son Michael Bluth takes over family affairs after his father is imprisoned. But the rest of his spoiled, dysfunctional family are making his job unbearable.Really hard to get into it, because it's a completely new approach. It's not realistic, but it's really funny, once you've became familiar with it. So many puns, so many inside jokes, you'll probably need to watch it more than once to grasp the whole genius of it.
- CreatorRobert CochranJoel SurnowStarsKiefer SutherlandMary Lynn RajskubCarlos BernardCounter Terrorism Agent Jack Bauer races against the clock to subvert terrorist plots and save his nation from ultimate disaster.Although I consider 24 to be some sort of pro-bush fearmongering mixed with a clear attempt to justify torture and the death sentence, I have to admit that I enjoyed the show. A LOT.
But what I find funny is that I always OD'ed after 2 seasons, which is probably due to its format of 24 x 42 minutes. Nonetheless, after 6 months of "being clean", I'd get the urge to keep on watching, because the plots are just great, twists are well thought and acting is pretty good (except for this one black anti-terrorist unit director, made a horrible job). - CreatorPaul AbbottJohn WellsStarsEmmy RossumWilliam H. MacyEthan CutkoskyA scrappy, feisty, fiercely loyal Chicago family makes no apologies.Only two seasons, but I wasn't disappointed until now. You'll see boobs, which is a big plus (just kidding... or am I?).
The story focuses on a alcoholic father who lets his 20 years old daughter takes care of the 7 other kids, with very little money. - CreatorRicky GervaisStephen MerchantStarsRicky GervaisMartin FreemanMackenzie CrookThe story of an office that faces closure when the company decides to downsize its branches. A documentary film crew follow staff and the manager David Brent as they continue their daily lives.Aaah, Ricky Gervais, what would I do without you? The Office UK doesn't make you laugh (or maybe it does, but only afterwards). David Brent is not funny like Michael in the Office US, he's just an unsympathetic asshat. The Office US should also be on this list, but they should have stopped it when Steve Carell went away.
- CreatorDoug EllinStarsKevin ConnollyAdrian GrenierKevin DillonFilm star, Vince Chase, navigates the vapid terrain of Los Angeles with a close circle of friends and his trusty agent. How do superstars live? You'll get a pretty good look at it with this show, even though it's probably exaggerated. Feels good to see other stars playing their own role.
- CreatorRicky GervaisStephen MerchantStarsRicky GervaisAshley JensenStephen MerchantAndy Millman is an actor with ambition and a script. Reduced to working as an extra with a useless agent, Andy's attempts to boost his career invariably end in failure and embarrassment.Like Entourage, what I like in this show is that you get to see top paid stars making fun of themselves, while playing themselves! (Orlando Bloom who's sure he's the best-looking man ever, Kate Winslet making dirty jokes, Daniel Radcliff as a young virgin trying to convince every body he already had sex, Ben Stiller as an arrogant prick, etc.).
Well worth a watch - StarsScott GrimesDamian LewisRon LivingstonThe story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and their mission in World War II Europe, from Operation Overlord to V-J Day.Mini-series are not really TV-shows, they're 10 hours long movies. Band of Brothers is kind of like Saving Private Ryan but 5 times longer. It's amazingly good, and not soporific like The Pacific. The rhyme is free.
- StarsChris O'DowdRichard AyoadeKatherine ParkinsonThe comedic misadventures of Roy, Moss and their grifting supervisor Jen, a rag-tag team of IT support workers at a large corporation headed by a hotheaded yuppie.British humour doesn't get any better than that. Some episodes are a bit boring, I'll admit, but some scenes are funny as hell.
- StarsSigourney WeaverDavid AttenboroughNikolay DrozdovA documentary series on the wildlife found on Earth. Each episode covers a different habitat: deserts, mountains, deep oceans, shallow seas, forests, caves, polar regions, fresh water, plains and jungles. Narrated by David Attenborough.Biggest budget for a nature documentary ever. Please watch this in the highest quality you can get your hands on, the slow-mos and nature shots are breathtaking.
- CreatorFrank DarabontStarsAndrew LincolnNorman ReedusMelissa McBrideSheriff Deputy Rick Grimes wakes up from a coma to learn the world is in ruins and must lead a group of survivors to stay alive.Really not sure if it deserves to be here, as some episodes are boring as you can get. But every once in a while, it'll glue you on your seat.
- CreatorDavid E. KelleyStarsDylan McDermottKelli WilliamsLara Flynn BoyleWe follow the exploits and cases of defense attorneys of a Boston law firm. Bobby Donnell is the senior defense attorney and founder of the firm.A real legal show. But a great one. Characters are not as smug and arrogant as in Boston Legal. It's realistic, well played and contains very little "episode plots" (it's not a "one story per episode" show)
- CreatorRyan MurphyStarsDylan WalshJulian McMahonJoely RichardsonTwo plastic surgeons--one a dedicated family man and one an unscrupulous playboy--strive to maintain their business whilst having to work their way through numerous hardships ranging from personal to clients with criminal connections.Again, this show has obvious weaknesses, but overall, I think it still deserves to be here. Each episode has a theme, which is very often illustrated with the patient.
- CreatorGuy A. LepageStarsJean DujardinAlexandra LamyDany SénéchalA french comedy about a couple and their silly antics.A french comedy show. Each episode is about 5 minutes long. Some people hate it, some people love it. Well worth a try, although it's absolutely necessary to speak french.
- StarsPaul 'Bubble' FergusonJaime WinstoneAndy NymanDuring a fictional series of Big Brother, a zombie outbreak occurs, but the house-mates are unaware of the impending doom outside of the Big Brother House.A British zombie show, focusing on what would happen to Big Brother participants in case of a zombie outbreak.
- CreatorCarter BaysCraig ThomasStarsJosh RadnorJason SegelCobie SmuldersA father recounts to his children - through a series of flashbacks - the journey he and his four best friends took leading up to him meeting their mother.I've always had fun watching it. Even though it's not breathtaking or anything, it is still great when you want to have a good laugh.
- CreatorDavid CraneMarta KauffmanStarsJennifer AnistonCourteney CoxLisa KudrowFollows the personal and professional lives of six twenty to thirty year-old friends living in the Manhattan borough of New York City.Cheesy, cliché, slightly retarded? Yeah, maybe. But this show is a great show, the lines are good, each characters is absolutely stunning... The 20th century TV-show.
