2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997–2003)
TV-14 | 44 min | Action, Drama, Fantasy
A young woman is forced to fulfill her destiny of fighting vampires and demons with the help of her friends all the while struggling to live a normal teenage life of heart break and drama.
If you are a woman who grew up in the '90s and are a badass chick, chances are you watched Buffy. Screw you, Twilight - this is how you deal with vampires.
4. Firefly (2002–2003)
TV-14 | 44 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi
Five hundred years in the future, a renegade crew aboard a small spacecraft tries to survive as they travel the unknown parts of the galaxy and evade warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them.
The tv space western at its very finest. Screw you, FOX. And god bless you, Joss Whedon.
5. Spaced (1999–2001)
TV-14 | 25 min | Action, Comedy
Friends Tim and Daisy, 20-something North Londoners with uncertain futures, must pretend to be a couple to live in the only apartment they can afford.
Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. 'Nough said.
6. Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005–2008)
TV-PG | 23 min | Animation, Action, Adventure
In a war-torn world of elemental magic, a young boy reawakens to undertake a dangerous mystic quest to fulfill his destiny as the Avatar, and bring peace to the world.
Yes, it's animated. But don't be fooled - this is not your average Bugs Bunny cartoon. Fun and funny and remarkably touching. The characters are engaging and the storylines are captivating. Please steer away from the live-action motion picture.
7. Doctor Who (2005– )
TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Family
The further adventures of the time travelling alien adventurer known as the Doctor, a Time Lord/Lady who can change appearance and gender, and his/her companions.
Sure, it's spacey-wasey timey-wimey, but it's also witty and crazy and fun and touching. Also the most original, clever concept for a tv show I've ever seen. Sure, time travel is old hat for science fiction. But a main character who's a member of a practically extinct alien race that shapeshifts and switches out his co-star every couple of seasons? Brilliant and groundbreaking (well, obvious props to the original series :]).
8. Top Gear (2002– )
TV-PG | 60 min | Comedy, Talk-Show
The hosts talk about everything car-related. From new cars to how they're fueled, this show has it all.
Even if you're not a gearhead, so much fun to watch - the presenters are hilarious. And, if you are a gearhead, the cars are badass.
9. Game of Thrones (2011– )
TV-MA | 57 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Nine noble families fight for control over the mythical lands of Westeros, while a forgotten race returns after being dormant for thousands of years.
Such a flawlessly crafted epic fantasy/drama.
10. Friends (1994–2004)
TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Romance
Follows the personal and professional lives of six 20 to 30-something-year-old friends living in Manhattan.
Ah, the golden age of primetime comedy.
11. Angel (1999–2004)
TV-14 | 44 min | Action, Drama, Fantasy
The vampire Angel, cursed with a soul, moves to Los Angeles and aids people with supernatural-related problems while questing for his own redemption.
Where Buffy was supposed to be a metaphor for the monsters you have to deal with while going from adolescence to young adulthood, Angel was symbolic of the monsters you have to deal with once you grow up and are in the real world. Much darker than Buffy, but that was most of the fun.
12. The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)
TV-14 | 43 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
A young teen struggles to make a decision between two vampire brothers and their supernatural lives. Soon after she discovers the truth her whole world turns upside down.
Seriously underrated. Suffers mostly from being on the CW and being associated with that Twilight garbage.
13. Misfits (2009–2013)
TV-MA | 60 min | Comedy, Drama, Fantasy
A group of young offenders doing community service get struck by lightning during a storm, and begin to develop superpowers.
What Heroes would look like if Heroes was... GOOD. And sexy. And shot in England. With talented actors and writers and directors. And cursing. :)
14. Psych (2006–2014)
TV-PG | 44 min | Comedy, Crime, Mystery
A novice sleuth is hired by the police after he cons them into thinking he has psychic powers which help solve crimes. With the assistance of his reluctant best friend, the duo take on a series of complicated cases.
17. Dark Angel (2000–2002)
TV-14 | 60 min | Action, Drama, Mystery
A group of genetically-enhanced children escape from a lab project. Years later we meet Max, one of the escapees who now works for a messenger service in the post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest.
1st season only. And maybe the Alec portion of season 2.
18. Frasier (1993–2004)
TV-PG | 22 min | Comedy
Dr. Frasier Crane moves back to his hometown of Seattle, where he lives with his father, and works as a radio psychiatrist.
So much funnier than Cheers (man, I hated that show).
19. Boston Legal (2004–2008)
TV-14 | 44 min | Comedy, Crime, Drama
Boston Legal is a spin-off of the long-running David E. Kelley series The Practice (1997), following the exploits of former Practice character Alan Shore (James Spader) at the legal firm of Crane, Poole, and Schmidt.
20. Spartacus: War of the Damned (2010–2013)
TV-MA | 55 min | Action, Adventure, Biography
Watch the story of history's greatest gladiator unfold with graphic violence and the passions of the women that love them. This is Spartacus.
R.I.P. Andy Whitfield.
