A vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger.
Votes: 258,384 | Gross: $105.26M
This is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE vampire movie. It's beautifully filmed, the acting is phenomenal and the story is heart-wrenchingly poignant. With this movie as my absolute fave it's hard to find other movies in the genre that live up to it, but I keep on searching, and have found some that, in their own way, are just as good as this.
2. Twilight (I) (2008)
PG-13 | 122 min | Drama, Fantasy, Romance
A teenage girl risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire.
Votes: 370,535 | Gross: $191.47M
I had read the book about 6 months prior to wathing this, and thank God for that! I wouldn't have liked the movie otherwise... I freely admit that I like this movie, and the whole Twiligt series of films (emphasis on FILMS because the overall story and books are absolute tripe). The teen angst, lovey dovey story is a bit too much for me though. The main reasons I like this are: 1. the cinematography, I love how the movie is shot, it's eye candy all on its own. 2. The music is amazing.
3. The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)
PG-13 | 130 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Edward leaves Bella after an attack that nearly claimed her life, and in her depression she falls into yet another paranormal relationship - this time with werewolf Jacob Black.
Votes: 234,844 | Gross: $296.62M
After seeing this one my reasons for liking the films changed a bit. Although my feelings are largely the same as in my review of Twilight, I liked the love triangle that developed and hated that Edward came back at the end and Bella chose him instead. I am securely on Team Jacob.
4. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)
PG-13 | 124 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
As a string of mysterious killings grips Seattle, Bella, whose high school graduation is fast approaching, is forced to choose between her love for vampire Edward and her friendship with werewolf Jacob.
Votes: 198,223 | Gross: $300.53M
I felt that the storyline got worse in this one. I got really sick of Bella's indecision really fast and was cheering when she asked Jacob to kiss her towards the end. I also didn't like that they got another actress to play Victoria as I felt the original actress did a better job.
PG-13 | 117 min | Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
The Quileutes close in on expecting parents Edward and Bella, whose unborn child poses a threat to the Wolf Pack and the towns people of Forks.
Votes: 195,440 | Gross: $281.29M
This one left me a bit shell shocked... I didn't particularly like it and felt that the "rowdy-breaking-the-bed-honeymoon-sex" is mostly in there to justify the fact that they just got married. It was akward to watch and I felt like it gives a really negative view of sex to the younger veiwers who watch these films. The way they made Bella waste away was gruesome but very impactful and the birth scene was the most interesting part of the movie: Finally some action and gore!
I had actually asked a co-worker (who had read all the books) prior to seeing this movie what happened. I feel that I no longer care about the plot or storyline but, as is my way, since I've seen one I have to see them all. One important point remains though: Sparkly Vampires!?!?!?!? WTF? "That s**t is not acceptable"
6. Vampires (1998)
R | 108 min | Action, Horror, Thriller
Recovering from an ambush that killed his entire team, a vengeful vampire slayer must retrieve an ancient Catholic relic that, should it be acquired by vampires, will allow them to walk in sunlight.
Votes: 45,996 | Gross: $20.24M
This movie is a bit tacky and a bit B but it still delivers a lot of laughs and isn't too bad, all things considered. I like how the main vampire character is a bit mysterious and aloof. Too much talking from a vampire can ruin the charachter immensely. It's watchable and funny. However I still find James Woods a bit flinch-worthy as the tough, "sexy" vampire hunter...
7. Queen of the Damned (2002)
R | 101 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
The vampire Lestat becomes a rock star whose music wakes up the queen of all vampires.
Votes: 46,892 | Gross: $30.34M
This movie is one I return to again and again, simply because it's based on the works of Anne Rice (who is a fave author of mine). Sadly it's DOA due to the fact that they perverted her wonderful stories up down and sideways. I spent most of the movie screaming at my TV when I saw this the first time. I couldn't believe how much they screwed it up. However when you realize that two books were condensed to one movie you understand why they botched it. If you are a fan of Anne Rice, one tip is to get a hold of the DVD and watch it with the director's commentary. This will at least explain why the characters have been changed, why they look the way they do, all the annoying changes are explained... It's still unforgiveable but at least I was more satisfied after hearing the rather logical reasons for changing so much of the story.
8. Fright Night (2011)
R | 106 min | Comedy, Horror
After a new neighbor moved into the house next door, Charley discovers that he is an ancient vampire and goes in search for the help of Peter Vincent, a famous "vampire killer" to save his neighborhood from the creature.
Votes: 90,379 | Gross: $18.30M
I saw this movie without having watched the original from 1985, so I had no idea what I was in for. When I saw that Collin Farrell was going to play a vampire I was intrigued. However, I didn't really buy him as a vampire, nor did I buy the character.... it was a rather underwhelming film that left me feeling a bit annoyed. This movies saving grace was cool special effects and beautiful cinematography.
9. Vampires: Los Muertos (2002)
R | 93 min | Action, Horror, Thriller
A vampire hunter and a priest fight a band of the walking dead in Mexico.
This sequel is ridiculous! It's boring, predictable and completely ruins the concept of the first film. Two thumbs down.
10. Blade (1998)
R | 120 min | Action, Horror
A half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires.
Votes: 210,039 | Gross: $70.09M
I saw this one years ago the first time. Back then I thought it was great. Now I think it's really pretty bad. It hasn't held up well, and looks cheap from start to finish.
12. Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008 Video)
R | 92 min | Comedy, Horror, Thriller
The orphan and former surfer Chris Emerson and his sister Nicole Emerson move to Luna Bay expecting to initiate a new life without housing expenses with their Aunt Jillian, but she charges ... See full summary »
13. Priest (2011)
PG-13 | 87 min | Action, Fantasy, Horror
A priest disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
Votes: 103,221 | Gross: $29.14M
This movie had me revved up like a twihard at a premiere. I thought it was going to be great! Sadly I was disappointed from start to finish. It was my own fault for not realising that it was based on a manga graphic novel, but I still thought it could have been much better. This movie didn't know if it was supposed to be a western, zombie, futuristic, post-apocalyptic or vampire flick. The mishmash of impressions and styles left me laughing to keep from crying.... I would have to say that this ones only worth watching if you're familiar with the original material.
14. Ultraviolet (2006)
PG-13 | 88 min | Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller
A beautiful hemophage infected with a virus that gives her superhuman powers has to protect a boy in a futuristic world, who is thought to be carrying antigens that would destroy all hemophages.
Votes: 74,059 | Gross: $18.50M
I had high hopes for this one as I am a big fan of Mila Jovovich. Although it's been years since I saw it and also a while since I compiled this list, I remember being really dissapointed.
15. 30 Days of Night (2007)
R | 113 min | Horror, Thriller
After an Alaskan town is plunged into darkness for a month, it is attacked by a bloodthirsty gang of vampires.
Votes: 148,557 | Gross: $39.57M
This one I initially watched beacuse of two factors: 1. I was interested to see how Josh Hartnett would do in a vampire movie. 2. I live in Sweden and we have similar conditions in the north here during the winter. I thought the premise for the film was fun. I myself have also been saying for about a decade that vampires would love living here during the winter, due to how long the nights are for about half the year. I was sorely disappointed when I saw this movie though. The vampires were repulsive and made no sense and the timeframe of the movie just made my head hurt!
*I also have to note that an almost identical swedish vampire movie was released a few years before this one called Frostbiten (Frostbitten in english). That film was also a major let down and proved the point (along with Let the right one in, years later) that Swedes SHOULDN'T make vamp movies!
16. Let the Right One In (2008)
R | 115 min | Drama, Horror, Romance
Oskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl.
Votes: 185,864 | Gross: $2.12M
Worst piece of crap I've ever seen within this genre! And swedish no less...!
17. Underworld (2003)
R | 121 min | Action, Fantasy, Thriller
Selene, a vampire warrior, is entrenched in a conflict between vampires and werewolves, while falling in love with Michael, a human who is sought by werewolves for unknown reasons.
Votes: 228,029 | Gross: $51.97M
This would have to be one of my top 5 fave Vamp films. (This list is in no particular order.) I love the game feel of it and the cinematography is beautiful! There is an original and thought out backstory and mythology to it that I appreciate.
18. Underworld: Evolution (2006)
R | 106 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Picking up directly from the previous film, vampire warrior Selene and the half werewolf Michael hunt for clues to reveal the history of their races and the war between them.
Votes: 171,750 | Gross: $62.32M
This one is kind of superfluous, just more eye candy, but it's still a good one to watch. As beautifully filmed as the first one and the music is just as killer also.
19. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
R | 92 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
An origins story centered on the centuries-old feud between the race of aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans.
Votes: 134,400 | Gross: $45.80M
I was really disappointed when I heard about this one and then found out it was a prequal without most of the main characters from Underworld. I was rather "meh" about Lucian in the first one and though Michael Sheen acts well I was distracted through the entire film by how hot he was (didn't think he could do that raw sexual masculinity thing).
20. Van Helsing (2004)
PG-13 | 131 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
The notorious monster hunter is sent to Transylvania to stop Count Dracula who is using Dr. Frankenstein's research and a werewolf for some sinister purpose.
Votes: 214,876 | Gross: $120.18M
This one is a favourite. I've always liked this one, though in part as a bit of a guilty pleasure, because let's admit it: it's pretty damn hokey here and there. Still, well acted, well filmed and utterly enjoyable.
21. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
R | 108 min | Action, Crime, Horror
Two criminals and their hostages unknowingly seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires, with chaotic results.
Votes: 241,116 | Gross: $25.75M
I caught this for the first time on TV years ago and being a Tarantino fan I of course wanted to see it. As those of you who have seen it know it starts off ordinary enough: two thugs trying to escape the law by fleeing to Mexico. But imagine my surprise when about half way through all hell breaks loose and the film does a vamp-180. I didn't now what to make of it and still don't, really. It's not a good movie, per se, but it has blood, gore and enough cursing to make a sailor blush. The actors are phenomenal and at the end of the day it's Tarantino/Rodriguez at it's best, with Vampires! It's weird but I love it!
22. From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money (1999 Video)
R | 88 min | Crime, Horror, Thriller
More people are turned into vampires as they go around spreading their evil satanic hate.
After loving the first one I wanted to see the sequals. Not worth the time... From what I remember they were really underwhelming.
23. From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter (1999 Video)
R | 94 min | Horror, Thriller, Western
Set 100 years ago in Mexico, this horror/western is the story of the birth of the vampire princess Santanico Pandemonium.
See above comment.
24. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
PG-13 | 86 min | Action, Comedy, Fantasy
A flighty teenage girl learns that she is her generation's destined battler of vampires.
Votes: 34,639 | Gross: $16.62M
I had followed the TV Series for a few seasons before I realized that it was based on a movie. I watched this as soon as I could get my hands on it, but sadly found the show to be the better version... It's still a funny movie but I'm not inclined to revisit this one all that often.
25. Vampires Suck (2010)
PG-13 | 82 min | Comedy
A spoof of vampire-themed movies, where teenager Becca finds herself torn between two boys. As she and her friends wrestle with a number of different dramas, everything comes to a head at their prom.
Votes: 41,535 | Gross: $36.66M
This one I watched purely to see Twilight parodied. It was what I expected.
26. Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995)
PG-13 | 88 min | Comedy, Fantasy, Horror
Mel Brooks' parody of the classic vampire story and its famous film adaptations.
Votes: 33,163 | Gross: $10.69M
This one is hilarious! A wonderful spoof of Bram Stoker's Dracula by Coppola.
27. The Breed (2001)
R | 91 min | Action, Adventure, Horror
In the distant future vampires have come out of the shadows and tried to live among people as a special and peaceful breed. When a series of murders happens, a cop and his vampire colleague... See full summary »
Saw this one ages ago and have no strong recollection of it. Not good enough to leave an impression = two thumbs down.
28. Dracula 2000 (2000)
R | 99 min | Action, Fantasy, Horror
A group of thieves break into a chamber expecting to find paintings, but instead they release the count himself, who travels to New Orleans to find his nemesis' daughter, Mary Van Helsing.
Votes: 28,977 | Gross: $33.02M
This one appeals to my love of New Orleans, and I think that any vamp movie does right in being set there! It's a bit B here and there, but overall it's funny and action filled. Gerard Butler does a damn good job of playing a slightly different kind of Dracula (this was the first film I ever saw him in, and have since become a huge fan of his) but I was initially quite annoyed at the changes made to Drac's history... Nowadays, though, when I revisit this one i just sit back and enjoy :)
29. Dracula (1992)
R | 128 min | Horror
The centuries old vampire Count Dracula comes to England to seduce his barrister Jonathan Harker's fiancée Mina Murray and inflict havoc in the foreign land.
Votes: 158,862 | Gross: $82.52M
This is one of the first Vamp movies I ever saw in my youth and I loved it then. Now I think it's so-so. It's still a classic amongst Dracula interpretations but I can't stop getting annoyed by the horrendous English accents delivered by both Ryder and Reeves. Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins are what save this movie from being really tacky.
30. Dracula II: Ascension (2003 Video)
R | 85 min | Horror
Horror following a group of medical students who come across the body of the world's most notorious vampire, Dracula (Stephen Billington). When a mysterious stranger appears and offers the ... See full summary »
This sequel wasn't really needed. And a pet peeve of mine is when they change actors for a certain character and do nothing to make them at least look similar to the original. *sigh*
31. Nosferatu (1922)
Not Rated | 81 min | Fantasy, Horror
Vampire Count Orlok expresses interest in a new residence and real estate agent Hutter's wife.
I know this is considered the "be all and end all" of vamp flicks, but I have to say that I struggled to get though it! It's quite beautiful but silent movies aren't my thing at all (or older movies in general for that matter) and I doubt I will ever revisit it...
32. Perfect Creature (2006)
R | 90 min | Action, Drama, Fantasy
The vampire myth is given a stylish 1960s treatment, where a human cop partners with a vampire cop to stop a vamp bent on creating a war between the two "separate but equal" races.
This is one of those where I wish I could erase the few images left of it from my brain. Really bad...
33. Dracula (2006 TV Movie)
90 min | Horror

This one I hoped would be good because it was made in the UK. I was sadly quite disappointed... Drac is ugly and repulsive and Lucy is just irritating as crap! Mina I found quite boring and didn't feel that the actress did the charachter justice.
34. Shadow of the Vampire (2000)
R | 92 min | Drama, Horror
Votes: 36,053 | Gross: $8.28M
This one failed on all levels for me. Despite a list of amazing actors I was left feeling like I had lost 92 minutes of my life, and I'd never get them back....
35. Dracula III: Legacy (2005 Video)
R | 86 min | Horror
In the near future, Uffizi and Luke travel to the remote reaches of war torn Romania to rescue Elizabeth and finish the vampire once and for all. Along the way, they encounter TV news journalist and a corps of rebels trying to fight the vampire uprising which plagues their country.
This one just continued the crapiness of what was othewise a rather good original vamp movie.
36. Vampire in Brooklyn (1995)

I saw this one for the first time in the late 90's and since then I have loved it. It had me cracking up and it's really nice to see some racial diversity in this genre. *beep* great take on the Dracula story.
37. Blade II (2002)
R | 117 min | Action, Horror, Sci-Fi
Blade forms an uneasy alliance with the vampire council in order to combat the Reapers, who are feeding on vampires.
Votes: 174,006 | Gross: $82.35M
38. Blade: Trinity (2004)
R | 113 min | Action, Adventure, Horror
Blade, now a wanted man by the FBI, must join forces with the Nightstalkers to face his most challenging enemy yet: Dracula.
Votes: 145,622 | Gross: $52.41M
This is my favorite of the trilogy. The vamp hunters were great and Ryan Reynolds' comic relief paired with both Jessica Beals and Wesley Snipes had me wetting myself by the end! I didn't like the ubervamp backstory or the actor who played him and apart from the comedy in this I find it a bit 'meh'...
39. Let Me In (I) (2010)
R | 116 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery
A bullied young boy befriends a young female vampire who lives in secrecy with her guardian.
Votes: 100,441 | Gross: $12.13M
This US remake of the Swedish original is still a bit slow in my opinion, but SOOOOOO much better than it's predecessor!!
40. Dracula 3000 (2004)
R | 86 min | Horror, Sci-Fi
Count Dracula terrorizes the crew of a spaceship.
From what I remember this one was painful to watch.
41. BloodRayne (2005)
R | 95 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
In the 18th century, a vampire escapes from the freak show she once participated in and teams up with a group of vampire slayers to kill the man who raped her mother.
Votes: 31,656 | Gross: $2.41M
I was looking forward to this one. I always enjoy vamp movies with a female vamp lead, but it was painful to watch... I barely paid attention and can therefore draw the conclusion: two thumbs down.
42. Salem's Lot (2004– )
TV-14 | 181 min | Drama, Horror, Mystery
Writer Ben Mears returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem's Lot and discovers that it is being terrorized by vampires.
This one i quite liked but i wished that the vampires had had more screen time.
43. Frostbitten (2006)
98 min | Horror, Comedy
Vampires terrorize a city in Norrbotten.
Words can't even describe the disappointment...

What can i say? It was weird, the acting was bad and the story worse. And above all it was too pronographic to be tasteful. I watched this one with a friend back in 04 and we were both rather speechless afterwards. I definitely do not recommend this one!
46. Bordello of Blood (1996)
R | 87 min | Comedy, Fantasy, Horror
The Crypt Keeper returns to tell the story of a funeral parlor that moonlights as a vampire bordello.
Votes: 11,468 | Gross: $5.59M
I was this back when it first came out. It scared the crap out of me then (I was easily scared back then) and have never gotten sound to watching it again.
48. Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009)
PG-13 | 109 min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Teenager Darren Shan meets a mysterious man at a freak show who turns out to be a vampire. After a series of events Darren must leave his normal life and go on the road with the Cirque du Freak and become a vampire.
Votes: 38,236 | Gross: $13.84M
This one was cool, but the end left me confused. Until I dutifully checked imdb and found out about it's "based on book" status. That explaned a lot, but it has sadly fallen into the realm of films that are based on a series of books, and the when the first one doesn't bring in the big buck the rest don't get made. Shame, because I would have liked to see where the story was going (and no I don't want to read the books).
49. Underworld Awakening (2012)
R | 88 min | Action, Fantasy, Horror
When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrior Selene leads the battle against humankind.
Votes: 131,503 | Gross: $62.32M
It took me a while to get around to watching this one. I started it back when it first came out but only got about 10 mins into it before tiring... 2 years later I finally saw the whole thing and I was pretty disappointed. Selene turned into a psychotic killer with no regard to human life, very OOC. The story was lackluster as was the execution.
50. Byzantium (2012)
R | 118 min | Drama, Fantasy, Horror
Residents of a coastal town learn, with deathly consequences, the secret shared by the two mysterious women who have sought shelter at a local resort.
Votes: 35,424 | Gross: $0.08M
This one blew me away! It's become one of my absolute favourite vampire movies of the new century. It was haunting and impactful. The acting was all around amazing. I don't usually like when the MO and origins of vampires is changed or over-complicated, but this one sucked me in with it's simplicity and style. In my experience it's very easy to make vampires corny and cringe-worthy, often it's done wrong. This movie is an example of it being done right!
As I said in my review of IWTV, I've had a hard time finding a vamp film that I like as much as that one. Byzantium is it! Partly this is because both films have the the same director. Regardless, this film is now in second place as my all time fave vamp film (followed in third by the Underworld franchise).
