The best UK shows

by kfddog | created - 28 Mar 2012 | updated - 29 Mar 2012 | Public

These are wonderful British shows that are not usually listed by viewers in the States. There are no "campy" comedies( circa. Benny Hill) or Dr.Who type science fiction on this list, just great shows.

This is one of the funniest shows I have seen in a long time. Though it first appears to be geared to a 20 something sci-fi audience, my friends in their 40's love it too.

This show is so fantastic that even though it is one that is typically listed on every "Great British TV List" I still had to put it on the top of mine.

I love this show!! It is so much better than the US version. Though you may need to have the captions on.

Comedy drama that follows the exploits of school staff both inside and out of the classroom.

Stars: Ursula Holden Gill, Gillian Bevan, Lloyd McGuire, Ellen Thomas

This show features Andrew Lincoln before he crossed the pond to star in The Walking Dead. It is a great show but the first 20 or so episodes are the best.

The lives of William (an undertaker) and Mary (a midwife) cross. They become romantically involved, but what happens for the rest of the series is far less predictable.

Stars: Martin Clunes, Julie Graham, Cheryl Campbell, Michael Begley

Another show not to miss if you loved Doc Martin. Martin Clunes is wonderful as William in this show, who could not be more different than his Doc Martin character.

The story of the executive chef at a country house hotel.

Stars: Alan Davies, Darren Boyd, Katherine Parkinson, Stephen Wight

This is more in line with an American 1/2 hour comedy which focuses on the Kitchen staff in an upscale restaurant. The actors are terrific and there is none of that "shot in front of a live audience" canned laughter.

This is set in 1970's England and deals with culture mixing issues of that time period. Unfortunately it is more of a mini series with only 4 episodes.

A fictional account of a royal family living in England's Buckingham Palace.

Stars: Rupert Evans, Sophie Winkleman, Sebastian Armesto, Roy Marsden

This is about a FICTIONAL British royal family. Though not the best British drama around it's a nice filler when you don't want to think to hard.

Stars: Darren Boyd, Jude Wright, Robert Lindsay, Rebekah Staton

This show should not have made it to my list since it is a "campy" comedy, but it is the exception to the rule.
